Not even sure where to begin....The participants are the only reason that I have stayed so long, but one can only take so much. There is NO, I mean ZERO support from upper management ( Above directors), they expect you to be there for them at every hour no matter if you are working or not. They do not respect your boundaries in terms of your time off, what time of day it is that they may be calling/texting/emailing you. If you are working alone with no other staff, don't expect to be able to actually use your time.

Upper management ( Above Directors) always appears to be such a mess. They are always running around like chickens with their heads cut off, no-one knows anything, but expects you to get things done YESTERDAY, when they just told you this second. I wish I was exaggerating, but unfortunately this is the environment of this agency. These executive staff and upper leadership have been in the same positions for DECADES and are so "comfortable" I don't think they even care anymore. Supervision? What's that? Good luck having any supervision from your boss, you will be lucky is they actually remember you have supervision, and if they stay on the phone with you for more than 5 minutes. 

Having spent years at the agency, I have to say I have been disappointed time and time again, but always gave it another shot.. During the pandemic, the true colors really came out. NO SUPPORT, they didn't even care to check on those of us who were still working in the field. While lower level staff were risking their lives, upper management was sitting at home getting the luxury of "working from home". No assistance or support with staff mental health during the pandemic. Such a shame, they should really be disgusted and embarrassed with how they have responded, or chose not to respond.

While some stuff had the opportunity to work from home, the upper management then decided to ask us to give a breakdown of what we do all day, as if they were doing nothing. Mind you, staff were working all hours of the day and night to support participants.

Salary: What a joke. This agency makes a mockery of your professional educations for the salaries they choose to give. Not sure how many staff can make it with such low salaries that many have to have second jobs to get by or are living paycheck to paycheck. For the amount of work that they expect, they do not pay nearly enough. All while the upper management is sitting pretty making 80k to over 100k. Do you think they came out to "help" us during the pandemic while we were in the field, not a chance. 

Executive leadership only cares about numbers; they could care less about how they treat/support their staff.

**Pros:**  
- The initial management was supportive and welcoming, and the workplace environment had potential to be positive.  
- I was able to use my prior experience to quickly make an impact and improve department processes.  
- There was an opportunity to clean up the documentation of employment for program participants, which helped streamline operations.

**Cons:**  
- The turnover rate for job developers was concerning, with the supervisor attributing it to job advancement, though it seemed to indicate deeper issues with role expectations and job satisfaction.  
- While management appeared supportive at first, I did not receive proper guidance or training to effectively perform my job, which left me to figure things out independently.  
- Once I began working closely with the AED of the Youth Employment Services program, I encountered resistance from upper management, which led to frustration. I was tasked with irrelevant reporting and micromanaged, and on several occasions, I was spoken to in a condescending manner.  
- There seemed to be a lack of understanding on how to maintain strong employer relationships, which is crucial for a job developer role.  
- Management also displayed unprofessional behavior by speaking negatively about staff in front of others, creating a toxic environment.

**Advice to Management:**  
- Proper guidance and structured onboarding for new employees would go a long way in ensuring success in the job developer role.  
- A shift in how feedback is given, ensuring it’s constructive and respectful, would improve morale.  
- Stronger emphasis on relationship-building with employers and team cohesion would help foster a more positive work culture.


Queens Community House initially appeared to be a promising workplace, emphasizing their mission, vision, and position (MVP) as core values. However, my experience revealed that favoritism seems to be the primary factor in determining success and job satisfaction within the organization. There are many people in key positions that have no idea of what their job or responsibilities are. 
The turnover rate is exceptionally high, with multiple employees (sometimes 4-5) departing in a single week. The Human Resources department appears to be understaffed, undertrained, and lacking in professional experience, which contributes to the overall workplace challenges.
There are concerns about resource allocation and fairness. For instance, while a high-level executive reportedly received a substantial salary increase, other Departments struggled with basic supplies like water bottles for staff.
Given these issues, I would not recommend Queens Community House as an employer. For those seeking opportunities in the non-profit sector in Queens, Commonpoint Queens may be a more suitable option, potentially offering better management and working conditions.
This organization should adopt the name “CLICK COMMUNITY HOUSE” 


I have been to multiple sites for Queens Community House within the Youth Services area. It really depends on which site you are sent to because, some sites have a great work culture while other sites are really tight-knit that its hard to get along. Each site has its benefits and cons however, what can really make or break it, is what site you are primarily with. Typically, you start off by preparing your supplies before, you work with the children. I believe I learned to have much more patience and not take things to heart when it comes to children and adults. Management really depends on which site you are with but some sites have amazing management. The hardest part of the job is having patience because, things won't always go well but you need to improvise on the spot. The most enjoyable part of the job is to be doing something you enjoy if you wish to work in childcare.

Queens community house seemed like a great place to work at since they place a high value on their MVP- mission, vision and position. However, their management has shown favoritism is really the main indicator of success and the only way you can be happy here. My department has so much turnover and the manager had so many HR cases but she is still there. Also, a higher executive was able to get a 30,000 raise when my department doesn’t even get enough water bottles for staff for weeks at a time. I guess it is not a priority. Overall, not worth your time, commonpoint queens is a better company to work for with better management. 

As a group leader you typical work day would consume of creating lesson plans, taking attendance, handing out snacks, helping students with homework, teaching 2 to 3 lessons a day. You are also required to attend weekly meetings where you are able to voice your opinions, concerns, and are able to collaborate ideas with staff members. The weekly meetings were made into safe environment to interact and express difference of opinions with co-workers. 

While working in QCH, i learned to manage a large group and how to retain their attention. 

The hardest part of the job was to remain original and not become redundant while creating lesson plans. 

Most enjoyable part of the job was to work with the kids and observe the progress they make academically, and personally.

For the summer that i worked as a camp counselor was a good way to continue building my experience in working with young children. i didn't work there long enough but but the people that i worked with were amazing with young children. I had never had any real experience outside of the few babysitting jobs i had done. i was able gain experience, and work with children off all different race. The hardest part of the job came when the summer ended and we had to say goodbye to the children we had come to know and love. the most enjoyable part was taking the children on field trips and seeing how excited they were to be going on a trip.

A typical day at work usually consisted of moving tables and chairs from room to room and also setting up and arranging rooms for different functions and events. During my time there, i've learned how to use different cleaning equipment as well as how to mix and manage chemicals used to clean floors, walls, mirrors and bathrooms. I also learned how to deal with elderly people on many different levels. Overall the management here is really good and welcoming. Co-workers were great, many different people wit different stories and backgrounds. To me the hardest part of the job was leaving the O.T.C kids, and for me, the most enjoyable part of my job was working with and teaching the kids things and helping people in general.

This company comes off professional for the first few weeks after about a month you will begin to see the lack of support from upper management and poorly trained staff. If your willing to lie, be a yes kind of person to trick youth to get numbers for their metrics for grants. A lot of employees collecting checks and no retention number to show for it, stealing company time, and upper management covering up for anyone who supports their agenda. Sad to say this company if your looking to start a career off. Simply put a in between or place holder job until something else comes along better. 

Queens Community House After-school program offers participants thinking and strategic skills where each of them can compete in a positive environment where they receive guidance from adult mentors and are encouraged to take on proactive leadership roles. Among the many years that I have worked there, I have facilitated activities such as Physical Ed., Arts & Crafts, Computers, Performing Arts etc. I took many leadership roles as a group Leader, Activity Specialist and Assistant Director / Acting Director. I have learned the meaning of teamwork, leadership and most importantly self-management.
