Great career for non-billable employees (administration, support staff), just a job for civil engineers, designers and surveyors. Rick Engineering has some extremely talented civil engineers and designers. Problem is, as with most engineering firms with multiple offices, communication/billing/company standards is an issue. Rick lost some key upper management in 2020/21 and I feel they are scrambling to keep things afloat. I recommend applying in 2022 to give them a chance to organize and train management.

Typical Work Week: Get paid for 40 hrs a week, expected to work a minimum 45 hrs a week. Will have to work more to meet project deadlines and stay under budget and this is a constant pressure felt from administration.

Hardest part of the job is getting work done, constantly putting out fires on low value urgent tasks I feel should be done by clerical staff. Also difficult working with other RICK offices as they have their own way of doing things (e.g. custom AutoCAD blocks, templates, etc).

Best thing about Rick - again some very talent civil engineers and designers work there.

Unnecessarily stressful. Not a good working environment. Toxic coworkers and incompetent managers, save a few good people.

You will not grow in this position. You will learn 90% of your job in the first 2 months and then you will only be doing mindless work that nobody else wants to do. You will sit in a desk 8-10 hours, every day. Incompetent managers will tell you one thing, and change their mind, wasting days of effort on your part. 

The pay is acceptable, but that was about it. It was good training in becoming an autocad robot. You don't even get to be called an engineer.

Rick Engineering provides a toxic culture where employees are yelled at and bullied rather than listened to. In disputes between two employees, actual fault and difficulties aren't addressed, but rather swept under the rug. The employee with more seniority is given preferential treatment. Questions asked of superiors, regardless of contact, are met with yelling and demeaning language before the question is even completed. Long hours are expected and little support is given to ensure that an employee has the tools needed to guarantee success.

Many positives about my time at Rick and overall a great place to start/end a career. However, the company structure tends to reward employees equally, regardless of effort,  and there is a WIDE disparity of effort. Mid-level employees often are held back, as Pricipals are primarily charged with stamping plans and managing clients. A lot of emphasis on technical knowledge for younger staff but less about client and project management. 

This job is burnout central and the pay scale is messed up big time. They don't listen to employee complaints and just gaslight you for every little thing. If it wasn't for the corporate benefits package I would have left a long time ago. This place has left a sour taste for the survey industry. All the crew chiefs cheat hours and do minimal work at least in the Phoenix office..the money comes from restake everything else is just games to these guys.

As an intern , I found the experience both challenging and rewarding, offering hands-on opportunities to apply my academic knowledge in real-world scenarios. The team was supportive and inclusive, fostering a collaborative environment that encouraged learning and professional growth. This internship not only sharpened my technical skills but also enhanced my problem-solving abilities, making it an invaluable step in my engineering career.

RICK's high retention rate speaks to both its close company culture and value on individual professional development. Having multiple in-house disciplines creates a dynamic, collaborative work environment.  Management is very accessible, which is helpful for training and mentorship.

My experience with Rick is that the firm took care of its employees and clients . I would recommend them to anyone in our field . The firm made it easy to work hard by compensating the employee and by being a family friendly firm.

spent the last 19 years working for this company. Overall one of the better jobs I've had. Great benefits and great co workers and management. My overall experience here has been awesome
