SERENITY HOSPICE CARE

I have been with Serenity Hospice Care for 9 years. This company is the most supportive, caring, patient care focused hospice in New Jersey. We are held to standards that are ethical and professional which is why there are SO MANY long term employees. Serenity does hold staff accountable for doing things incorrectly, they educate, communicate and put plans of correction into place with the support needed to succeed. There are always going to be those who do not like being held accountable or do the wrong thing and blame the company. Serenity has amazing staff, in the field and in the offices. The culture is one of inclusion and work life balance. Serenity does not micro manage, staff is hired, trained well and trusted to give the best care possible to every patient, family member and loved one. That is who we are! The company has been run by the same administrator since opening 14 years ago, there is little to no management turn over because they are all amazing at what they do and are valued. Employees stay because Serenity is supportive and cares about them, every company has turnover but Serenity's is very low! The opportunities are endless and so is the company’s success. Serenity is growing so if you want to join  the best team in hospice, please join our team! 

I've been working for Serenity Hospice for two years and after working with different companies, I can honestly say I get to come home happy and filled with purpose.

Yes, it can be stressful at time, however that is what comes in hand with high volume growth and boy are we growing!

Not only are we expanding in size from all the employees, we're expanding our ability to engage and learn. I've never seen such hardworking leadership actually care about their people.

On top of that, the opportunity for advancement is amazing. I've never seen so many in-house employees be promoted, but if you work hard and the opportunities are endless.

Working for a hospice is not easy, I see the amount of hardwork and labor our field staff put out to making our patients end of life process something that is peaceful and full of.. well serenity. 

We work together (and have fun together)  to make this company an amazing place to work.

Pros:
Flexibility with your day, scheduling (as long as there isn’t an emergency). Not a ton of oversight, so lots of independence. In-field team is great and very collaborative. Most of the job is in the field and don’t have to work with HQ/management often

Cons:
HQ/Management is very toxic. Refuse to write down or clarify policies. They will also change their policies repeatedly and not inform you, then will lecture you if you do it “wrong”. Many hints about “protecting the company” when you bring up patient concerns and encouragement not to document/report. Management plays favorites very publicly. 
There is no written training manual so training is based on the team member they assign to you. Often the assigned trainer has only been there less than a year.  And their knowledge only goes as far as the person who trained them. So if they teach you something incorrectly, that’s on you. If they forgot to teach you something, you better be able to infer it from the information around you because no one will give you the same answer. 

I would not recommend this company due to its extremely poor management. The leadership team lacks communication skills, transparency, and accountability, which creates a disorganized and frustrating environment. Decisions are often made without consulting employees or considering their input, leading to inefficiency and low morale.

The office culture is equally disappointing, with a toxic atmosphere that discourages collaboration and positivity. Instead of fostering teamwork and respect, the environment feels hostile and unsupportive, making it an unpleasant place to work.

It's clear that changes in management and company culture are urgently needed if this organization wants to thrive. Until then, I can't in good conscience recommend it to anyone seeking a professional or healthy work environment.

I wish they taking care of their employees better. Give better benefits and raises. Listen to their employees, keep communication in tact. Treat every employees the same without favoritism. Regardless their skin color, culture, language respect them. Send them to work close to their home, don't remove them from their location if there is no problem with the facility or family they work with. If the raises is past due make sure you paid them fairly and increase the time you didn't paid them. Example,  if the rajse was supposed to be given in July and the company don't give it until December, make sure you add the adjustment from those months in between. Just be fair, if you paid them December then what happened to the rest of the month that was skept. Add more benefits, like sick days, personal days, more than two weeks of vacation if you worked their more than a year.  Give them bonuses and respect seniority. 

I worked at this company hoping for a supportive environment, but instead experienced workplace harassment, poor management, and a deeply toxic culture. Leadership was unprofessional and often retaliatory, especially when concerns were raised. Discrimination was present, and management made it clear that speaking up would only make you a target. The way they spoke to staff was consistently belittling and condescending, creating a culture of fear and disrespect. I gave my best despite the conditions, but the constant stress took a toll on my mental and physical health. Eventually, I had no choice but to leave for the sake of my well-being. I would caution anyone considering employment here to proceed carefully this is not a safe or supportive workplace. No matter how hard you work, they will find a reason to tear you down instead of build you up.

Terrible orientation.  Zero support from administration.  Toxic work environment.  Honesty only gets you verbal aggression from management.  The same management that doesn’t check on you. No positive or negative feedback.  It’s sink or swim. The company expects to show you something once and you should then be proficient.  Due to my experience, I was deliberately not taught vital things I needed to know to do my job correctly.  There is no other conclusion but being set up to fail.  This doesn’t begin to cover what they think is “patient care” .  If you’re looking for a long term job this is not for you.  Zero employee appreciation.  No enncouragement at all.

A typical day working for Serenity can take you through a geographic area that includes numerous institutions as well as private patients at home. I learned quite a bit about dealing with the dying process. The workplace culture at Serenity is strictly regulated by boundaries between professions; a good training and experience in learning how to provide caretaking input appropriate to one's training. It is rarely difficult, but it can be challenging, since the chaplain deals with families of patients on a regular basis.

My experience was 100% positive at Serenity Hospice Care NJ. The office culture is very welcoming and supporting. The work is fair and the management shows continual appreciation and fairness for their staff. We were treated to breakfast, Lunch, Ice Cream trucks, food trucks, chair massages, bonuses and many emails and verbal Thank you's. I am so surprised at the negative reviews, these are definitely employees that were let go for performance issues. There are so many people that have been with the company for many years and everyone I encountered seemed happy to be there.  If I was not moving I would stay forever!!

What is the best part of working at the company?
The work environment is so friendly, more like a family environment. Love waking up to go to my job!!! They adminstration goes above and beyond to accommodate needs for both employees and patients.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
I don't have any issues, all of my experience have been positive.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Family oriented and patient centered 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
5-6 patients per day, I evaluate comfort and reach out to provider when needs arise for intervention.
