STRUCTURAL COMPONENT SYSTEMS

A typical work day---A typical work day for the employees is coming in to work knowing what is expected of them and completing those tasks successfully with the help of their PLS as necessary.  We are all on the same team and get through problems as one.

Learned---I have learned to view issues from both sides of the fence and to be open minded until I know all the information necessary to make a good decision.  We put a lot of time and effort into training.  Experience is appreciated, but not necessary.  We will get you all the training you need.

Management---SCS managers / management have made leaps and bounds to make this company great.  We care about our employees and are willing to work with them as needed.  We are all people and we will all have difficulties that will be faced at some point in our lives.  Bottom line is, we care and will help if we can.

Workplace Culture---We try very hard to promote great workplace culture.  We remove those that go against the grain and are negative drawing others down with them whom would without that person do great and succeed.  We are family oriented and definitely take into account outside of work variables before making decisions and moves with our employees.  It's a fun team based atmosphere.  We have a lot of great people!  

The hardest part of the job---Nothing I can think of.  We all come to work and are expected to perform our work day duties to the best of our abilities. We are expected to perform well and give 100%.

The most enjoyable part of the job---The people I work with are the greatest pat of my job.  They let me know I am appreciated and am doing a good job.  They have helped me work through some of my own issues and become a better person.  They also take the time to help me improve as they do all their employees.  I in turn pass this on to the people whom I oversee.

Typical workday Would be unloading lumber unit from rail, cars, then tagging And putting all units in the Warehouse management system in staging lumber unit and dedicated areas where they go, then camping up the rail cars, making sure they can be taken by Pacific Union and then usually after all that you go home. The hardest part about the job is unloading the rail cars if you do not have any experience or any skill when it comes to grabbing units with no bands on them I have seen plenty of people try to take your unit off of the rail car and it collapse everywhere. As far as I know I am one of the only people that’s taking a unit with no bands on it completely off the rail car without it, collapsing at all I taught myself and learned how to do so with already years of experience with forklift operating as For on the other hand management is good. They mainly only manage you if you cannot be managed yourself the job does consist of you being able to manage yourself as much as you can ensuring that you can still get the job done. And workplace culture very nice very unique and very pleasant to be around and in my opinion all the associates mainly overnight crew is the best part and the most enjoyable thing about being at Structural Component Systems along with daytime associates as well in a hole entire company is basically one giant home away from home and one Giant family that actually feels like family and actually makes you feel as if they care I had to give the company a one out of five star count I’ll give them a 10 star

As a remote designer, I generally have enough flexibility during the day to deal with various responsibilities and events on behalf of my children. On the other hand, there are times I’ve had to work [very] late to complete tasks since my office is at home. I heavily rely on self-management to get projects completed on time. I appreciate the confidence SCS has in me to do my job and not micro-manage my daily activities. 

Even though I don’t work in the office, I often need to coordinate products with other designers via e-mail, phone calls, etc. I generally consider those I work with are friendly and cooperative, resulting in a proficiently functional team. 

The hardest part of my job is coping with the stress that may branch from an inevitable overloaded schedule. Fortunately, I also have a realistic and sympathetic supervisor who appropriately supports me when things get overwhelming.   

The most enjoyable part of this job is the challenge of accomplishing excellence every day. I continuously learn something new or find more efficient and effective ways to design. Assignments can be very complex, yet I optimistically confront the challenge directly; to do even better on the next project. 

The opportunity as a structural designer at SCS gives me an outlet to expand my mental/spatial capacity, solve puzzles, foresee issues, and be responsible for extensive residential and industrial developments in a prestigious industry.  


As a remote employee, I am still expected to be in my office during regular business hours to communicate with the plant or customers. But as salary position there is some flexibility, while meeting weekly production goals. 
Having to address issues over the phone or by e-mail has helped my communication skills.  A family run business, but the most professional I've worked for in the truss industry. I receive any support that I need to accomplish my daily tasks, very much a team atmosphere. HR does a good job with communication and trying to foster a "family" climate. Celebrating personal and company achievements, and hosting the occasional company wide gathering.  
The most difficult part of the job? I would say is working on a complicated plan under a time crunch while maintaining accuracy and quality.  The most enjoyable part of my job? Accomplishing those difficult tasks. 

