Reading and Beyond

The companies over all moto is to help under privilege families with a variety of programs. From programs for parents to help them finish school and job skills programs. Preschool services and after school programs. I worked for another program provided by Reading and Beyond, Supervised Children's Rooms for DSS and DBH and DPH.These rooms are located in county offices. A good experience to get to know about the many services provided by the county and meeting new people. It was great to be able to help parents by providing care for their children while they attended classes or appointments. These services are great but I do feel that R&B needs better management. This service can provide more and benefit from more but the lack of interest that company puts into it doesn't let it expand. Therefor that's why I believe "good employees" tend to leave often. Over all its a good company.

Honestly the first year was great. Coworkers were amazing and management at the site was okay. Over they years they began hiring teachers who didn’t want to teach. Relied so much on the iPads in the class and the children were glued to them. Management went downhill and favoritism was obvious . Loved the children , but some parents crossed the line daily. The supervisor was too passive and let the parents treat the teachers very rudely. I wished they actually cared for the staff and children. If they did, then there would have been a high chance I would have stayed. Preschool program Honestly needs to get looked at because some things would get swept under the rug. 

This organization provides so many helpful programs to the communities it serves. The work is worthwhile, the team morale is remarkably high, the job duties are very clear and there is no micro-management. They are also very understanding and willing to work with you when you need to take time off. There is also a lot of room for creativity and alternative approaches to problems, you will feel heard if you have a suggestion. The biggest negatives are that there is not a lot of room for meaningful advancement, and the pay is quite low, comparatively. But the benefits are really good, they offer a 401k, medical, dental, and PTO accrues pretty rapidly.

Management
They hire people who do not know what they are doing. They lack computer skills, poor communication, and terrible feedback.

Culture
Depending who your program manager is. If they are knowledgeable and understanding, you will be successful. If they are closed minded and micromanage then you won’t be successful.

Overall
You will learn everything here. Great for entry level or right out of college. You will work closely with others. You will develop many new skills. You will be challenged.

The job was an incredibly challenging experience, primarily due to poor management and an ineffective HR department. The lack of clear communication, inconsistent decision-making, and a general disregard for employee concerns created a toxic work environment. Additionally, HR's failure to address critical issues and provide proper support made resolving conflicts nearly impossible or seeking assistance when needed. This combination of inadequate management and HR support significantly affected my job satisfaction and overall well-being during my time at the company.

Clock in at 10 am clean south building, then the restrooms by the wreck, take out trash in the kitchen then lunch. My co-workers were great we all joke around at lunch. The hardest part of the day is cleaning the preschool while making sure that there's enough tutors to tutors kids at the after school program especially when I'm the only janitor on site. The most enjoyable part of the job is when I have to go to get to meet new comers that are going to work for this organization.

I was a volunteer reader and it was a joy to work with kids who we can see grow. It was very deserving to hear from parents and supervisors about how well they've done. Environment wasn't top notch but was adequate. It teaches kids how to read--a factor that prevents self-confidence from growing in school.

Micromanaging, incompetent management, zero flexibility, no work-life balance, over worked and under paid, no training available, no consistency, favoritism, if you call out sick, you must notify everyone and you WILL be questioned about it. The CEO threatens to write you up for taking unpaid time off even if it’s an emergency. Seriously, don’t even consider this place. I’m so glad I left. 

I have been at my job over 5 year's. I love working with children. I feel I make a. Difference. I believe the children are engaged with the way I teach and are excited to learn some things new everyday. My goal is to help students become successful.

Reading and Beyond is a great job to work with students and the community. It helps the students learn and to be active as an individual and as a group. I enjoy working with kids because it is fun and a great thing to see how much they have progressed throughout the year. Working with co-workers is a great thing too because you learn from one another. The big bosses are awesome too because they are there to give help and support.
