Salemtowne is a wonderful place to work. I am surrounded with quality staff who takes pride in what they do. A typical work day begins at 9am and ends around 7:30pm. We are a CCRC that provides all levels of care to our residents. I supervise the Dining Services department which consist of 5 dining rooms, 55 staff members, 3 cook to order kitchens and a main production kitchen. We provide 3 meals a day to all residents but we also have a café that has food available to residents as well as staff all day long. The most enjoyable part of my day is serving the residents. They are the reason I love my work so much. The hardest part of my job is trying to fully staff my team. We just transitioned into hiring a new CEO. The former CEO put a hiring freeze on all departments which caused our department to be under staffed, even though we were $180,000 under budget for the year. Things have gotten better since the freeze has been lifted but it is still challenging finding the right people to continue the success we have had in the past. I am currently taking an on line course to become a Certified Dietary Manager with The University of North Dakota.

A typical day for me starts with a cup of coffee and clocking into work. I get my assignment and I start work immediately( 6:45am). I begin by getting residents up and bathed, dressed, and fed. Shortly after breakfast I do a round( toileting) with patients. At this time I also take care of any personal care such as, hair, oral, medicated lotions, and vital signs. Most days by the time that task is completed I have to get the residents ready for lunch by setting up the dinning room and delivering food to residents. Usually after lunch the residents take naps so I assist them to bathroom and bed. Afterwards I chart on the residents and their progress that day and I report any changes to the team leader and supervisor. I give a final report to the NA(nurse assistant) coming on to shift after me and I am a free to be dismissed.

Management was the proble!!!! High turn over rate in that department which made things hectic l...I felt un trained for my position and then I was constantly thrown under the bus by Management.. I work there 2yrs with 4 DONs and the one that is present there now has NO empathy for people or patients I saw it for myself...I actually liked our Administrator however he has a lot to learn about true Loyalty and taking good care of his staff in order to produce a more productive atmosphere...Overall Im thankful for my learning experience and wish nothing but the best for this company.. I am Actually much happier and more qualified in my same position somewhere else.

People but every job has that just focus on you and your task and you can’t go wrong

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Everybody is so friendly . The community for the residents is very nice . If an employee has attitude I could never ever tell you because I don’t see that here. Every nurse I have ran across is very attentive 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Driving , running errands, taking residents to appointments for the day or wherever they request . Check the vehicles to make sure they run accordingly and be on time and communicate

What is the best part of working at the company?
Wonderful place to work. Staff is amazing and helpful and the residents are kind and appreciative to the staff. So much respect and peace. I love being apart of the Salemtowne family. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The inconsistent hours for the Home Care department.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Friendly, peaceful, and respectful 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I work in the Home Care department so sometimes I will be helping residents with daily living activities in their home/apartment or accompany them to doctor appointments and/shopping trips.

Management was completely out of touch with staff, I felt I was in a position that was learn as you go. Orientation had nothing to do with my job description and when things didn't go well No one was willing to help... Management stabbed staff in the back to get information about day to day operations it became real wicked there..To top it off the CEOs daughter was the Assistant Administrator a real conflict of interest and she didn't care about staff or patients! The DON talks to staff like animals (very Disrespectful)... This would be Nice environment to work if Management team was completely replaced!

Typical day can be stressful due to not having support from upper management to implement improvements. The CEO was supposed to meet with staff from every department, which sadly did not happen for me.  The culture has become two faced and is not transparent. I learned that we are all just a body in a chair and replaceable. 
The best part of this job was assisting the residents. 

I started a little over two years ago and the residents make the job fun. I have worked in almost every building and each one is filled with staff and residents who care about making the experience great. The benefits are wonderful, and the expectations are clear. This job is for people who want to make a difference and are ready to help.

The residents. The fact that there’s enough money to have supplies.

It’s a very toxic environment. People in management are clueless about the nursing home

Toxic and negative. Management is clueless.

I loved this place! It was definitely a great place to do my intern hours. I enjoyed being around welcoming people who made you feel like although you were training that you were still just as important. I especially liked all of the help that I was offered and all of the lessons I was taught. The greatest part of being at this facility was being with the residents and being able to care for them in such a clean and organized place.
