Qiagen is in some ways a typical large company.  It's hard to communicate appropriately across teams, the boat doesn't turn quickly and management seems disconnected.  You definitely get the feeling that you are a replaceable cog in the wheel, and I personally had a hard time taking much pride in my job.  I usually have an easy time with pride in my job, so that is not the issue.  

Now for the bad.  The company culture is to outwardly strive for the best, and talk that talk, while dealing with a very slow and supposedly efficient bureaucracy.  From what I've seen, most employees there are mediocre and the ones whom can last the longest are those whom fly under the radar.  They do just enough not to get fired but aren't really team players.  This point of view is from sales, so I can't really attest very strongly to other departments.

I can say this is one of those companies that tries to sets their sales team up to fail.  A good year is rewarded with highly increased sales targets.  The last two years I was there, only 2 people on my team of over a dozen made their targets at 100% or a little better.  For those whom got over 100%, commission is theoretically uncapped, but the incentive isn't there.  Extra commissions over 100% are generally too small to be a big motivation.  

I personally had a very bad manager as well.  This person would get drunk and chatty with other employees, including those directly under him/her and would let far too much be known about their opinions on everything under the sun.  Very unprofessional.  Also, this manager did not defend their team well, and would either be at one extreme of in your face with demands for the sake of demands, or totally unavailable.  This manager may not reflect on the entirety of the company, but made my experience there much worse.

The most enjoyable part of the job is the customers, and the team-mates directly around you whom are competent.  That's what I focused on to enjoy what I was doing, and I did enjoy it despite all the negative things I've mentioned above.  Some of the products are top notch as well, and so that is always a big help.

The job itself is easy but management still tries to make things difficult. They have very poor communication and look at you stupid when you ask then what is going on when they should have already told all the employees in the room. They have prejudice undertones and choose favorites. If they don't like you, they will find anything to get you to quit or fire you . They don't treat everyone the same especially if you're through a temp agency.  Hired in people in basically commit murder there. They tell your recruiter what they think you're doing wrong instead of actually telling you in the moment so it feels like you're being spied on. It is also a clean room so we had to wear bunny suits which wasn't a problem but when it is 90+ degrees outside and they have only fans running with 20+ people in the same room is gets hot and they also don't do anything about what employees have issues with. They say it's a clean room then why is there bugs and beetles near the products on the assembly line. They never mop the floors just use a sticky roller.  It is far from a clean room. This place was not a good place to work. Pay was great. Easy work , nice employees but most of management is a huge problem except for literally one.

Qiagen represents testing and diagnostics that are market leaders in their respective areas. Their sample and assay technologies provide insight that laboratory and healthcare providers can utilize to improve their services and ultimately provide better patient care.

Working at Qiagen provided outstanding experience into the realm of diagnostics in the government market segment that is challenging and rewarding. Colleague collaborations and team work are priorities that create a strong bond among co-workers that is highly productive. Direct management is experienced, reliable and always willing to assist, providing guidance without micromanaging. 

The most enjoyable aspect of working at Qiagen is the complexity of the government market as well as the experience with the vast layers involved in the various sales cycles.These are also the most difficult components.

Trying to expand but refuse to pay and provide quality benefits to current staff and are always low-balling prospective candidates for open positions.
an example; currently working here for 1.5 years and the health insurance costs have increased three times because of my entrance cycle. Each increase to me as a single adult also comes with decreased coverage.
Job security is great because they struggle to provide an environment that promotes staying longer than two years so they really need the staff who are there to stay on.
Little to no advancement opportunities unless a manager quits. They are looking to expand and "provide new career opportunities" but never illustrate what that means. 
Every employee is a college graduate of some type and we are all smart enough to understand when upper management blatantly lies and avoid questions


You work at a cleanroom environment which means mask are required. I was on assembly, fabricating parts for DNA testing machines. It may sound complicated, learning the work itself was thankfully straight forward due to FDA regulations(That's not a typo, FDA is actually involved in inspecting the quality of your work and they want the company to have clear as day instructions for employees to learn from). 

If you had questions about anything, co-workers would happily assist you on whatever you need. Management was really chill and did the same. In my opinion I'd say one of the hardest parts of the job is handling tiny parts and making sure they're all in there proper place. Overall this place has a good work/life balance and everything is extremely fair.

Qiagen is a good company to work for. Managers are a good group of people that are good to work with. Currently we have days in our weeks that we are home due to lack of work and we are instructed to deduct our hours that we are home from are working hours, which basically impacts our overtime for the week. Although I understand what they are doing I don't feel it is right. I made substantially less this year and will make even less next year. This not only impacts my salary, but also my Social Security, my 401 K The 2% raises do not even cover inflation .
The training they provide for Field Service is weak, The call management program ( Salesforce/Service Lighting ) is cumbersome to use and has many bugs in it. Very hard for field based people to use. My overall ranking for Qiagen is a 3.5 out 5. Would give a 5 if the salary issues were corrected, and the training and call systems were corrected.

This internship revealed the job world to me and allowed for an of exposure to the biochemical tools available researchers and clinical technicians for molecular diagnostics. This position also helped bring the industrial side of chemistry into full light.
 A typical day included lab cleaning, work in manufacturing, following diagnostic sops for product verification and quality assurance, and lab restock. I learned how to work with a variety of chemists, engineers and administration to execute all functions of laboratory testing, sop development and maintain the laboratory environment. Hardest part of the job was working repetitive motion jobs such as pipetting and labeling. The job was very rewarding when operating the diagnostic intrument: Modaplex. Understanding the theory of their real time pcr CE machine was quite fascinating.

-8 hour shifts start at 3:00pm-12:00am (afternoon shift) come into work with a schedule printed out on what orders are most important and break into groups to work on producing kits
-You will learn the processes of how they produce kits (what is acceptable/ not acceptable)
-Night shift management was poor due to newly hired and undereducated management. Pushed blame onto night shift because there were less people and day shift knew they could get away with it
-Hardest part was getting adjusted to the hours and the management 
-Most enjoyable part was the gym and big cafeteria provided to employees

My typical work day consist of being on queue to answer any customer questions, shipping details, to create an credit and re-bill for an incorrect invoice. I would also process orders via telephone and or my assigned folder. I also assist my manager with other special projects to clear back logs and reports. 

Management overall is not good, most communication is by email with very little development opportunities. 

The culture, there is no culture at this company. The team/department morale is actually depressing. 

The hardest part about my job is knowing that going above and beyond there's no reward. Hardly recognized. 

The most enjoyable about my job now is that I am able to work from home.

My interview experience with QIAGEN was highly structured, professional, and intellectually stimulating. Following an initial phone screen, I participated in a two-hour virtual panel with the hiring manager, a HR representative, and two team members. The process focused heavily on technical expertise regarding sample-to-insight solutions and behavioral scenarios.
 
I felt the interview was a fair, in-depth assessment of my skills. I successfully highlighted my experience in molecular diagnostics and demonstrated my ability to handle complex, customer-facing situations. The panel was engaged, and I was able to showcase my troubleshooting skills using the STAR method, specifically when discussing handling unhappy customers and managing tight deadlines.
