A typical day would be listening in on morning staffing report, before shift start. Answer all phone calls and redirecting to the correct patient or staff member. Translate medical orders, assist physicians and nurses. Perform any tasks necessary to maintain workflow in the unit. Tasks might be from making sure repairs are done on equipment, assisting nurses, answering call lights, stocking med room, ordering office supplies. Greeting family and visitors to patient rooms.

When I left to relocate to California, I found that past eight years in my unit left me missing a great group of people. My company was the most positive place to be employed. Compassion for the employees, great benefits, and perks. The perk was a full health club membership located on campus- tennis, personal trainers, workout equipment (state of the art), pool, gym, dry cleaning service. This company rated tops for their employees and families.

We had bowling, baseball teams. Parties at the holidays, Christmas Breakfast with Santa.

Our management team had an open door policy. I had the pleasure of working with a top group of nurses. They always thanked me for a good job. Our nurses were strong team players. But, still had time for a good laugh or plan something fun when the day allowed.

The hardest part of my job was watching people die. Sometimes family dynamics, Watching fellow co-workers taught me how to give better customer service in times of stress. Assisting with distraught families allowed me help my team. This was my reward, feeling part of the team. I truly enjoyed what I did for my unit.

Beware: I would stay very far away from the imaging department with the current manager in place. The “openings” they say are open are most likely not the actual shifts you will work. It was very frustrating having a bait and switch happen when I had already left my other job. I was so excited to work here and could not have been more disappointed. There is NO work/life balance for new people here. The manager of the imaging department is horrendous. I know a lot of people put down management but believe me when I tell you this will be the worst management you will experience. The schedule was put out without midnights scheduled on many occasions and then the afternoon people walked in the door and someone had to stay 4 hours past their scheduled end time to do half a midnight shift. I worked with some great people and I appreciated everything they taught me but it is not a place I would recommend for anyone. I thought so highly of RCMC but after my experience here, I under no circumstances recommend this facility for a CT tech

What is the best part of working at the company?
I worked with some great people that I still count as friends. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
There are 3 main issues. 1) The amount of people the dept. was allowed to have forced overtime and a loss of quality of life. 2) The job is a lot of responsibility for preservation of life, yet, the support and training are severely lacking. There was a change in priorities, and now, the attitude is "Oh well, mistakes in codes will happen" 3) This puts a lot of pressure on anyone who takes life safety seriously to step in for all those people that just aren't going to be bothered to follow proper procedure.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Lip service to ideals, but, if you really care about safety and true fairness to those that want to do their job well, you will be severely dissapointed. Avoid.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Crazy busy at times and the stress of being responsible for life safety is made 10× worse by the fact that there are about 1/3 of your co workers that can't be bothered to even try to get it right.

This place is a complete disaster. There is no formal training, you sit with people from different departments to see how differently every single person works in that department and are expected to pick up the information. The professional managers are vindictive,miserable, inexperienced, and uneducated. They were worry more about the workplace gossip than the actual patients. One manager does absolutely nothing all day but gossip with her favorites and never actually discuss work while in the office. They promote people who sit in the bathroom all day, never answer emails, or sit at their desks taking personal calls on their cell phones. The workers who are actually knowledgeable aren’t allowed to work to their full potential as this makes the “favorites” look bad. The pay is below average and not worth the stress. Do yourself a favor and look at the other local hospitals.

i am really glad that I had the opportunity to work for such a great organization. I really enjoyed my time at Rush Copley. My work day was never the same given my position as a floating housekeeper, I learned so much from this position. Such as, how important it is to always double check your work when disinfecting and sanitizing a patient room. I had a great and supportive management team as well as my co-workers. There were many days we all leaned on each other for additional assistance to get us through the high volume of patient discharges. The hardest part of the job, I would have to say is when the department was a bit understaffed. Not knowing what direction the shift would go could sometimes be a bit overwhelming, however we always seemed to manage to pull together as a team complete all assignments. That is what made the job so enjoyable, it was and always will be the staff that I worked with.

Switchboard is a small department. Ten people do their utmost to make sure that switchboard is running 24/7. We provide emergency response, life safety code calling, information, call routing, and clerical support for the hospital. Each shift cooperates with each other to make sure that time off is covered by the ones remaining. We try very hard to support each other's needs, and to be truthful, the more supportive you are of other's time off, the more supportive they are of yours.
I am very lucky to work with such smart, funny, competent and caring women, and we are currently looking for a few more.
If you want to be able to be proud of what you do, hold yourself to a high standard, and work in a cooperative, casual environment doing challenging, important work, then this is the place for you.

A typical work day depending on your shift worked, you could possibly do 8-16 patients per tech. Nine out of ten times you WILL be called-in if you are taking call on one of the weekend nights, and you will most likely be there all night. The management now has all of their major modalities personnel working every other weekend. I have a lot of staff in other departments that respect me and my judgement calls. Do not expect these radiologists to teach you anything. They will come to you if they can not figure your images out, but will not praise you for your work, nor help you learn along the way, at least 95% of them here at least. I get compensated for my work pretty well. My direct supervisor is flexible in the scheduling of the department and if you need time off...that is definitely a PLUS!!

The best part of employment at Rush Copley in Patient Access would be the coworkers.  They keep you from losing your mind when things get stressful (as they do in both emergency room care and outpatient centers).  You can expect to work short frequently with no repercussions for management's pets but those who aren't brown-nosers are often threatened and written up should they become ill or have an emergency.  Manager is condescending, manipulative and often lies to employees to pin them against one another.  While earning vacation time is quite easy, being allowed to use days off is very difficult.  If you either have thick skin or work overnights, this is a decent job as it pays competitively.

The job was fairly enjoyable, continuous admits and discharges per shift. CNAs we’re lazy and complained about doing their jobs duties and expected the nurses to help them as the nurses are busy calling doctors and ensuring the patient didn’t decline. Complaints to management were never heeded as management would make baby faces when a complaint was brought to him. He never addressed the issues. Only swept it under a rug. Nurses were dedicated to ensuring patient care was a priority. At times the continuous admits and discharges for short staffing was tedious and stressed out the staff who were present. 

I started here and quickly realized this wasn't for me. 
The staff is rude to eachother and there was lots of internal drama. Being a newcomer was hard, training was sub par for such a large place. I also noticed lots of people who lacked in skills and training were put into leadership roles. I found being on the floors the best part of the job. However, I witnessed quite a few staff members taking short cuts and not following proper protocols. They are always short staffed and I ended up working a lot trying to help but felt taken advantage of in the long run. It's no wonder they pay so good, they have to in order to keep people. Shame because I had high hopes due to Rush's reputation.
