Worst management I've ever worked under.  I have never worked for a manager that had so little investment in the running of their project.    High lack of communication between levels of management.  Severe lack of organization.  You will be given no notice if your best work is not satisfactory nor any instruction on what you need to improve.  
Workload was extremely high at the end of my employment.  Often 18-19 hour days to ensure production was on target, working 10-12 hours onsite and additional hours at home and on the weekends. Requested additional resources from management and was ignored.

For job local employees, there is very little work life/home life balance.  Travelling employees rotate home every few weeks.  

There are NO paid holidays until you reach 5 years of employment.
No paid vacation until after 2 years of employment in which you get 2 days.
There are no sick days.
Benefits are costly compared to the coverage.  Very little coverage in areas that are not the home office.  Coverage pays for very little.  Majority of medical expenses are out of pocket.  

Majority of home office personnel were very friendly and helpful.  Good attitudes and willing to lend a hand.  Great IT department.  Had more guidance and assistance from home office management than onsite management.

It is hard to work for a company when you have a bad micromanagement problem, especially in the east. If you like your every move watched, getting paid little with cheap per diem, and enjoy not being trusted, work for the east office. The field guys are great to work with, and the project managers work their backsides off. But the office manager and the former office manager do everything they can to make themselves look good, lie about mistakes they make, and constantly place blame on current workers or workers that have left. They hire people just to fill voids, and wonder why jobs run over schedule and over budget. It is also hard to see when a proposal is slashed and cut of resources to be successful, and then everyone gets yelled at because you are behind in schedule and over budget. The other offices were great to work for, but the east needs a new manager. The corporate managers seem to turn a blind eye, and won't change their practices to have an outward mindset instead of an inward mindset. There are plenty of other great companies out there that respect a work-life balance, and help you succeed rather than take all their credit for themselves.

Typical was 6 AM to 6 PM working in all weather conditions. Was switched to 6 PM to 6 AM for four weeks which caused a problem sleeping. I took the 40 hour hazwopper course and passed and relearned how to read environmental testing equipment. Management was poor and the work culture was good old boy and they did not understand what safety was for. When I got hurt they would not give me time to heal. When I finally told them I was leaving they told me that they would get me a vehicle to get me around the job site, which I had asked for months earlier. I walked about 7 miles a day to inspect the site. When a found a old six wheel unit that was not being used and had it fixed, another supervisor got it. The only enjoyable part was working outside and some of the superintendents.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
more duties and responsibilities assigned than listed in the job description, doing the work of 2-3 people for lower than avg. industry pay. NO regular raises, little room for promotion or to move up within the company. HR is on auto pilot with JazzHR. They drank the cool aid. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
snitchy, old school style of don't ask - don't tell, and just don't tell because they are a "good ole boy" culture. Not open minded, bible thumping, totally judgmental group.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
busy, stressful, 100+ calls & emails everyday- never-ending; except it's slow when it rains.

Depending on who your Project manager and Project superintendent is you will LOVE your job or you will HATE it. Then you get to work for some incompetent idiot that doesn't really know if he is coming or going and he will usually throw you under the bus for his short comings. Pay is usually towards the lower end and so is per diem. Went to one job one year came back to the same exact job same exact town and they cut the per diem never mind that the cost of living goes up. They want you to "prove" yourself before they decided to give you a raise that they had already promised, then they ship you off to another job and no ones anything about your raise anymore.

Long works days 10-12 hours 5-6 days a week, doesn't leave much time to raise a young son or have time to share with your spouse. As far as a great learning opportunity I have grown in safety knowledge with training provided by the company and multiple job types and locations.The team that I work with is second to none in a safety culture and work habits.
The hardest part of my job is the travel and not having roots in one location to the work locations changing every 6 months or so.
The best part of the job is working with a very good group of people.

Manage personnel, equipment, interpret job scope, meet with client, track cost, project revenue, complete daily, weekly, and monthly  financial reports.  Manage safety, complete bid packages, change orders, RFI's, attend project meetings, discipline personnel, hire and dismiss personnel.  Give awards to personnel that has shown a good work ethic, safety awareness.  Read and interpret blue prints for change orders, and current project scope.  Maintain project schedule,.

RECON is known to have a strong safety culture!  RECON has many locations with different clients and sometimes management is not consistent from one site to another on how they treat, pay and promote individuals.  I enjoyed my time with RECON with only a few hiccups with management.  All-in-all, I would work for RECON again, but in a different location than the one I worked before.

If you would like to work the same job forever with no possibility of advancement then recon is the company for you. the safety culture is remarkable. that is what drew me to the company. but the pay was horrific and asking for a raise was like asking for a million dollars. advancement opportunities were a joke. I knew a guy that worked there for 9+ years and never received a raise. terrible company to work for. per diem rates are lower than the standard, and pay is a very unfunny joke...

The crew was the best to work with.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Upper Management, hired office help that did not know how to do a task. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The field environment was great, but upper management was too click ish.

Very busy and we accomplished something every day.
