What is the best part of working at the company?
I was very happy there. I got a chance to work in many different departments over the course of my employment, and learn and grow each time. I took courses for some of the positions and learned very much doing that. Got to interface with the physicians and the nurses, as well as my coworkers. I worked independently for the most part, but corroborated on team efforts for various projects that came up . 
I worked with so many wonderful people with a common goal of trying to make the health experience and the visits that our patients had with us a more positive and hopeful experience.   Accuracy, in reporting was part of my job, and finding ways to streamline that process.


What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Overall, it wasn’t a stressful experience for me there. We had to all learn about government standards, and things that we needed to comply with, and that part was a little stressful just because there was so much to learn, but it was so very important that it made it easy to focus on the goal. 





What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
I am not there right now. The hospital is facing challenges. Like many of the other hospitals in California and services have had to be cut as well as staffing. So I’m sure for the people that are still working there. It is stressful. I’m sure they are all just doing the best they can for the community. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
When I was still working there, a typical day involved, working on patient records, making spreadsheets and analyzing data, answering phones, and assisting the CALLER with whatever their information was that they needed from me. Also involved interfacing with the physicians regarding documentation questions that I had. at the same time we were going through a new computer system for documentation and I was part of the launch team with that I’ll be at a small part but that was also very exciting.  I had been on a software launch program at another facility a few years prior and I enjoyed that type of work.

Here at Ridgecrest I've seen lots of amazing cases. I think patients here don't go to the doctor until they are really sick. We work with the Philips IU22 and this machine is a fast, detailed machine. We are definitely spoiled getting to work with the IU22.

Our radiology department consists of nice and courteous individuals and we work hard together. My 3 years here seems like only a short time because every body here is competent, easy to get along with, and caring.

We've updated and rebuilt our hospital in the last three years with lots of changes for the better. Changes are hard, but well worth the effort and adjustment.

The hardest part of the job for me is working every weekend, because I get no weekends off with my family.

From my three years of work experience as a Unit Secretary while going to ultrasound school, I learned that team work between the many departments and people in the hospital is essential. I really appreciate our helpful staff that make my job easier. Frequently ultrasound orders are incorrect and I have to remember, when I was a Unit Secretary, how hard it was to figure out what to order for ultrasound exams.

I work three 12 hour shifts and work those same nights on call. We are working with the ER doctors to keep the on call exams to only emergent cases and have the non-emergent cases come back during the day shift.

I like doing my job to the best of my ability because I want my patients to have the best possible care. They need answers to manage their health care.

Unfortunately this place could really be great if it wasn't the typical "who you know" atmosphere. Most managers are inadequate at best, and the company hires from within. Not from within the company but within the family. If you work here and have a sister, brother, mother, cousin, in-law that works here to and as soon as your kids graduate high school their guaranteed a job too--YOU'RE HIRED! Most employees have no formal education and have been put in positions like pawns on a chess board. Due to the high population of LVN's, this facility allows LVN's to be in management. This is the only place that I have ever seen this happen. So in short, some LVN's feel they are better than other LVN's and other medical staff. Most of the nurses that come out of the local college are not trained properly, and have NO true critical skills, I know because I am one of those who attended in town. I feel that if I went to places like LA, or San Diego, I would be completely lost and I guess that is why so many people here stay here. They can't make it anywhere else. God only knows why I came back. Everyone in Ridgecrest wants to be a nurse but many lack the critical thinking skills and personable, approachable personality that patients need. On top of everything else, no paid holidays. You have to use your PTO to take a federal holiday off.

Usually work is what you make of it, but it’s hard to be positive when your colleagues are as cut throat as they are here. Don’t expect any support from your higher ups, managers, and HR. They’re there to protect the hospital, not the employee. You need to have tough skin as there’s no discipline for managers that talk down on you. Keep to yourself, as gossip runs rampant  in a small hospital in a small town. Recently there have been pay raises that were very good, which is what has kept me from seeking employment elsewhere. The benefits are good, time off is flexible, and there’s always employee engagement events happening 

During COVID, this position was created to help protect the patients and staff by enforcing the mask requirements and monitoring temperatures of all visitors. Unfortunately, the current social climate allows adults to behave badly and thus the door monitors are subjected to daily, often hourly, abuse by those unwilling to follow the requirements. Breaks were not covered by the security department, making it difficult to step away without inconveniencing other departments, who were extremely busy themselves, so often no breaks are taken, which would be helpful to relieve some of the stress of the job. 

I got to the ICU, where I specifically worked in the hospital, at about 7:30 in the morning, three times a week. My first job was usually to take the patients' temperature and other vitals. Then I would bring in the patients' breakfast. For the rest of my time there I would shadow a nurse and get a real feel for what they really do in the health care field. The hardest part of my job and my co-workers are in the same category. The nurses that I followed were hard to work with; they mostly ignored me, and called me by the wrong name. When I first started there it was really bad, but by the end of the year we were more like friends than ever. The best part of my job was meeting so many people and helping them get better.

I recommend don’t work this job, first of all there were more than enough times where there was nobody available  to cover my breaks or lunches which are legally required. It’s also super hard to take time off even if it’s just for one day. I once asked for time off months in advance and my manager completely forgot about it when the time came for me to leave for my trip. Also patients are extremely mean to you and have no respect for you. They will cuss you out and use foul language directly to you because they don’t want to wear a mask and nobody will back you up or help you out and you’re just left there to rot while you’re mistreated.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Mandatory overtime, they don't care about your personal or school life, endless text messages and phone calls to come in, unrealistic goals and ideas 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Toxic, non caring, all people care about is who fits in with each other. They don't care about what is best for the patients 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Stressful, my manager was obsessed with numbers and not about the patients longterm outcome

Great group of folks to work with, including my immediate boss. People are sicker today than they werre 30 years ago so a 12 hour shift could be quite challenging but  rewarding if you look for the good and remember why you work. It can be rewarding. As a seasoned RN and a charge nurse, I looked forward to working with new nurses. The benefits were good.They fit my needs. Health programs. And the company was becoming more diversed. I have since retired and moved out of state, but believe me I'd go back part time in a heart beat. Great place to work.

Ridgecrest Regional Hospital is fast pace. I learned alot about the residents their and how to individualize their needs.  Management was prompt and well organized.  Co-workers worked together and new we were there for the samething and that was the well being of the resident, and to maintain a healthy environment for employees and residents.  Hardest part of the job is when someone is in critical condition, you cant do anything for them but to comfort them and to make sure they are not alone when they expire.The most enjoyable part of the job is to see them get better, mission accomplished.
