Red Rock Behavioral Health Services

I've been with Red Rock for over 19 years. I started part-time and went to school full-time. They were very flexible and encouraged me in every way to achieve my goals. While the pay is not perfect, we have to remember that we work in community mental health where funding is always at risk for being reduced or taken away entirely. Our benefits have decreased some over the years but the compensation package is still one of the best in our field of community mental health. 4 weeks of paid vacation a year plus a personal day and longevity days. Professional Growth Funds of over $800 as a case manager and even more for therapists. Of course, to get all that, you have to be there for a period of time. I've never had insurance through Red Rock as I am on my wife's plan. I do receive $300 every quarter in lieu of the company funded portion of the insurance plans. Red Rock has a history of great CFOs who have helped Red Rock maintain a reserve account for when funding is cut so we can continue serving our clients. If you are a team player who is professional, has a good attitude, can communicate effectively, and are literate ( i.e., can tell the different between there, their, and they're); you will enjoy working at Red Rock. Paperwork can be cumbersome, of course, but it has to be done and done right in order for Red Rock to be paid. There are steep penalties if paperwork is not documented properly.  We have a great team in CQI (think quality control) who are there to help us learn the correct way to complete paperwork and to let us know of any changes. I like the fact that there are so many opportunities at Red Rock. If an employee feels burned out or bored; they can transfer to any number of positions throughout the agency. Red Rock is a fun and exciting place to work and I'd recommend to anyone as a long-term workplace or even as a starting point for therapists working towards private practice. 

Red Rock is a company that requires hard work and high standards and they know it--it's a "Type A facility" as some staff have joked. This makes it difficult to stay on top of things-sometimes extremely difficult. Not to mention DMH rules and regulations complicate it. However, to say that they only care about billing and the hours you work is wrong. I had the CEO open a door for me with her hands full of stuff when I had nothing in my hands...even though I said I would get it. How many CEOs would do that? Asking them to know every single employee is unreasonable. Red Rock has up to 500 employees in several different locations across the state. I think for the size of the agency, they do a good job of making me feel valued. The benefits are outstanding and the environment, while it could be improved, is not terrible. It is very hard to balance job life and home life and sometimes "self care" feels like a complete joke and it can feel like the company's fault somehow. Realistically though, boundaries like that are up to each individual clinician. Red Rock allows for clinicians to have boundaries and say what is too much or what isn't (as long as you're doing your basic job duties and getting them done). It's just hard for a lot of clinicians to say no to extra things that are thrown their way. Ultimately self care is up to the clinician, not the agency. Not to sound harsh but they are not babysitting us--they are employing us. All in all, I have my disgruntled days...but at the end of feeling cranky due to work, I end up realizing that Red Rock, all things considered, is probably the best community mental health agency to work in currently.

When I first began at this company I fell really hard for the "were changing lives and saving lives" propaganda that is repeatedly said to everyone. After over 3 years of remaining in the same place, and only making $500 more than when I started while doing easily 6 times the work I realized that the phrase is only that, something they tell staff to get them to bend over backwards. In those 3 years they quit paying 100% of employee benefits, and began telling staff that they were "lucky to have a job, and should consider themselves grateful" whenever those staff try to take off a few hours from their 48 work weeks. 
I watched people get written up for going above and beyond for their clients and for doing the right thing, and other staff remain employed after being reported working under the influence multiple times. Some staff were granted positions they were vastly underqualified for, while others who were qualified were not even given the chance to apply when promotions were available.  I watched plenty of staff and management stab each other in the back for credit, then turning around and claim that they run a family environment. I also saw staff work their hardest only to be brought into "behavioral meetings" with multiple supervisors, which just added into the embarrassment and burnout in staff. This all occurred while management hounded staff about productivity numbers, but offered no support in meeting it. Numbers are far more important here than people, and people have been written up and fired for far less. 

You will be faced with unpredictable challenges on a daily basis, having your daily schedule change unexpectedly, and having a substantial amount of documentation that is expected to be completed in a timely manner. I could continue but if you have worked in mental health, you get this gist of what I am saying. This is just mental health! Does this take away from overall job satisfaction while working at Red Rock? ABSOLUTELY NOT! I honestly love working for Red Rock. The staff I work with are wonderful caring individuals, all with the same goal in mind - client centered care. Management takes the initiative to be involved and offers support when staff are dealing with employment and/or personal issues. I know this, as I have personally been supported by upper management on several occasions. This rarely happens in agencies as large as Red Rock. Staff are not just hired and forgotten about. They are presented with several training opportunities to improve their skills and abilities so that they have the opportunity to advance in the workplace. Additionally, Red Rock provides so many benefits and incentives to their employees. I have never worked for an agency where you are provided with financial allowances ANNUALLY for professional growth and development. Red Rock truly cares for their employees and offers so many more benefits that other competitive agencies do not. If you believe in the value of working hard for YOUR company, then you will begin to see YOUR company value you as an individual and dedicated professional. Take a change and see how Red Rock works for you!

