It is a good job if you are in school (undergraduate/graduate) and you want experience (that would be the only pro I can give you). On a daily basis, you do not have a set agenda and normally you are thrown different tasks and visits last minute. There are times were I feel disrespected by case managers who only used me as a means to get out of certain tasks. Be ready to drive; that was the main thing I did in this position to the point where I ran my car down to the ground. The reimbursement is not worth it and you can find another organization willing to reimburse you fully for the gas and damages done to your vehicle. They have no plan instilled if you as an employee, get into an accident (which I have been in two). Management does not care about the people under them (UPPER management), They are barely ever present and are not inclusive to newer employees. Do not even get me started on other offices using me for coverage when they had a case aide at their location , but once I needed help, no one wanted to help me. The environment was emotionally draining and took a serious toll on me where I eventually became burnt out. Other works felt the need to butt into your cases and make disrespectful remarks even though they have an entirely different role and are a part of a different sector within the organization. Management does not have your back when it comes to being absolutely screamed at by parents and often management works behind your back and makes decisions without you knowing. Going back to the burn out, I tried putting in 2 weeks of PTO to heal and focus on my mental health. They struggled to fully approve my PTO because there was no one to cover my visits and almost declined my PTO that Friday before I planned being out of office not my problem. It seemed like anyone can take PTO, but me since they burdened my workload  and refused to hire more workers to help alleviate other workers. This company is a joke. The client's are barely the problem, it is the entire organization.

It's really sad that Samaritas is run so poorly. I worked in the refugee foster care program and absolutely loved the work I was doing, most of my coworkers, and the youth I worked with. The company itself is incapable of giving respect to their employees. They manipulate and overwork staff. Management doesn't hire individuals based on how capable they are of leading, planning, inventing innovative problem solving ideas, or having free thought. The employees Samaritas likes are the ones who follow orders. Samaritas has chosen to keep multiple employees who have been caught on camera doing inappropriate things. When something is reported to management, it is ignored. I would even go as far to say the people in charge of the youth home I worked in could be abusive. Yelling at youth, using hostility toward ESL speakers, and not using a person-centered approach. Don't work here if you want a life. They will over work you. If you give an inch (I can work Monday-Friday) they will take a mile (scheduling you to work doubles without asking you). Your effort to improve the employee satisfaction and work culture will be wasted here. If you want a job that will have endless hours, pay $11 and not provide any pay raises, this is the job for you. The only pro is the youth who live in these homes. They are good and kind and funny. They will light up your life. You might even find a coworker who you can rely on.   You will likely have to work holidays. You may not be able to request days off or receive approval for days off.

The company prefer to pat executive levels on each others back above director level, do not give positive re-enforcement, not give job evaluations, do not know when an employee is on vacation, working on vacation, does not know where the tasks to be completed or when an employee is dedicated and asset to a company.  cancel departmental meetings, no team meetings, Does not communicate well along with giving false dead-lines.  VPs cannot budget correctly for their departments - forecasting or planning.  Rather pay for expensive application support for $210.00/hour and not keep/budget the HRIS Analyst position with a rate of less than $50.00/hour.  Turn over rate is horrible.  Rather not hire core employees to run the HR department, just hire field people - no department support for processes.  Rather give a new CEO a car allowance then put money to good use.  The board decisions and tier level management are not in tune with the job market and their staff.  Junior high - rumors are the highest priority and not the success of levels below director's level. No hiring internally mostly externally.  Prefer adding unnecessary levels software to the company causing issues.  No disaster recovery.  IT department not supportive with internal/external customers.

Let's start with the good. You will learn A LOT. I experienced such a strong growth on a clinical level, and I learned to diagnose and work through clinical interpretations very quickly. It contributed a lot to my work as a therapist.

The bad: This job is exhausting and stressful. You will be managed by supervisors that are also exhausted and stressed. You will not get paid what you deserve, and you will work well over what you are being compensated for. How much time you have is largely based on how fast and accurately you can write, and no one really has time to adequately train you how to do it. - See 2nd sentence. This is less a reflection on the company itself, and much more a reflection on how the state/government values those that work with vulnerable populations. 

The ugly: While here, I experience very poor communication between management and staff. There is very little emphasis on self-care - suggesting to "make sure you do it" but not giving you the time or flexibility is not helpful. I learned after leaving that the entire structure was extremely toxic for me. You cannot work in such a tight team with leadership that does not know how to directly address issues, and communicate in a healthy way that does not demean your staff. "That's just who I am" is not an excuse. 

Working for this company is very stressful. A typical work day is fast paced and one is constantly typing, taking phone calls or attending to clients on a scheduled or walk-in basis. There is also travel involved. 

I learned how to write extremely detailed reports and assessments. 

Management is not fair or experienced. For the most part, management is young and fails to know how to answer questions, navigate the computer system or handle crisis situations. Management is partial and shows favoritism. They are not fair in their practices and some employees get away with providing  poor service and incomplete paperwork. 

