Rate Insurance

Day to day micromanaging, consisting of 3-4 emails a day calling out sales team for not making enough calls. They claim to have 1000’s of leads for sales, but they run out of people to call frequently. Meetings only discuss agencies numbers and missed goals. If you are not making goals, you will be called out in meetings or emails, and not receive further training practices. The pay is very low for entry levels and Customer Service Reps. Management claims that commissions are available and a bonus for the Account Manager positions, but they are not optional. Account Managers are required to hit sales goals given, and will be punished if they don’t. Managers gossip and disclose personal matters with other employees. The General Manager comes of misogynist, and often slips politically incorrect and sexist jokes. Most colleagues know who is being let go before the employee does due to management disclosure. Managers are unprofessional in the way they talk to employees, and make little praise or discuss professional career paths. There is no growth, but extreme turnover. The company has very little benefits other than health, vision 401k etc. They are not flexible for remote time. They do not approve vacation time during the holidays. The Insurance divisions does not have social benefits. They will make you think the company has a lot of outings and supports a good culture. But unfortunately they do not. They just have pot lucks where you bring your own dish, and sometimes they meet up for an unpaid happy hour. There are no gym benefits, no food or snacks provided, maybe a pizza party for when goals are met, but that is usually provided by the mortgage side.

Learned about world of Insurtech by default.  Enjoyed the flexibility to work remote.  What was not so great is the lack of organization by management.  One example sums it up...'in July of 2022 there were layoffs.  On the Commercial Insurance side, they did not re-assign clients until Feb. of 2023.  No bounce back email for clients that emailed in needing something.  Black hole for 6 months.  Needless to say that trying to keep these clients was very low.  Culture non-existent.  Never met one person face to face, not even a boss!!  The pay was good and people were nice.  Extremely stressful trying to meet a NB number each month, which is backwords thinking anyway.  Found this out way to late as there was no regard for client retention.  Also, on the small commercial operation GRI has, it is a walking MULTI-MILLION E & O CLAIM waiting to happen.  Truly scary!!  There truly should not be a Commercial Department as mgt. isn't versed on how different Commercial vs. Personal works.  No way they are making money chasing a monthly Premium number.   Personal lines/mortgage jobs seem great.  I knew better to take a role in Commercial Insurance for a company made up of Personal Lines Agents and Mortgage Brokers.  Didn't even feel right in training.....

Typical work day is answering phones, fielding customer request and or complaints. Direct managment is very knowledgeable and resourceful. The culture tries to be one of inclusion but is not very diverse. Hardest part of job is staying within ridged work hour schedule , overtime is strictly monitored (to the minute). Employees often work off the clock to finish assignments   Most enjoyable part of job is team interaction with peers.

The fact that you won’t be able to pay any of your bills.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Cliquey, lots of favoritism, and management will turn on you very quickly if you have one bad sales month. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Wondering when I would finally receive the commissions for policies that I closed months ago.

At first, the day to day was great and allowed for personal growth. As interest rates increased, panic among executives became obvious as the only constant was weekly changes to workflows. Managers communicated changes terribly and avoided responsibility for dropping the ball. They never allowed individual contributors in manager or C level meetings, so little to no transparency. They scaled when volume was there but would lay off and resort back to the small family/friends.  

Rate Insurance has been a great place to work and develop my career. The company has grown every year since I've been here and is heavily invested in building a great technology platform that makes all employees' jobs easier. 

The company is 100% remote. Everyone I work with is great and seems to care about what they do and serve customers. 

Enjoying working at Rate Insurance and have seen a lot of positive changes over the past couple of years.

Exec / Leadership team share the vision and goals of the company, are approachable, and very involved.

Very low class people. I can barely tell how Chicago business people for their reputation. I would not take this job unless you are new and have no other prospects. Prepare to be overworked, overwhelmed, underpaid, and ignored. The management are clicky high schoolers who demand you kiss that butt. Even if you do, if you don’t gossip it will turn on you. Leaving was the best decision I made a few months ago.

Working at Rate Insurance has been an incredible experience.  There is an effort to recognize and reward hard work.  Management is supportive, approachable, and always willing to listen to new ideas.  The team is highly motivated and there’s a real sense of camaraderie.  Rate Insurance hires the best of the best and will continue grow in the insurance industry.

This company isn't a place you want to work at forever..The mangers that run the company are tools and dont care about their employees. Good place to work if your looking for income for short term.