SCS is a very Diverse company. They have a good workplace culture that is relaxed. You work hard,  be safe and do your job.  I believe this company rewards hard workers. They pay their employees Very well. They are quick to give raises for those who aren't afraid to earn it. Management does recognize those who work hard and earn their pay.  Safety is First here. Leads/Supervisors will make sure you have what you need. You can talk to leads/Supervisors anytime. Very relaxed with an open door policy.  Some of the work, Oversized loads can be stressful. Forklift work on uneven ground, loading and unloading can be a challenge. Just take it slow and safe.  4 day workweek with 3 off. Drivers average 50 to 60 hours. M-F. No Saturdays mandatory, but the hours are there if you want them.   Over All-Great Pay. Relaxed work environment-If You do your job. Be safe, work safe.

You’re paid decent. But only because it’s compensation to deal with the horrible management. No sense in an HR department when upper management is controlling them. Literally defeats the purpose of an HR department. Your immediate supervisors are also micromanaged by manager. I’ve never worked for a company that didn’t rely on the majority of ideas coming from the employees. The ones that can improve a company the most because they are around it all day everyday. But guess who comes up with the ideas and has them implemented. You guessed it . The owner of the company handed the reins off to a micromanager. It’s sad really. There is so much potential in this company but is held back by one mind. My best advise based in companies I’ve worked for in the past is either get rid of management  Or divide areas of the company up between managers so it’s not controlled by one person.

This is a well run small family owned business. I was hired as a remote truss designer. They have provided everything I need to work from home. Most of the customers don't even know I'm not in Nebraska. I love being able to work from home and not have to drive in Atlanta traffic. The management is great and really seem to care about their employees. I love the "can do" attitude. They really strive to make the customer happy which makes my dealings with the many repeat customers much easier.  The work is challenging because I mostly do Commercial jobs but the days fly by. The only thing I could say negative, and it really isn't a negative, is that I do miss having coworkers to have casual conversations with during the day but it makes it much easier to get your job done too.

I really enjoyed working at SCS. I was a truck driver there and honestly had a great experience. The routes were reasonable, the equipment was kept in good shape, and I always felt respected as part of the team. What really made the job stand out was my boss—he was awesome. Super supportive, easy to talk to, and always made sure we were taken care of. It makes a big difference when your boss actually cares and treats you like a human being, not just a number. The people at SCS were great too—just a solid group who worked hard and helped each other out. I only left because I moved out of state, but if I ever had the chance to go back, I definitely would. If you're a driver looking for a good place to land, I’d highly recommend SCS.

It was a Good Company to work for. You can make Good money from the start.  I wish they had better health care. I also was in an older truck that kept breaking down, had to wait to get it fixed before I could finish my job that day. Long hours and bypassing scales in a beater with a heater with a half stack and a quarter fender that was rusty and fell off some where in Iowa. . Also the heater quit in December.   Now they have plenty of new trucks.   Not sure if they will use the bait and switch tactic for new drivers like they did me.  New truck for a month....Then a beater with a heater.   I would've stayed if the equipment was good back then, but I still believe it would be a good place to work.  Good people, Great Pay, adjustable start times.

Working from home as a remote truss designer has the advantage of not having the distractions of a typical office setting. Occasionally you'll miss seeing/working with your coworkers in person, but any time you need a question answered or advice on a project, help is just a quick phone call away and everyone is always courteous, friendly, and happy to help. The management team has been the best of any company that I've ever worked for; they've built one of the best truss operations in the business. There are always challenges when it comes to design, but these challenges also make the job enjoyable (it would get pretty monotonous if everything was just "cut and paste).
