Rotolos Pizzeria

In my time with the company I've found these faults:

-Lack of communication and involvement between corporate and store managers; several weeks would go by any regional manager unavailable to meet.  They would often apologize for 'neglecting my store'.

-They don't offer attainable incentives; after requesting a review to gain direction and work toward a raise, it took 4 months to conduct and complete.  Once done I was offered an undefined raise IF I could meet labor and food goals for 2 months.  When I did achieve these goals I was told I had earned a raise and that they would get back to me...several weeks later I was told that the raise was rejected by the owner of the company.  The reason provided; "When the owner of the company tells you to do something, it doesn't get done."  It should be said that I have had one meeting with the owner of the company, he gave me three directives two of which I carried out- and the third required the purchase of a piece of equipment which was denied by the CEO.

-Criticism is not constructive; during my tenure I took 6 weeks maternity leave.  Two months after my return I was told by the regional manager that they were "fielding so many complaints while I was pregnant, but didn't want to say anything because they thought it was just hormones".  I don't know why they would avoid addressing issues with me for any reason and feel this put my development back quite a bit.  Another example of this was during a meeting addressing staffing when my regional manager suggested the reason the staff wasn't reciprocating my efforts was because he thinks I'm autistic.  I am not diagnosed with any such disorder and found this a disappointing deflection away from their duty to correct or direct me and instead place blame on a factor that, were it applicable, would have been out of my control anyway.

The time spent with this company has taught me that I require a more supportive team than was available to me here. 


Rotolo's is a great place to work for a server or kitchen worker. Attempt to stay away from management positions. Fun atmosphere and usually customers that are regulars for this company tend to tip very well. Great food and pizza. Some of the best around in my opinion. This company offers little to no benefits if you aren't in a leadership or management role. Schedules are usually flexible but be prepared if you say that you have open availability, as they will use that against you. Management for this company is "if-y". Like with most restaurants, management for these stores are usually younger people, some still being in college that are friends of the family or someone close to the family. Hit or miss. Some good. Some bad, as you could expect from a stressed out college kid working 50+ hours a week in a semi-fast paced restaurant and also attending school full time. This company does a lot of fun things for the local LSU campus, but if you aren't in the "in" crowd or a friend of the family, you more than likely will not get to do things like that as they will "need you for the restaurant" every time.  If you are a college student and looking for great tips or a kitchen worker looking for a fun atmosphere, this actually is a great place to work. Fun and laid back. If you can go to a job, do what you are supposed to do without letting management drive you crazy, and then go home and leave it all at work, then this is a place for you.

Rotolo's is a family owned business with corporate and franchise stores.
For a server a typical day starts at 10am, you set the store up for the lunch rush, the day is usually busy until around 2pm when most of the servers go home for the day leaving one lead server until 5pm when the night shift comes in. During that time the lead server cleans up the store and gets it ready for the dinner rush which is between 5pm-8pm, on week days they close at 9pm.
The management is good, but not great.
Like any restaurant there are things not to like. The hardest part is putting a smile on your face when your in a grumpy mood or when a customer is being rude. However, there are good times too. Most of all i loved our regular customers.

Working here is very fun when I have friends there to work with. However, when I worked with negative people, it's very hard to get into a good mood. Which affects my work. If you can't work almost everyday for them, they won't like you and they'll find anything to push you out. They're very fake and shady. It has poor management so the bartender runs the shift. The management stays in the kitchen and cooks because they are so poorly staffed. While working bar one would see that the bar is never fully stocked and the management doesn't care. It does not affect them. Their management is 2 twenty year olds and a GM who has no clue what's doing on all the time. Favoritism is seen often while working here. Overall it is not a very good place to work.

At first I wasn’t too sure about working at a pizzeria, but I have a quote I kinda live by when it comes to working for any company. 

“People don’t leave jobs. They leave the management of those said jobs.”

The (former) kitchen manager was just GREAT at what he did. He was on point with a lot of the operations. He was also very easy to talk to.

Unfortunately, my time there was cut short due to some very unfortunate circumstances that involved the former GM at the location & morning operations were temporarily stopped. I would’ve gone back there if I didn’t already find another job. I cannot say anything about the current management team, but I’m sure they are still doing well with everything.

Working for Rotolo’s is decent most of the time. They do not offer competitive wages, most people in the restaurants start off at minimum wage. They like to pretend they’re a great company to work for but they really offer nothing. What’s a raise? Won’t find the answer at Rotolo’s. Management is given zero support. Things break & stay broken in the restaurants. Corporate office is a joke filled with unqualified people who have never worked a day in any of the restaurants (or any restaurant for that matter). The head honchos like to think they’re running a Fortune 500 company when in reality they’re just a small, struggling chain restaurant.

The management was unprofessional. I enjoyed some of the other servers, but overall the managers are inconsiderate and play favorites. It’s easy to make good tips but that’s if you’re assigned at least more than 2-3 tables at a time. They’re typically over staffed and let their top people have the better sections. It’s also very strange to me that their MANAGERS serve on the floor in their own assigned sections often and keep tips. I’m sure you can see how that may create some sort of conflict of interest when being fair while assigning sections to the servers. 

The job was fine. The management was fine. Only problem i had with management was they dont count your money in front of you but make you put the money in a bag and drop it in a box then will randomly start saying that you shorted them even if you 100% know you didn't. So i suggest video recording everytime you do your money count for proof! The environment was pretty uncomfortable. The people definitely were not the most fun to be around especially in the kitchen. Pay wasnt sustainable. I made about 300-400 a week. Maybe a good fit for a student otherwise i wouldnt suggest it.

The culture and concept were great. The company's marketing team did a poor job at executing new ideas that did not originate in their office.

The pay was not competitive with the food service market standard at the time.  The bonus structure only worked for the newer stores that money was poured into. 

The food had great quality and the people there really loved what they did but support for management was non-existent and defining a culture piece outside of the flagship store was next to impossible without starting a new staff from zero.

Rotolos itself should be a very easy and laid back place to work. However, management is constantly changing and the quality of managers they hire is very poor. I have worked for both the Destrehan and River Ridge locations and they are always short staffed. The employees they do have get no say in their schedule, and cannot receive paid time off. Do not expect to receive days off that you request. The overall moral is poor. I would not suggest working here to a friend, especially if you are a parent.
