I'm now a Family Nurse Practitioner after working more than 17 years at Rio Grande Regional Hospital and I still yearn to work in this place. RGRH/HCA had help me improved my skills and made me a better nurse that I am today. I love the management and the environment. I will work as full time FNP when they have an opening in a heartbeat. The management acknowledge monthly birthdays with free lunch, give us free yearly employee picnic,100% educational reimbursement, gift card on Christmas, gifts on nurses week/hospital day, and have an open CEO meetings for employees best of all; my director in ICU doesn't play favorites and she hears all sides of the story of any employee's grievances. I love her as such.The CNO makes daily rounds in all departments and the employees can talk to her. I appreciate her dearly. My heartful thanks to the managerment and corporation if I leave the place.

During the pandemic many nurses left due to lack of staffing and lack of pay raises. Surround hospitals all provided some sort of benefit but not this one. The coworkers were great but the pay wasnt there and during the worst times management stepped up to help but higher ups would not help floor staff. Could not divert, could not provide incentives, could not provide more staff, and wanted to cancel full time staff for travelers. This place is a great place to learn but value metrics over staff. It feels like most ERs. Its not a terrible place to work or travel but overall during the worst of times could have done more. Due to those issues a lot of good people left. I say this place is just okay but nothing more. Might return for more pay but never fulltime.  

What is the best part of working at the company?
Look after employees to insure they have the tools to do the job. Insure employee safety and wellness by providing in-house testing of employees 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Short staffed at times so patient’s don’t receive enough bedside care time 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Work environment is competitive in some areas. For new employees this is a problem because the mentor may not teach the new employee all she needs to know to do a good job.  Mentor may feel threatened 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Insure patients receive choice of caregivers post hospitalization.  Insure equipment and care providers are in place for continued care post hospitalization

This company and hospital does not pay their Radiology staff well. Cap for veteran techs is not even $29. Their pay is a joke. They want you to help them with supervisor duties with promises of raises but they work you to death with no increase in sight. If you want a good paying job you are better off applying at DHR, Knapp Medical Center, Mcallen Medical or Edinburg Regional (STHS). Avoid the stress, being over-worked and the penny pinchers. Good luck getting days off as well. No one applies here because of the low pay so they don't have enough personnel for you to take days off. Overworked and understaffed due to low pay in Radiology Department.

This hospital mimics what I imagine the inside of a prison to be like. It’s very outdated, there is no money to made here which is why there is no money put into the hospital. The staff have been here since it’s conception, and it shows. They’re rude, uncompassionate and unprofessional; not only to patients, but to each other. This is merely a stopping place for those that are illegal getting their hopes granted in having US citizen children. The staff are closed-minded and unwelcoming, especially after they’re even here in the first place. They should be feeling gratitude and thankfulness. Not only because they’re employed here but because it’s the right thing to be in the medical field.

SOMEONE mention MCALLEN MEDICAL WORSE hospital to work at, well RIO GRANDE REGIONAL worsest if such a word!

if you are a butt kisser will make it far, but if you are just a hardworking person, comes in does GREAT job, doesn't gossip or hang with BAD crowd will be signaled out.  And will get lied about and no raises(i lived it, so left for this  reason) . 
MGT doesnt care about employees, only the numbers.   You would think they would care about such heavy turnovers, constantly people quitting.
ITS more cost effective to try retain GOOD employees versus having to train new nurses, unit secretaries and pcas.

Operates instrumentation for tissue dehydration, section clearing, impregnation with paraffin,cutting tissue sections, and staining of slides. Prepares solutions, stains, and reagents in accordance with standards written procedures. Operates and maintains all histology area lab equipment in proper state of readiness, cleanliness,and sharpens and hone microtome knives. Records number of tissue blocks verifying proper identification and label. Performs and monitors inventory of supplies, equipment, and reagents used, and places orders for replacements as required.

Answer patient call signals, signal lights, bells, or intercom systems to determine patients' needs. Turn or reposition bedridden patients. Provide physical support to assist patients to perform daily living activities, such as getting out of bed, bathing, dressing, using the toilet, and standing, walking, or exercising. Review patients' dietary restrictions, food allergies, and preferences to ensure patient receives appropriate diet.  Measure and record food and liquid intake or urinary and fecal output, reporting changes to medical or nursing staff. Record care given and report abnormalities to RN.

This place is a big joke to work at.

There are no standards.  You work alone with no help or assistance of any type.  No transporter to assist.

The ER is constantly busy and you end up scanning and transporting enough patients to keep Two Technologists and a transporter busy.

Then the director, Joe, Deducts a lunch break even though you are required to carry and answer the department phone at all times and can't leave the premises on your break because there is no one to cover for you or relieve you.

Of all of the places where I have worked, this is the most wonderful of all of them.  The staff and administrators are caring. Even though the administrators have to pay attention to the numbers, they do meet with the department directors and case managers to ask how the patients are doing and do so in a genuine manner.  I worked in several departments, and in all of them, we all worked together as a team.  Teamwork is instilled from the top down.  Unfortunately, it might not be the highest paying place to work, but it is a comfortable place to work.
