As in a lot of companies the management changed so the culture changed. More of a 1960 style. Keep plant up and running and make sure all policies was being covered, environmental, safety, quality, production. How to manage people, work with management and carry out the policies in place and how to get the most out of the people assigned to me. Management changed which made it harder to get the most out of employees. Keeping plant running full production in a older plant. Working with people and seeing them being the best they can be which pays big as far as the overall picture of the company. Hard place to work at time due to a lot of new industry around and adding to existing plants because people get some experience and then go to other places to work. A lot of new employees so the knowledge base has diminished greatly and the company does not try to keep them. Most employees do not leave because of money but because of management. This was not the case with previous management.

Good company to work for as far as benefits and pay but there is several employees through out the company in operations that have no business working in a chemical plant but did get a job only because they live locally or they have a college degree in absolutely nothing to do with any relation to the industry (ex. Kinesiology). Good work ethics and mechanical ability are skills that are often overlooked when hiring operators, there is still a lot of great operators but they are having to carry the weight of the others who can’t do their job and it’s causing animosity amongst the operators and the good employees will eventually leave. HR and or management will not fire the employees in fear of being sued despite Louisiana being an employment at will state. 

The job is very laid back and the other operators are great. Management, however, is terrible with the exception of a few guys. The plant is very new and modern but the management structure is completely outdated. The facility is getting entirely to big for the small amount of people running it. If you want to stay at operator level its a great place to be but the advancement they promise because of it being a new facility is a lie. Only a handful of day positions so your more than likely going to be working shift work your entire career unless your one of the lucky few.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Working with the Japanese engineers was an amazing experience. Given the opportunity as a first time operator was extremely interesting and fun.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Commissioning new plant, that consisted of  abnormal hours.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Clean, safe, somewhat diverse. Not many females.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Unit for the most ran itself, smoothly. Rarely experienced upsets.

The pay is awesome, the benefits are great. The hours can be quite variable and the people who greatly affect the schedule dont care about you at all. Most of management doesnt care about you at all. They wil lie, cheat, steal, forge documents, and cover up accidents. This is the worst management group I have ever worked for, hands down. High level of favoritism and hypocrisy.  Most of my co-workers are good people and work hard. The job is typically pretty easy and laid back, but at times can be very laborious and exhausting. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Absolutely nothing was good about working for this company.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The people and management was horrible.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It was horrible. If you don't come through that apprentice program they won't accept you. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Training by yourself. It wasn't bad but when it's training by committee as far as sign-off go its basically if the other operators accept you or not.

Loading 1k ton flex bags, or loading a conveyor belts with bags, and cleaning up the work station at the end of the day.
I learned Fork lift operating, OSHA safety rules
Management was normal, kept up and maintained everything nicely.
Co workers were Good, knew there jobs, and helped out a lot.
Hardest part of the job was dealing with the warehouse environment in general other then that it was easy.
completing your quota was the most enjoyable part of the job.

I love working at Shintech because it was ideal for me considering I was still a full time student and it offered me flexibility.  This company allowed me to put school as my first priority which is an example of the wonderful company culture.  I would come to work and assist throughout the office as needed.

Its not Shintech - its CB&I at Shintech- TOTAL CHAOS yet again.
no sense of direction. the only thing they had right on this job is the parking lot.  and that's to be debated. Materials spread from one end of the site to the other and no way to successfully transport it, people standing around with the hands in their pockets. No leadership,

A good place to work, the management can be very frustrating to work with, very incompetent. Very adversarial to supervisors and other employees, lots of call duty have to work a lot of your time off.
