Recovery Options Made Easy

The people who work here are great but the job itself is too hard, and the pay is literally lower than what you could make at any fast food restaurant. Turnover is a HUGE problem so the program is perpetually understaffed, which makes the job even more difficult than it already is. Employees typically stay for anywhere from a few weeks to a few months before they quit (due to the difficultly of the job) or are fired. Expectations are set too high, from the clients, their case workers, landlords, and the program director. The job itself is very stressful and there are many roadblocks that exacerbate that stress. If there are any important or drastic decisions that need to be made, it's impossible to get it done without having to jump through hoops. Caseloads are high (again due to understaffing and turnover) and unmanageable, especially when the agency holds staff to overly-high expectations. 

I typically had no issues with my coworkers or my direct supervisor, but the micromanaging and restrictions coming from above made it hard for any of us to make real progress. I didn't feel valued for my work or my qualifications, and there is little room for growth. Again, the pay is absurdly low, and you'll be underpaid while money is being wasted in other areas, paying for apartments that aren't being used, etc. It can be a frustrating place to work, and it makes it difficult to "not take work home with you," which is the most common advice if you bring up your own concerns. A common refrain is "it's a tough job but it's so important, no one's in it for the pay" and so on, but this is just used to justify the negative aspects of the job.

This is a job that is insanely difficult for so many reasons, and you need to have a truly deep passion for it; if you don't, the stress, frustration, and burnout will break you down. 

A typical day at work depends on which program you work in, but generally you see  participants with mental health/substance use issues and you do some amount of peer support/case management, and paperwork to back it up. You have a lot of freedom to work on what people actually need. The workplace culture expects you to be pretty independent and capable from the beginning. It also depends a lot on who your boss is--some are very hands off and some more hands on--the ones in Rochester care about people and they want to see the work get done. Because it is a smaller agency, there is not a lot of room for growth. I wish they prioritized paying their people at the bottom a solid wage. Some programs have overwhelming caseloads because of being understaffed. Other programs seem bored like maybe not enough referrals or too many cancellations. The executive team is where things seem to fall apart. Maybe because they are spread out over a large area, they seem very out of touch with programs and what they actually need versus lecturing staff about either little things, making demands for things that shouldn't fall on staff,  or "training" on things that are obvious versus providing real support or basic things to run a program like a budget. But all in all it is a place where you can actually make a difference and do good work without too much pressure from above. 

If you're considering a job at the Buffalo location, it's important to be aware of certain aspects. During the interview process, you'll meet two house managers. It's advisable to observe both carefully to determine the best fit for your working style. One manager appears to be supportive and fair. However, there may be challenges with the other manager as the workplace gossip they engage in can be very damaging and difficult to deal with. Personally I would choose the respite with the 8 bedrooms, the dynamic there is much better.

In the respite with the 4 bedrooms there may be instances of inconsistent communication and a perceived lack of respect among team members. This can create a challenging work environment. It's important to be prepared to navigate potential interpersonal issues and focus on maintaining professionalism.

Additionally, proficiency with computers and adherence to policies are crucial for success at this location. Errors are closely monitored, and feedback is provided by the Program Coordinator from Jamestown. While the staff and some of the guests are redeeming qualities, the role requires adaptability and the ability to handle unexpected situations. Be prepared for a dynamic work environment where each day brings new challenges.

Guest interactions assisting them with overcoming their barriers as well as Sharon lived experiences helps the period companion as they continue to overcome lived experiences as well I also enjoy assisting with resources local resources hope and skills accomplishing goals overcoming barriers.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The existing Management on staff creates a hostile work environment it's supposed to be a non judgmental work environment however the guests constantly hears the manager and negative conversations about them they don't have positive remarks about the manager on staff she creates alliances and the famous characters creating wrongful terminations.

The work environment was hostile due to the management on staff she is not there in my opinion to focus on the mission and she has created alliances and negative experiences for our guests.

What typically is successful during active shift it's only when this manager sees progress she creates negativity I have no idea why

I wanted to make a positive impact in the mental health field, but my experience at Recovery Options Made Easy was disappointing. The work itself was meaningful, and the clients deserved compassionate, quality care. Unfortunately, I felt the organization lacked consistent leadership, communication, and support for its staff.
During my time there, I often worked in challenging situations with limited staffing while trying to ensure client safety, complete documentation, coordinate discharges, and meet program expectations. Rather than feeling supported, I felt that concerns raised by staff were not always addressed consistently.
My employment ended over circumstances that I believe did not fully reflect the realities of the situation or the work I performed that day. From my perspective, important context was overlooked, and I was disappointed by how the process was handled.
I encourage anyone considering employment to ask detailed questions about staffing levels, management expectations, training, disciplinary procedures, and how employee concerns are investigated. The mission of helping people is worthwhile, but my experience as an employee left me feeling undervalued and unsupported.

This agency changed from Housing Options Made Easy, Inc. to Recovery Options Made Easy, Inc. for more than one reason. One is to highlight that the agency does more than housing and the other is to avoid people associating with the reputation that it developed through the years of being a very difficult workplace. The upper managers and all for themselves and do not admit mistakes, blames the entry level workers for not being trained/trainable or informed. They demand more and more from you as an employee and without proper supports and or information expect you to keep up. The upper management appear to only hire and promote family and friends to better positions within the agency. They claim that they care, that the employee's matter but many do not feel they show it as can be seen by the extremely high turn over in the agency. If you are listening to the hype that they care, are supportive and all that jazz then you will be another one of those moving on within the first 6 months.

Helping the participants secure housing.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
When I worked at Recovery Options Made Easy, we were short staffed and when questions we asked about certain situations, answers were not always clear by upper management. I was also put in a very dangerous situation that could have been avoided.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment was like no one cared about the people being served and some employees didn't always show up and there was difficulty keeping employees=a higher caseload.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Daily visits with participants, phone calls from participants and landlords and trying to find available apartments for participants. Dealing with issues participants were having with their housing and mental health issues.

Assistant manager made multiple employees quit and become hospitalized due to suicidal ideation. Management knew and did nothing.
They don't actually do any therapy activities.
They get paid just for documenting that you introduced yourself to the patient.
Lots of homeless individuals trying to break in overnight.
Mainly used as a homeless shelter.
Staff was very two faced.
Worked alone with dangerous individuals and criminals.
Didn't feel like I actually helped anyone.
The warmline/textline would turn into a suicide line at night and no one was trained for it. You just had to do your best.


Most staff is unhappy working at this agency.  There is little to zero administrative support and the work culture feels negative.  The administrative staff is hypocritical with their actions by expecting great work from employees without providing them with support or respect. The agency is a "no you can't do that" philosophy rather than a 'let's make it happen" philosophy.  I enjoy the Health and Human Services Field and working for this agency has made me decide to seek a career change.



Overseeing staff and guests that stay at the Respite; I work with many types of people. My job differs from the direct care staff because I am Management. I offer assistance where ever it is needed, working very closely with the staff. We set goals for the guests that come to our respite and work towards them to help them reach their goals.