The hardest part of the job is the fact that there are no clear cut instructions for most job duties. The case managers are expected to work in several different counties, each operating differently. The computer system is a disaster and often does not work properly.

The most enjoyable part of this job is the personal and professional freedom given to case workers to manage their own schedule and outside office appointments. There was some flexibility with time spent in the office. At times, workers were permitted to work from home.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Too much to list. You are given a heavy case load, you are responsible for client’s employment, housing,benefits,food,immigration, etc 
The clients were wonderful, no complaints there, but the organization itself was horrible. They don’t care about their employees. Constant pressure, favoritism , lack of boundaries  and professionalism, guidance was difficult to obtain, often you’re “on your own” until you can figure it out for yourself. Supervisor would pile more work on the hardest workers. Higher up the ladder they only care how the organization looks on paper. Burnout is inevitable, and when you do, they don’t care unless they still need something from you. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Absolutely toxic. Favoritism, no boundaries in the workplace, meanness, bullying. The office environment itself is disorganized and chaotic, also the fundamentals like working internet and printer RARELY worked. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Juggling my own work while being called away to online meetings that were rarely productive. Often given other people’s work piled on top of my own. Hustling to meet deadlines.

Would never send a relative, would never refer someone to work here. Lots of drama ppl focus on anything but residents, caddy workers who do what they think is right not what is outlined in guidelines. State run or not. People who shouldn’t be giving orders do anyway. No respect. No logic used here and NO sound decision making. Anyone in their right mind knows ratio 1:12 is bad but sometimes it’s more and that’s APPALLING. Just what’s best to keep this sinking ship afloat. If they have to lie to people, deceive, or cheat people they will. Residents also get their fair share of abuse. If you are really a good worker and care about what you do don’t work here. Values definitely not Christian if they have values at all they serve alcohol Friday and do church sundays. Doesn’t align with any real morals and a feeding ground. Hard to get a break. People get away with cutting corners and no one takes complaints seriously. If you are a REAL professional with knowledge and follow procedure DONT work here because once you try to address a wrong it’s all down from there. Favorites are picked and real despicable behavior is swiped under the rug. It would do lssm GR some good if they had a walk through at an unexpected time on audit day. This place is digging themselves a hole going to he11 in a hand basket.

I've always enjoyed the elderly, and my position utilized my personal and professional skills.  I felt the organization lost it's way over c19 concerning the skilled nursing facilities.  No one should be making any related decisions until they have read "The Real Anthony Fauci".
Blind adherence to the edicts of an outside organization led to an isolating treatment of residents, especially those who left for dialysis, and returned to never-ending quarantines.  The administrator is a big part of how well, or how poorly, such facilities operate, and much, though not all, of the grief brought upon the residents by such policies can be laid at the feet of such.  In the defense of those that make decisions that create stress and anxiety for residents and employees, they are simply capitulating to the demands of those over them.  But they do capitulate, because most of them know better...they simply cave.  They do not want to give in, but they do.  Those in health care sometimes become a little like ladies of the night, they end up doing things that they know are not right...but they still do them, for the money.  Many people think they do not have any power concerning such matters, but usually we all do what we chose to do.

A typical day at work has you seeing clients, filling out paperwork and writing reports, supervising parenting time, and attending court hearings. 

I've fulfilled many roles at LSSM and there were pros and cons to all of them. Many positions at LSSM are flexible, allowing for some work from home time (it is encouraged when the roads are bad). In licensing you are expected to work weekends regularly and teach in front of a crowd. 

The hardest part of my job has been burnout. In adoption, you are consistently bringing your work home and will go weeks without having a night off from your caseload in order to stay on top of things. The best part of my job has been the relationship with coworkers, foster families, and foster kids. You don't make an impact on all, but you do make an impact on a few. 

LSSM has a very generous time off plan, with you earning 8 hours of paid time off for every 2 weeks worked. You can easily accrue over 3 weeks of time off in little time and if you give 4 weeks notice when you leave the job, whatever you haven't used is paid to you.

I was at samaritas for 2 months shy of a year. The entire time I was there, I witnessed management threatening people's licenses for very minute things. Such as a call light being on for over 10 minutes. When you are the only aide in the rehab unit that's close to full, it's almost impossible if not completely impossible to have call light times all under ten minutes. I also was pregnant and the administrator and nurses tried to force me to work with residents who had shingles. The management didnt care about their employees. you rarely were able to take a break let alone a lunch. But they docked your pay even if you let them know you were unable to take it. We constantly worked short but to them we had adequate staff. I sometimes would have 16 people to take care of at once. They didnt care about the background of the residents. One time they hauled a man in with shackles and it took 3 big police officers to get him to his room. He was threatening to blow our effing heads off. Mind you he was young enough and with it enough to know better. We had violent residents constantly. This place is a joke. I definitely was glad to quit.
