Working at RCTX in the beginning was great. Lunch was provided for every travel location along with our travel time when we needed to travel to other clinics/locations. Slowly but surely, lunches had stopped being provided for all but two locations and then they went away with having a travel van for a certain location that nobody wanted to drive themselves too because of how far the distance was and even then, company didn’t want to pay us for our own mileage. Patient overload to the max and only scheduled 5 minutes apart is crazy. Sometimes you have to sneak in a 10 minute lunch because of the patient load and by the time you come back from lunch, there’s already 5-10 patients waiting to be seen. Some patients will even wait a hour just to have part of their visit done, and then wait another hour to see the doctor. Sometimes with a certain doctor, you won’t clock out of work until 8-9pm. Management  always says “we are working on it” for everything and almost nothing ever gets done. Management does not care and is very unprofessional (one manager in particular for sure). Ever since this manager came and brought a couple of family members with her, there has been “cliques” and  a lot of drama and gossip between different coworkers. The work is not divided equally, and there will always be some people working and doing more things than the others while the others are the ones receiving better pay. The only good part about this job is the amazing doctors. They are all very friendly and helpful when needed. Management will expect you to bend over backwards for them in a split second and then threaten to terminate you if you don’t obey. Save yourself and your mental health and choose somewhere else to work. There is so much better out there, I can promise you. 

1. Patterns of Unprofessionalism & Verbal Abuse
Public Humiliation: The manager has frequently used a hostile tone and yelled at staff in front of patients, medical doctors, and peers, undermining the clinical authority of the office.
Disrespectful Communication:
 A consistent pattern of non-verbal hostility, including eye-rolling and dismissive behavior toward both medical staff and support employees.

2. Physical Intimidation & Volatile Behavior
"Temper Tantrums":When outcomes do not go his way, the manager reacts with physical outbursts, such as slamming chairs and raising his voice to an aggressive volume, creating a climate of fear and anxiety.

3. Systemic Favoritism & Toxic Culture
Preferential Treatment: Management decisions are based on personal favoritism rather than performance or clinical standards.

Hostile Environment: The atmosphere is characterized by tension rather than patient-centered care, making it impossible to perform duties safely and effectively.

4. High Turnover & Institutional Neglect
Retention Failure: Within a short period, four high-performing employees have resigned due specifically to this manager’s behavior.

Incompetence Protection: The organization has chosen to retain an incompetent manager over stabilizing the workforce, leading to a "churn" culture where turnover is ignored rather than addressed.



Retina Consultants of Houston (RCH) is a great company to work for the following reasons: They have a team of excellent doctors who aim for excellence, which shows as they have FDA approved x2 research sites. They provide great benefits. The doctors are very supportive and kind to their team/staff. They truly aim for team-approach. Very good people. They aim to provide best and professional care for their patients. The negative is a big negative in my eyes is the work culture. Most of the staff end up spending more time with their fellow co-workers (and patients too) and that really has an impact. A lot of the fellow co-workers are not team-oriented, competitive, some tear each other down, looking out for themselves only, are dishonest, etc. Of course there are nicer, more team oriented co-workers as well, but more rare. The managers can vary. Some/most actually seem to encourage the competitiveness, divisiveness, they have a certain hierarchy created among themselves that a lot of them seem to enjoy implementing, etc. I will say there are a few (rare) great managers and co-workers, it all depends on the location that you have been assigned.

The hardest part of the job can be managing the demands of a fast-paced healthcare environment, but it also keeps things exciting. The most enjoyable part is seeing the direct impact we have on employees' careers and patient outcomes.

I worked as a Clinical Research Coordinator at Retina Consultants of Texas and gained valuable experience in ophthalmology clinical research. The role provided exposure to a wide variety of Phase I–IV clinical trials, advanced ophthalmic procedures, and opportunities to work closely with investigators, sponsors, and patients.
The fast-paced environment helped me develop strong skills in patient recruitment, regulatory documentation, data entry, and clinical trial coordination. I also had the opportunity to work with industry-leading technologies and contribute to cutting-edge research.
The workload can be demanding, and balancing multiple studies, patient visits, sponsor expectations, and administrative responsibilities requires strong organizational and time management skills. Those who thrive in fast-paced clinical research environments will likely find the experience rewarding.
Overall, it was a great opportunity to build clinical research experience, particularly for anyone interested in ophthalmology or advancing their career in the research field.

Overall, this job is okay. Clinics are usually busy with patients waiting for almost 2 hours and some days patient can be in and out.  I just depends on how many are scheduled for the day. Some days are harder than others, especially when doctors can get off track. After clinic is when you can really get things done such as checking/requesting insurance authorizations to make sure patients can receive treatment for their appointment or even finish your charts. 

This job is good for someone considering going into the medical field (med school, nursing school, PA school, etc.) but I haven’t really seen many opportunities to move up in the company. 

Training for this job is very involved, but there could be some improvements which is normal. However, the check-ins that are needed at 90 days can be hard to attend because you’re involved in clinic that you aren’t available on the day HR needs you to be. 

Overall, my experience has been okay. Definitely hoping for more familiarity to ease this transition. 

Great place to get your foot in the door and learn, Doctors are more than willing to take you under their wing and teach if you show interest in the field. Management and poor support from HR is the huge downfall of this place. You’ll be expected to work at 1 of 8 locations in San Antonio sometimes being asked to go to a different one last minute or even as soon as you show up. Countless times after a long overbooked day in clinic you will be asked to take on one or two more tasks to prepare for the next day (something out of your job description) that a manager should be doing to prepare their team. Typical high turnover rate healthcare gig. Drama/gossip problem, all of which management will believe if coming from one of their beloved favorites. Hard work is definitely not rewarded here, but talking about how much you do/people pleasing will. They have a cash incentive referral program but no one wants to refer their friends/family, go figure. 

The company provides ample learning opportunities with in house classes you can sign up for for free to learn and advance in your career. They provide endless training resources available to anyone willing to learn more. 
Admin provides support during life transitions, natural disaster situations, or with job issues. Provides health, vision, dental, 401k, disability, life insurance, and a program that can assist with child care, therapy, legal matters, gym membership... because our well being is important.
They have incintive program for employees where we get to recognize each other for our hard work and earn points to buy literally anything.
Lots of engaging fun activities to get involved in.
Quarterly townhall meetings and monthly newsletters to keep you in the loop on all things going on.
I appreciate the positive work environment at RCTX, it allows me the peace to enjoy my purpose; caring for the patients.


What is the best part of working at the company?
Getting to travel to satellite offices and some employees were very nice

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Upper Management. Complete turnover in staff when employees use to stay and retiree but the uppers that are running it now think every employee is a bad employee.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
As long as you work in a satellite office your work longevity is more safe. If you work in the main office be careful of management.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
When I asked questions I was told everytime in the handbook. No training. I knew from week one they was not the work environment that they lead me to believe. Not one employee is safe in their work tenure here what is left let's say that. Most all are new employees so maybe they will get to stay.
