What is the best part of working at the company?
Working remotely is the only thing this company has going for it.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The best way to describe Root is it’s the Dollar General of insurance companies. The pay is terrible and you don’t get commission if you sell a policy. This is supposedly a tech company yet all of their CRM software barely works. There are constantly issues with it and you typically have to use 3 different programs just to complete one task. The metrics are completely ridiculous and unreasonable. Upper management is clearly clueless as to what they are doing and are just making it up as they go along. There is no employee appreciation and the company has to hire people 20 at a time since no one wants to work here.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
A Clown show filled with garbage tech and complete morons for leadership that can only micromanage. The pay is terrible, you’ll be wasting your time there, it’s not worth the aggravation. All they will do is copy and paste a response to this review acting like they care or that things will change rather than actually doing something to make this job or company better. The one star reviews are completely accurate. Do not work for Root.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
People call thinking they’ll get cheap insurance since this company such a joke and then get annoyed when the quote is a hundred dollars more a month than every other company. The CRM software will break or barely function so you’ll be constantly frustrated. You’ll get QA scores nitpicking every single mistake you made and no positive feedback ever. You’ll probably spend most of your time between calls looking for a better job and will fully expect to be laid off by the end of the year.

Working at Root Insurance was a negative experience overall. There was a severe lack of communication throughout the company, with managers seeming disorganized and unclear about policies. Supervisors displayed little care for their workers, and HR was particularly ineffective in handling issues and communicating with employees.

The job itself was draining and detrimental to mental health. Dealing with upset customers who were blindsided by insurance rate increases, without any notification or explanation provided by Root, took a toll on both myself and my colleagues. We were unable to offer customers a valid reason for their rate increases, further exacerbating the frustration and dissatisfaction experienced by both employees and customers alike. The pay was low, and opportunities for advancement were seemingly reserved for favorites of management, fostering an atmosphere of favoritism. Ultimately, I am relieved to have moved on from this company

After I left the company it took an unreasonable amount of time, approximately three months, to return company equipment because HR failed to provide clear instructions. This lack of professionalism extended to the management level, contributing to a toxic work environment. 


At first, Root was a fairly good place to work. I loved my supervisor and my team. Upper management was reclusive, but we still had high employee morale. When my original supervisor was promoted to upper management, she changed and became very strict and not good at communicating with her people. Our customer base was bottom-of-the barrel, and that is hardly ever a good idea in the insurance industry. Customers became bitter, and we were not allowed to respond. Once our supervisors were laid off and the customer service managers came over to the sales department, it was downhill from there. Not to mention, the insurance advice that was given by many of our people was wrong. Many of the staff had no prior insurance experience and didn't know anything more than P&C basics. Some did not know that. Root was becoming a tech savvy, social media savvy version of the General instead of the Progressive, Statefarm, Nationwide Insurance, competitor that they wanted to be. Also, not offering us the opportunity to sell homeowners insurance made a lose a lot of bundle opportunities. Many customers went elsewhere since we did not offer it. I think all of my coworkers who were there are now gone. Either laid off, quit, or termed. I don't think any of them lasted over 2 or 3 years. 

Manger blames adjusters. 
Managers do not care about there broken systems and broken processes.

This is by far the worse place to work. The expectation is for adjusters to work around the broken process and broken systems. Adjusters are to give and give, and this company will take and take. 

If you question or suggest a new way, it is consider insubordination, being combative, and hostile. 
If you point out the flaws and errors, you are not a team player. 

Management does not care and they over work adjusters for little pay, while management is collecting the year bonuses.


If you do not speak up, stay quiet, do the work between 6am-11pm and kiss up to them, you will be good. 

However, if your experience is to show innovation or how to fix the errors, you are deemed a troubled employee and black listed. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
The best things in my opinion are remote work and okay pay 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The training was okay but was only 2 weeks before you’re put on full rotation. They lied and told us we would be ramped up slowly to get the hang of it but that was a lie. PTO will be hard to take off since it’s a “bucket” and no more than 4 people off per day.  No PTO around end of the year Holidays and the insurance kind of sucks if your someone with kids or a family and plan to visit the doctor regularly.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Quiet most people keep to themselves so you have to work extra at getting to know coworkers if that’s your thing it also Depends on your team and manager. If you really like to keep to yourself, it’s your jam.

I thought all insurance carriers were the same until i started with root. From day 1 I could tell their culture was on another level. I was never afraid to make mistakes and during my coaching opportunities my manager made sure to build me up so I left my meetings ready to apply what I learned in my areas of weakness. The culture is also big on collaboration numerous slack channels dedicated to fun, technical issues in the job and different hobbies. My remote team felt like a family and the APD department did a great job at keeping us engaged through great trainings and fun zoom meetings to keep moral high. 

Worked with Root and they grew way to fast. The sales department was brand new therefore the training was sub par at best. Call volume was 1 per hour. Management was ok, the lead source was trash which is part of the reason they fired the majority of it's sales and claims dept. People knew it was coming but upper management kept the lay offs or firing a secret until the last day. Severance pay was not enough. Their product is not competitive in my opinion. 

They should have planned this better instead of hiring hundreds of people only to fire them months later. They set up the bonus structure in a way that no one would make the max. It was a bad experience and I regret working there.

Currently employed with Root. I will not leave a detailed review. As a start up any issues you find in a larger insurance organization such as diversity, discrimenation, favoritism, and lack of leadership (Tons of "Manager's) is exacerbated with Root. Until, recently Root always overstaffed for volume, which is the number 1 complaint for any adjuster. All benefits promised initially by Root have all been striped away. Cell phone reimbursement, Unlimited PTO, Free Lunch. Currently no internet reimbursement for remote work nor do they plan to offer it. Basic health benefits (Pro: High cost plan is free) and retirement  benefits, no bonuses, no tuition reimbursement or student loan assistance.

I loved working at Root. But I noticed they were hiring way too many people. So one day they let over 300 people go! They kept $800 in my HSA which is normal, but made me sick! 
A typical day consisted of answering calls and lead transfers. I would ask scripted questions to determine the prospects needs, and build a quote for auto and home insurance. I'd explain the quote and send it in an email. Then walk the customer through the steps of accepting the quote and downloading the app.  I really enjoyed helping the customers!
The hardest part was not getting enough incoming calls.

I've worked in customer service and the medical field, but I feel like I belong at Root! I am hoping this ends up being my career!! I've been here for almost 2 yrs & have learned so many things not only about my job but about myself professionally. As a single mother it has been a blessing to be able to work from home so I can be there for my children & this is the first time in 10 years that I haven't had to work multiple jobs to keep a roof over our heads. I am thankful for this opportunity!