Can be a very easy rewarding job but can also be EXTREMELY dangerous due to  fact that you are dealing with mentally ill people and individuals detoxing from drugs on a DAILY basis...ANYTHING can happen there if you work in a crisis center...i have been assaulted by patients numerous times but im  anyone who has worked in Mental Health can say the same. The best part about the job is when you can actually make a patient happy because you actually care...but alot of other employees do not care and are just there for the paycheck since they will hire ANYONE...at least when i worked there...i have seen employees drag pstients on the ground, cuss at them, deny them food,  and treat them like garbage but then again you have bad people at all jobs so...it also  because alot of the patients have no desire to get better and wilk cuss at you and assault you and turn your day into a nightmare and there is nothing much you can do about it...if you like overtime this is the place if you want it they will give it so if u need some Christmas money WORK HERE...time and a half for all holidays, flexible schedule, and pretty good benefits and you will likely work with some awesome people because my co-workers were my family i still love and talk to them! So if you have a tough skin and like helping people and want to get education or longevity  to move up Red Rock will most likely hook you up as long as you do your job right!

I have worked with Red Rock for 17 years in various positions within the company.  I started working in outpatient as an administrative assistant while I was working on my Bachelor's Degree.  Upon graduation, I was given the opportunity to advance to a clinical position providing case management services in the Canadian County office.  Since then I have held two other positions with Red Rock in the housing program.  Red Rock has provided me with different experiences and learning opportunities through various positions which has given me the opportunity to build my skills as a professional.  I have always felt support, been made to feel that I was valuable, and treated well by my immediate supervisors and those within upper management.  I have enjoyed working with my co-workers and feel that we always worked as a team to get things completed.   The most enjoyable part of my job is being able to see the impact and difference that you make in the life of another individual.  The hardest part of the job to some degree is learning how to deal with clients different personalities and learning not to take things personally that happen during the day.  Red Rock has good benefits and has been a great  employer.   I would encourage anyone to come and work for Red Rock.

Absolutely loved my job and I excelled in it. I was able to motivate clients in their recovery and in the community. My paperwork was excellent. Was give a raise and a fantastic yearly review and then three months later with never once been given a warning about doing anything wrong or given any corrective action, was told I was no longer needed and let go...
My coworker were great, loved my job. This company has a reputation for poor training. And it is absolutely poor. My philosophy is if a company is always hiring a ton of people, there's a reason for that!! They'll have you running a program and not give you any training over it, and half the time they didn't even know themselves how to do things right. They care less about their employees than any other agency I have worked for, and most certainly don't care about the clients. They also focus a lot on the city locations and let the rural locations fend for themselves. Even after a gun being pulled at a rural location a couple years ago they didn't invest in any safety measures, but they sure beefed up security at the okc locations. The location in Kingfisher isn't even handicap accessible, the bathrooms are too small and narrow to fit a wheel chair in and there are no rails... they would be a great company to work for if they were more person centered and respected the rural locations as much as the city ones.

I've worked in Community Mental Health for over a decade, and in that time, I've collaborated with or visited most of the clinics in the OKC area. In my role, I became familiar with how different organizations operate. I chose to work for Red Rock because they offered competitive pay and stood out as one of the most progressive and growth-oriented agencies in the region.

Red Rock has expanded significantly in recent years, which is impressive—but with that growth has come a noticeable disconnect between those who design organizational processes and those responsible for implementing them. Change is inevitable, but leadership needs to focus on bridging that gap to ensure consistency and quality across the organization.

There are some outstanding therapists here—people who could easily succeed in private practice but choose community mental health because they genuinely care about the mission. However, there are also staff members who are less effective in their roles, and the current management structure doesn’t provide enough time, support, or systems to address performance issues appropriately.

If the company invested more in developing and supporting middle management—particularly lead therapists and supervisors—it would go a long way toward improving communication, accountability, and overall excellence in service delivery.

This company is not one you wanna work for. Expect low pay with high demand and bad bosses. however, some supervisors are better than others. I was targeted and micromanaged/nitpicked for my every move some days. Some days could be good and others bad just depending on the mood of the supervisor. That’s definitely not the type of supervisor I want to work for. One of my coworkers was leaving and I was expected to do her job and mine with no regard to the fact I was a newer employee and no offer of compensation for temporarily doing 2 people’s jobs. I put in my 2 weeks due to this and was terminated the same day. To me it 100% seemed like retaliation because I had no write-ups and a very good review the month prior. I often felt extremely uncomfortable and the work environment was hostile most days due to my supervisor being rude to me and others who weren’t even part of our team/program. There was a lot of very strange and unprofessional behavior from both my direct supervisor and upper management. As long as I’m doing my job and doing it well there shouldn’t be an issue but things were made personal. Seems like many of the people that are here to give mental health help actually need it themselves (you can’t help others if you can’t even help yourself). 

At first they will sell you with inclusion and diversity, you are valued and important, they soothe your fears with “no worries, it takes time”. Do not be fooled. The management is awful, I was there over a year and every supervisor or program manager changed hands except one. I saw GREAT clinicians, CARING clinicians be beat down so hard that I know 3, including myself had suicidal thoughts. You’re mental health is not important, but they say it is. They expect you to put yourself in dangerous situations like meeting clients for the first time at their home and transporting clients that you don’t know. The pay is unacceptable. I personally know the CEO makes WELL over 250k but pay people 13.50 an hour. Nonprofit? Absolutely not. Clients do not graduate or succeed, I know of case managers having clients for over 10 years. They do not help anyone but themselves. I was so excited and proud to work for one of the largest MH facilities in OK, only to be treated like a work horse, performing 3 different roles and only paid for one. They wouldn’t even give me a raise for taking on additional roles other than hired on for and NO raises yearly. They make it impossible for you to succeed.
