What is the best part of working at the company?
Pay was competitive.  Good snacks. Subsidized lunch when in the office.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Training was inadequate, I never touched a physical array when I was in training and many features I was later asked to help customers with weren't covered in training or properly documented anywhere. Support lab was shut down and equipment was disposed of and it wasn't replaced the entire time I worked at Pure.  This shows lack of competence by lab administrator.  Knowledge base system was totally undeveloped, many articles in KB were amateurish and no version control was included in KB articles to indicate which fix applied to which version of Purity.  Product documentation was severely lacking and hard to find.  Escalation procedure for support engineers was overly cumbersome and slow.  Generally processes were horribly inefficient.  Customer Issue tracking system was the worst implementation I have ever seen. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Most of the resources and management were in Lehi, and Mountain View and Santa Clara sites were severely neglected.  Support leadership did not take sufficient efforts to remedy issues in the support organization because they were not sufficiently experienced to do their jobs properly or listened to rank and file support engineers.  There was a lot of "Pure Storage is the greatest storage company ever" but I wasn't feeling it. Prior to working at Pure,  I had worked in first class, truly professional technical support organizations so I could not help but think that the Pure customers and Pure support engineers would have had a much better experience if the Pure support organization was run by people with more experience, that had the pulse of the front line workers and moved decisively to rectify serious problems.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I woke up and started my early morning shift in MDT hours, even though I lived in a later time zone.  I would sit though a daily meeting that was mostly not productive.  Then I would check email then join live queue.  No regular time allotted every day for research or call backs, I was supposed to ask manager for permission to log out of phone queue.  I was expected to pull cases for advanced array features that I hadn't been trained on.  Some of those features weren't even documented in the latest Purity technical documentation.  As mentioned previously, the support lab in my region was decommissioned and not replaced, so even if I stayed after hours, I did not have the resources in the lab to replicate the customer configurations.

This company HAD an explosive beginning. Very awesome place to work. Great people, great opportunities for advancement, lots of time to destress and enjoy some breaks in between work (great break rooms with video games, table top games, and even dedicated gaming rooms to use), fully stocked break room with food and drinks, awesome benefits, people who cared about the company were being promoted internally! There WAS a lot of things going for the company.

None of that applies now. You won't have time to take advantage of those break rooms with games and if you do, management will hold that against you. Advancement depends on how you look and identify rather than what you have done or know. Benefits reduce each year, though they did finally start offering 401K match to some degree. There really isn't a benefit that makes Pure stand out from other companies now. The ones that did are gone or are not practiced anymore due to budgetary reasons. You won't have time to breathe between cases/calls/emails/escalations/Sev1s/account team requests/meetings/1on1s/requests from other support teams/ and any other way the company can find to take time away from you and ensure that people are not available so work piles up. Increases in minimum case acceptance constantly fluctuates and just because you take more cases than anyone else, doesn't mean you won't be expected to take even MORE. Good luck keeping your shift that you want. You shouldn't get comfy working any shift. Management will change work hours on you once or twice a year, and they aren't afraid to remove you from your preferred shift. Advancement isn't what you know or what you have done, it's mostly who you are and how you identify.

The job and company has been on a decline for a few years now. Sometimes there is a swing in an upward trend for a few weeks but typically it's just a chore to work there now. You can make some decent money, meet cool people, learn some cool stuff but no one in their right mind would consider the current leadership as competent. Most of them are new to the company and everything they do impacts the emotes negatively, which in turn, impacts the customer. Which is why Pures rating is now in the 70s. When I was hired, it was in the mid 90s. It took less than 2 years for leadership to ruin the reputation that Pure Employees worked diligently to create.

