I worked at Raleigh Oaks Behavioral Health and found the patients to be the most rewarding part of the job. Many frontline staff members work extremely hard and genuinely care about providing quality patient care.

Unfortunately, my experience was impacted by ongoing staffing challenges, high turnover, and a lack of support for employees who consistently took on additional responsibilities. I often found myself performing duties well beyond my assigned role, including managing critical operational and compliance-related processes. Despite repeatedly expressing interest in growing within the organization and taking on a full-time leadership-related role that I was already performing, I felt my contributions were overlooked.

Communication between departments and leadership was often inconsistent, and responsibilities were frequently assigned without the necessary resources or staffing support. This created challenges for employees who were trying to maintain compliance, support patients, and keep operations running smoothly.

The patients and many of my coworkers made the experience worthwhile, but leadership should focus on employee retention, internal promotion opportunities, recognizing employee contributions, and providing adequate support for those carrying significant workloads.

My hope is that the organization invests more in the employees who are already dedicated to its success, as this could help improve morale, retention, and overall operations.

I was so exited for this job and starting in a new department that was different from what I was doing previously. However, the upper leadership was atrocious. They wiggled their way into their positions but lack professionalism and leadership knowledge.
I never cried as much as I did while working at this facility. I also have never quit a job in my entire life, but I overall couldn’t bear another minute of this environment.
As a clinician you were responsible for everything in admissions including taking vitals without proper training or knowledge. They’ll micromanage you but don’t even know what a successful work flow would look like because they’re missing half the time. It’s everyone for themselves. I was reprimanded for providing support to my co-workers when I noticed they were drowning in work and preventing me from completing my role, I was told I was “getting in the way of others task”.  Even though I couldn’t start my assessments until my co-worker was done with their role.
I also was told I had to work the shift they changed me to and that they don’t have the hours to suit my school schedule. Meanwhile, two days later there was a position posted with the exact hours I requested.. 
it’s all a popularity contest and if you’re not a “yes man”, they will overall make your life horrible and power trip off of you. I can’t count how many times I asked a question to gain insight and I was told “because I said so” as if I was a child. Very passive aggressive leadership and if I had a supportive director or assistant director that had a brain cell, I would’ve had a completely different eye experience. This overall was VERY disappointing.. please take a position at another hospital, it’s better than here, I promise.

Higher then average pay for the position.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Unless you are admissions or deal with insurance providers. You will not have a budget to work with. Despite the hospital wanting to open two wings they refuse to buy equipment or fixtures for basic living standards due to a lack of budget. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The stress of working around the mentality unwell is compounded by the incompetent management and the frustrating financial limitations impose by corporate.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
At the start of my employment I spent cleaning up the mess left behind by my predecessor. As time went on I spent most of my time looking for something to do because the budget didn't even allow for us to buy light bulbs.

A typical day at work consists of serving the patients, to include acute care of geriatric patients, group therapy, serving meals, taking vital signs, supervised self-administration of medication, talking with patients, one on one patient supervision, and checking on patients throughout the shift.  Management is okay, but sometimes you may feel overwhelmed by lack of leadership.  The work culture is not so great.  The hardest part of the job is extreme burnout, being on your feet for most of your shift, overly challenging work environment, and low morale, and no sense of work-life balance.  It can be a great place to learn the field of behavioral health, but its important to be committed to the mission.

Initially I was excited to work here but after working here for a short amount of time, my excitement decreased drastically. This place has some great and awesome staff that works there and if the building could be full of those people it would be a great place to work, however, it is not and there is a lot of talking down to people of color, unsafe work environments, hostile work environments, very stressful place to be and it breaks down your mental health. The way people treat each other in this building is like nothing I have ever seen or experienced before. People like to say “Team” all the time, but they don’t know the meaning of the word. I would strongly encourage you to think twice before completing a application, don’t let the fake smiles fool you. 

I was one of the hardest workers, worked alone at nights and promised I would get help. The new CEO and new admissions director were not supportive, I took one day off and they told me that I needed to find my own coverage for just one day when I gave weeks in advance and I was the only person to work night shift, I got blamed for things that happened on day shift, not being told about any changes to make sure things were in place to help the team, and she (admissions director) set me up with four direct admits at night alone while telling me there is no help and told me to make sure I get some more admissions. Almost forgot. I got blamed for the power going out in the whole facility one night. 

The Director of Nursing only wants policy followed. The policies are typically vague, and most employees do not have access. They like to hire and fire or "churn and burn" through employees. Actual training is a joke as they don't have anyone to really handle training and education and they can't keep staff. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
The best part about working for the company was working with the new hires.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
No structure, no fairness among employees, and no respect of others

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
This was not good environment. The team started off great but ended up becoming a toxic work environment.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day was stressful from the time you entered the door until the time you left. There were a lot of wrongful acts displayed.

This place is currently messy and unorganized. If you value your work life balance, your license, and respect yourself you would work elsewhere. Management sucks and the only thing they care about is making money. They do not value their employees or respect them. The turn over rate is high and the patients receive poor care. The staff are put in tough predicaments where they work in unsafe conditions. Staff that are not trained are forced to work the floor with the threat of being fired. Do not work here.

The overtime and great staff up front. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Some of the staff that act like supervisors. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Great! So far so good and the people are friendly. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Anything can happen for the most part, because you are dealing with mental illness patients.
