I started out as a snack lady, but was quickly promoted to cook two months later after the first cook was fired for always running out of food and causing drama. 

My cafe manager is amazing. They help with everything whenever we’re short staffed and they’re far from a micromanager. My cafeteria recently got a new crew, so these past few months, my manager and I had to work extra hard together due to our kitchen being short staffed. My old coworkers loved calling out and were lazy. 

I haven’t called out once. I started out with a group of new hires back in August, and out of that whole group, I am the only one who lasted into the new year (and was promoted on top of that). 

This job has its moments, but it’s not that hard. However, some people make it harder for themselves because they don’t want to put the work in or they take advantage of a good work environment, and get mad and quit when they’re penalized for not showing up, not doing their work, etc. 

Lastly, I have learned from this job that the government has little care about the health and well-being of our nation’s youth based on all the mold and expired produce that my cafeteria receives from the USDA. Just saying…

This is just a HORRIBLE opportunity to work for. You’ll have to be in desperate need to work here. Management is all for themselves and don’t care to give help when needed. They are messy as heck. Managment worry about your intimate personal  life than the job. They’ll wrongfully fire you for speculation! No overtime hours. Your peers ( other food service workers ) be in your personal business . Grown peers tell live . Managment turn employees against one another or try . Management are against you and expect you to go over and beyond for the job with very little pay and NO RESPECT ! If you try to get help from HR they send you back to square one , to your manger, LIKE I CALLED HR FOR A REASON I didn’t get help already . This job don’t care about THE WORK THE JOB THEY CARE ABOUT THEMSELVES . Again They are all for self and anyone who’s MANAGER. Your hard work WILL GO UN-Noticed because they don’t care. I CAN KEEP GOING ON AND ON but you get the message. I say throw the WHOLE MANAGEMENT AWAY!!! 

Very unprofessional, no trainning, not appreciated, low pay, managers only do paperwork. Very small staff if someone calls out no back up plan. Managers talk about other employees business with other employees.
Not an honest company. Little to no feedback on anything. Every school rules varies. No understand for uncontrollable issues. No overtime pay, but get pulled into the principal office for leaving at the assigned time. No holiday pay. No incentives. It’s the higher ups not regular employees. No respect unless demanded. And it takes about a month to start and your first 3-4 pay checks will be about 3 weeks plus late. 

I had so much experience I gave it no thought to apply and work for this company..Your not paid what you are promised, management is a joke. They hire people with no experience which is great but they never train anyone. Rude awaking when I reached out to hr about how safety wasn't practiced  at my work place, they did nothing nor cared to fix anything  the manager just sits and does paper work never moved a finger to help. Pay is also a negative you never get paid what you are told. Keep a record on hours. Run 

This job is great if you are in desperate need. The pay is on the low end of average, but the workplace expectations are high. Longterm employees will clock out and continue to work to avoid overtime, management encourages employees to start work but not clock in early… the company culture that is promoted public ally is very different from what goes on behind the scenes. 

The work life balance is not great; I take work home with me to try and keep up. 

The only good part about working for SLA is the 6am-2 pm schedule...this company is horrible...no one knows what they are doing including  the kitchen manager which makes it difficult for new employees to get trained correctly..the way things are done are changed up every day and it becomes very confusing which again makes it hard to learn the job correctly. You have to count all the food everyday but the way you put it into the computer makes the counts never accurate which falls back on the new guys..run away and work somewhere else 

This job was great in nearly every sense of the word, but it has a catch: it's primarily offered to the students of the school. we had an hour-long lunch break, and the cafeteria workers didn't have enough people to man the cash registers. To remedy this the managers offered the positions to any students who were willing to give up their time in order to make a little money. For only 1 hour a day, and $100 every two weeks, I thought it reasonable to give up a bit of my time without even needing to leave school grounds to work.

SLA management is a great place to work for the extra hrs or a mom that has kids in school. Flexible hrs, and holidays and summer off. You come in before school starts to prepare breakfast, you serve children, clean and prepare for lunch, serve then clean and prep for the next morning. This job is a 180 day commitment when applying, and an easy job. If you have experience in food service then should be a breeze.

It's hard to be positive about a company that does not support its employees. Does not pay bases on your experience.
It is nice to have a school year schedule. 
I"ve worked in school lunch for 30 years and I always got paid for major holidays, offered sick time and personal time. Full time employees are offered med insurance but it only covers 10% of your medical bills.

















































I have been in the restaurant business for nearly 30 yrs and this by far is the best career opportunity I've had. I love working M-F 6-2 weekends off.  I open and close my own kitchen as a cafe mgr / chef. No late night calls or weekend calls. Life has been awesome. Don't have to work late unless I need to do something. Meals are served at the same time everyday. Good staff to work with and the new area managers are awesome.
