When I first got hired as a PCT, I was excited! I had my interview with the 4th floor manager (4A stroke floor) and as well with two other nurses who worked the floor as well. I was told the place was a great environment to work, I was told the duties I were going to take on while being at work and it seemed so exciting, but God was I in for a COMPLETE disaster!


I was told that as a Patient Care Tech I would only be assigned 11 - 12 patients MAXIMUM at a time. I was there for not even 2 weeks when I was slapped with caring for 36 patients ALONE! The floor manager acts as if it’s our fault that patients complain about not being taken care of properly, well hello, if you have that many parents assigned it’s IMPOSSIBLE for patients to get taken care of correctly.


The nurses on this floor are VERY messy and unprofessional, it’s such a toxic environment to be in. I wouldn’t advise ANYONE to work here. The nurses (and even the floor manager) speaks VERY ill about the patients and their family members. I have witnessed nurses completely ABANDON their patients! Patients will call and beg for help or medication only to be ignored by nurses. I CAN SAY SO MUCH MORE BUT WILL LEAVE IT AT THIS, PLEASE NEVER EVER SEND YOUR LOVED ONES HERE AND STAY AWAY FROM WORKING HERE IF YOU WANT TO KEEP YOUR SANITY! 

This hospital can be festive and seems to carry a certain sense of teamwork and concern, but behind the scenes, day to day evidence of struggle and dismay may dilute that idea. Depending on which department you choose will determine your overall experience working here. It usually falls on great management and supervision. Every job comes with some kind of struggle, but in a hospital you must carry tough skin and understand, in most cases, unpleasant interaction is nothing personal. If i were to recommend anyone working for RRMC, it would be because that person needed a little above average pay, plenty hours, and under-the-belt experience in multiple areas. However, i would never recommend a soul to join the FANS team for its highly toxic environment, and ill-concern for its employers. I give this hospital 2 stars only from my personal experience. There are some departments ive seen to show low proactivity and care that has created a looming environment; especially for patients- who are our reason that we're here to begin with. There's plenty room for improvement here, and i pray to see brighter days.

The worst thing about this job is that my typical day is way too busy. It can be very exhausting. They expect a lot out of you. Some days are very manageable with 8-9 patients, while others will have you pulling your teeth out with 11-16 patients. Management does try to keep up with hiring and tries to give you a schedule you want/can work with. But sometimes you'll just be stuck with a lot of patients because someone called off and nobody is willing to come in. There is a lot of good with the bad, though. Vacation days accrue quickly, they offer part-time employees benefits (which is rare). They do TRY to make it a good work environment, I'll say that. Still, 12+ patients is too many. I feel there should be laws against this sort of thing. I have blisters on my feet that will not go away. That's not normal.
I love what I do it’s just I pray pay rate goes up.

A typical day starts the day before, finding out and preparing for the next day's assignment. Sometimes this would start the day before, sometimes it meant coming in early. It was important to not only have the usual items available, but also preparing for other items needed or situations. Key was to be prepared so surprises were limited. 

Something that helped, was maintaining good relations. Help your coworkers, and they will help you. I was lucky to have such relations. A difficult part was not having enough equipment. However, being able to make a difference in a patient's life and working with some great nurses, sure made it worth it.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Rapides Regional Medical Center is an outstanding place of employment to me. It was other circumstances that caused my departure. I couldn't find a place to live, therefore I felt need to leave. But then I found out that Rapides could've and would've helped if I had spoken up sooner. It's a very friendly and caring environment inside the walls of this hospital. You kinda feel at home, but professionally. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Like on any job, the need for fast performance. Stressful, but also do-able. You just rise up and get it done, and it's behind you.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Friendly, safe, clean, professional 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Somewhat busy, it is a hospital.

Upper management does not seem to care about patient safety and only pushes nurses past their limits every shift. When anyone tries to advocate for themselves or their coworkers, upper management becomes hostile and belittles the employees. Proper training is not provided to care for the populations and nurses will be sent to other specialized units regularly despite not having training, nor supplies, to properly care for said population. Safe, and even the agreed upon/instated ratios are often ignored with the reasoning of “the hospital needs money and will not go on diversion” being used.

I get to eat free twice a day and can swipe badge to pay for things

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
When nurses don’t respond to their patients and getting the backlash of it.  Doing discharges and daily cleans of patient rooms along with cleaning behind staff that doesn’t respect your work

Unfavorable, people who get showed favoritism have less work and your thorough good workers have to pull their weight around

Unpredictable, never get to sit down like techs and nurses

Coworkers! The company appreciate their employees with different gifts and tshirts. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The amount of work is the most stressful part.  It’s a lot of work. You might have to work in both the children and the regular hospital and have to walk back and forth all day long.  The respiratory manager has a rule if you leave you can’t come back.(Even with a two week notice)

The environment is a family environment.  The company is not bad but it’s a lot of work.

I’ve worked at Rapides Regional for years and I loved it. Felt like home. I was learning something new everyday… then Covid hit and everything changed. Now I don’t know if I will even get my hours. I also never get to stay in the unit I’m assigned to, which means my job in there isn’t being done. I am assigned one unit, yet sent to all the other units first. I also get called off a lot more due to the new census update. It honestly is a good place, but you’re not guaranteed your hours and will get called off even though they will tell you they are short staffed. I wouldn’t want to leave if they weren’t so unreliable with my hours. 

This is a big trauma hospital with a lot of things to learn. I like the fact that RTs are needed every area of the hospital. My only issues is with the unmanageable work load , no RT driven protocols , the old meditech system. I understand that it is hard for RTs to sit in a critical care unit when we have work on floors , but it should be mandated that we sit in the unit to run the ventilator. The nurses should not be allowed to adjust vent settings without consulting a RT. I don’t have a issue with the company it self ..just feel like the RT director should advocate more for the staff.