The people you work with directly are wonderful and intelligent people. Trying to work with upper management is a challenge. We are told one thing about how they want to have transparent communication, and be clear and open about the changes they are making. But after years of none of that happening it makes it hard to believe when they tell you that again and again. Then when you voice your concerns about how they are making decisions that are directly impacting the TSEs and want to know what the problem is that they are trying to solve with this change, how they are measuring success and what happens if this change is not a success. We are told that our input is valued and then we get a one on one with a manager that is not our manager to tell us that we need to stop being so negative and that if we continue to be then we will get fired. So when the company did a re-structuring (not a lay off) they just happened to remove all of the senior TSEs that were voicing their concerns. That had these one on ones and were told not to be negative.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Hope you love salesforce. 99% of your job will be updating it. Forget customers and getting work done. Just update sf every hour.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The company has many many many levels of management. Each manager reports up the chain and everything rolls down hill to you. Update your salesforce hourly.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Great culture. Amazing depth of experts to assist in almost every technical area. Everyone wants to help. But, management gets in the way every step of the way.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Update salesforce. Talk to a customer, update salesforce. Find an expert to assist, update salesforce. Call customer back, update salesforce. Get an incoming call from a prospect, update salesforce. Have a meeting, update salesforce. Get 5+ calls from different managers asking why salesforce was not updated.  Update salesforce.

Creativity, Persistence, Ownership, Teamwork and Customer First are the values upon the company was built. A private, start up recently gone public, Pure Storage is in a development stage where they are trying to scale by implementing processes in a trial and error way. Leadership has changed and the people who started the company are leaving as they find bureaucracy, lack of professional mobility and a weak sense of direction taking over the company. Yet, there are still some areas in the company which keep the old orange spirit; the most enjoyable being the ability to be creative and get things done for the benefit of the customer and the company. The best part of the day is making a difference for the customers and the company and that is the most enjoyable part of the job. The hardest part of the job is dealing with an increasingly political place where the values of the company are being replaced by new leadership styles.

Awesome people- never have I worked at a company where I loved every single person I'd have to work with on a daily basis. Everyone here just gets how Pure Storage works and what needs to be done to get to our goal.
Great culture- emphasis on work/life balance, family and health comes first, and frequent happy hours with coworkers to let loose after work or finishing a big project.
Company needs to work on 401(k) matching and job advancement opportunities. HR needs to hire less executive/director positions and more people that actually get work done.

I loved working for Pure Storage before all the growth and expansion took place. It was an atmosphere where everyone believed in the vision and leadership in place, and there was a real organic, genuine sense of accountability from the top-down. However, post-IPO brought about significant challenges that Pure just couldn't and cannot overcome. Management is a huge, HUGE weakness of this company that is short-sighted in its decision making and ultimately is a carousel of turnover. There is so much emphasis on culture, but the office environment has become simply all about hypocrisy nowadays. They try to offset all these short-comings by providing a wide array of employee benefits, but ultimately, people only care about their careers and who is leading them towards a brighter future, and Pure has lost sight of that.

Been with this company for almost 5 years, helped in improving their products. Did not get any promotion although have been an achiever nor received any appreciation.

Management has no vision or a proper road map. My manager is clueless and not able to find me work nor give me a clear vision of what's going on. Product Managers keep changing and at last 6 months there was no Product Manager nor a team to plan.

Everything is in SILO. People who are Managers get promoted like every quarter. I have seen people promoted to SR. Director and when i asked i have been told that it takes 8 years to get promoted. Get a life.

They all of a sudden let me go and remove access to my laptop immediately. Did not even give me a time to take a backup of my personal things which was very unprofessional and rude for being an sincere employee for 5 years of my service with them.

This company lets people go on a whim.  

They say they value their employees, yet they have to bribe employees to give favorable reviews during employee satisfaction surveys.  

There are solid performer who have gone their entire tenure without raises.

All of the people whose backs Pure Storage Support was built upon, have left the company, as well as much of its creative and innovative talents.  (The Titanic has been set adrift, and we all know what comes next.)

The VP thinks everything Engineers and Tech Support Management does could be done by monkeys - and "monkeys" is a direct quote.

The Director of Support is a tyrant who could not give a compliment or a since thanks if is literal life depended on it.

This was one of the worst jobs I've ever had. My direct supervisor lied to me and then manipulated data to ruin my performance metrics. He also didn't like that I wouldn't join the team drinking parties by driving 1.5 hours away from home outside working hours. He resented me because I was a single parent. 

They also said we would only take on average 17-20 tickets a day. I averaged 42. And you HAD TO obey their micro-management rules for only doing 1 upgrade at a time. But when there's only 12 of you, and 37 upgrades, you're kinda screwed and you get bad reviews for helping the customer. 

Bonuses, stocks, and all perks are diminishing and rapidly changing.
