My typical day at work was correcting everyone else's DAILY mistakes.  A lot of the time these were the same "mistakes" being made over & over again; in reality, it was just laziness & an "I don't care" attitude--all by people who claim to have been in the Hospitality business for years.

I did, however, learn a new system which I can now include on my resume.  This is the ONLY positive thing I can say about the company.

Management was USELESS & completely unwilling to see anything other than their own side of everything.  They were ALWAYS right about everything (even when they weren't) & on occasion were even rude & disrespectful to clients (which I often heard during my overnight shift).  Though they CLAIMED to have an "open door" policy, this was not the case.  They would not make themselves available to me because they did not want to pay overtime (which would be the only way I could address concerns, questions, etc. based on my shift).  They had their favorites & a "you don't need to know" attitude which they encouraged their favorites to practice as well.  Due to my shift I was the "you" that didn't need to know.

My co-workers, along with adopting the "you don't need to know" theory, would routinely refuse to perform all the duties of their job description.  The phone would often ring multiple times (something I observed quite a bit while I was "handing off the shift") & were not willing or able to multitask.

The hardest part of the job was the parking situation.  Clients complained on a nightly basis there was not adequate parking.

The most enjoyable part of the job was my shift.  I did not need work/life balance.

My experience in this workplace has led me to recognize the ease with which one can become fatigued. The inconsistent scheduling hampers the ability to achieve a balance between work and personal life. It appears that profit is prioritized over employee well-being, leading to a pervasive sense of pressure within the department. The excitement I once felt about going to work has been replaced by a sense of burden, making my time here exhausting and disheartening. I have found myself in tears on multiple occasions, feeling overwhelmed by the expectations set forth by management, to the point where I feel the need for therapeutic support. The absence of an on-site manager exacerbates the situation, as the management team is often difficult to reach. Requesting paid time off or calling in sick has become a source of anxiety, as it often feels as though it is not a right but rather an imposition. Approval for such requests is frequently delayed until the approaching date, disrupting personal plans and often resulting in cancellations. It seems that I am subject to micromanagement even in the absence of a manager, and the burden of making simple errors only adds to the stress of the environment. Perhaps I am simply fatigued by the hospitality industry, or perhaps this particular establishment is simply draining.

A typical day at work is get your cart ready stocked with linen and soap, shampoos, conditioners, etc.. in a timely manner. when cleaning the rooms all must change sheets on bed and out in fresh clean towels in bathroom. dusting all furniture, and vacuuming all rooms everyday. Usually have about 10-20 rooms a day depending on business. I have learned a lot my time here, how to clean properly and making sure there is no hair in bathrooms. I've learned that most guest that come back repeatedly, how they like their rooms cleaned and what kind of extras the will need. You can learn a lot just by how the person is and how long they plan to stay! The management is awesome, they are always there if I need help or if I can't help the customer myself then they are always their for back up. The hardest part is that its physically hard because there's a lot of moving, bending, lifting etc.. but mentally its easy remembering what goes in the rooms everyday. The enjoyable part of the job is the wonderful people you work with. I love everyone of my co workers and we truly are the meaning behind team work.

* A typical work day was always positive and up beat.  They made you look forward to coming to work each day.
* I learned the hospitality business very quickly and efficiently .  Coming from retail, it was a new and exciting learning experience for me.  I learned the ins and outs of each hotel I worked in.  I learned how the front desk operates, operations, housekeeping and even some maintenance.  
*The management at Sage were amazing.  They always had an open door policy and wanted you to learn.  They were looking for the best in you and brought it out.
* My coworkers were great.  They were always there when needed and treated each other like family.  
* The hardest part of the job was handling those irate guests.  Using the LEARN model that Marriott provided was a huge help and 9 out of 10 times, turned the bad situation into a good one.
* The most enjoyable part of the job was working with people and meeting different people each and every day.  Hearing the stories people had to tell about their trips or just lending an ear to those who needed someone to listen.

My managers & team were an absolute delight, I felt appreciated by my managers and benefits were great. However, HR does not know how to appropriately handle staff issues or seem to understand their role of managing employees as a whole, I’ve seen time & time again diligent, hardworking employees reach out to HR about either professional or personal issues affecting their work and no matter what they get targeted by HR if they’re deemed a “problem” until they quit or find a way to get them fired. Whether it be unreasonable expectations for working hours, complaints of toxic work environment or needing family leave, the moment you stand up for yourself or others a target is placed on your back. The people outside of HR were 10/10, and this company could truly blossom if it weren’t for their mismanagement of the people behind their employees.

There is so many bad aspects of this hotel it's hard to know where to start. Managers are not trained properly therefore they have no idea what they are doing or how to guide, coach, council, train, discipline employees. There is a lot of favoritism by managers and those employees they like can do what they want while others cannot so a discriminatory atmosphere. They have no idea what progressive discipline is & fire people with no documentation of anything. HR does not do their job and so things are not handled right. They operate all departments on a skeleton crew so when someone calls off it creates a huge problem for all. Management & the owners main focus is how much money they can save & sacrifice quality due to that.  Sage treats their employees really bad & at this hotel literally there is not 1 perk you receive. The pay is all given to management and the workers are the ones who get things done but receive bottom of the barrel wages. I would not recommend Sage to anyone.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The people who worked under me were the hardest working people I've worked with.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
No work/life balance.  I felt under appreciated and always felt I didn't have the staff I needed to do the job.  Felt that all the higher ups always took vacations, but when It comes to the kitchen, we couldn't really take any time off, or it was hard to know when we would get a day off.  Had to work long hours due to being understaffed and banquets being piled up during busy months.  

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Didn't really feel like there was a good environment in the company. Everyone complained about the hotel management and how they are disconnected to what's going on under them.  They don't have a sense of urgency when it comes to complaints from the staff.  It's hard to get any response for an urgent matter.   

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Come in to work early, prep for banquets, paperwork, check inventory, clean, organize. Leave work late due dinner banquets.

Horribly understaffed with a high turnover. They know very well they expect too much from their administrative on up associates with insufficient pay. I was hired as an HR Coordinator with the responsibilities of a Director, but with the pay of a Clerk. The GM very well knew I was non-exempt, however she'd still slam me with emails and requests she expected me to get done while off the clock as if I were exempt salaried. GM of the property was two faced and will suck up to corporate in order to save herself from the shady things she does. When voicing my concerns to corporate, they didn't take me seriously therefore there was no change. This job caused me a great deal of mental stress that led to nights of no sleep. Even associates would mention out of concern I looked tired and beat down. I had no choice but to leave right before I had a mental breakdown from everything being piled on me without enough resources.  Do NOT work for Sage.

I worked here for almost a year. No supervisors in the beginning  management barely around popped in a few times barely available very dismissive and non nonchalant when it comes to issues. Not welcoming at all. When they finally hired a supervisor they hired someone who had no idea what they were doing which hindered you rather than helped you! You're basically on a sinking ship..  Communication is non existent management never helped directly with any guest issues, everything had to be handled by ourselves and when it went wrong everything fell on you. So much stress for no reason but the workers here were wonderful they were the reason I stayed for as long as I did.Absolutely no room for advancement from my short time here they will look outside before they promote internally especially at the front desk. I've seen it happen multiple times. The only thing I miss about this place is the people I worked with. If you do chose to apply here make it a stepping stone or a part time job. This place it wasn't horrible the pay was nice but I'm happy I left.
