A typical day at Sammons was answering more than 70 call per day.  Handling customer, broker and stock holder questions either via phone or email.  Processing all requests for payoffs, address changes, reallocations, policy changes and any other requests made.  Going into this job I had no knowledge of any annuity products.  I was able to learn all of the annuity products, guidelines and legalities in a very short time.  I was even awarded w/ a bonus of $150.00 for being the only person to complete all the tests in less than a month and scoring 98% and above and all of them. 
Management at Sammons was wonderful.  They were patient, helpful, understanding, kind and great teachers.  Sammons culture as a whole was outstanding as well.  They continually had team building meetings.  Classes not only for product knowledge, but how to better yourself. Like accepting change, being responsible and accountable for your actions.  Understanding others.  Keeping a happy and positive attitude in stressful situations and so many others. I didn't find any part of my job there to be difficult. That being said the most stressful time to do the job was around tax season. That was just due to the amount of clients, brokers and others that had needs to be met in a very short amount of time due to tax time.  The best part of working there was consistently helping others. The team I worked w/ and the overall company.

I began my CAREER with Sammons about 5 years ago.  I say CAREER, because every other occupation I had prior to working at Sammons felt more like a JOB.  From the moment I stepped into the building, I felt safe/secure in the environment.  I felt like I could work at Sammons until retirement, without any fear of losing my job.  The company culture is second to none, they have a Committee that is dedicated to fostering a community where employee-owners learn together, inspire one another and create value for the success of the organization.  The work/life balance is amazing, half-days on Fridays (early start to the weekend), casual dress code including jeans and sometimes shorts.  Everyone, including management and senior leaders truly care about you as a person, and your professional development with the company.  The people I work with have become like family to me.  The organization has four shared core values of Accountability, Openness, Integrity, and Respect.  Other organizations talk the talk, but Sammons Walks the walk when it comes to their Mission, Vision, and Values.  Sammons is also very involved in the community, with volunteer opportunities and generous giving.  Excellent place to work!

During my eight years there, the Company grew significantly, and the culture also changed . As the Company grew, the focus shifted more more towards growth and "efficiencies" and less on the Company values of Integrity, Openness, Accountability, and Respect. There have been a lot of changes recently in management, and  a lot of people were let go at the end of the year. As  a  result, there have been significant work life balance challenges, and the Company culture took a  big hit.  The pay there is significantly lower than their competitors and although they like to talk about "total compensation", the ESOP payout has decreased in recent years, and the bonuses are no longer what they used to be - lower payouts and harder to get. There are still a  lot of good people that work there. I  hope things take a  turn for the better.

The culture was great, the benefits were great, the schedule was great. There were many great things about this company, the only drawbacks were the job itself and the equipment given to do the work could have been a lot better. Older computer systems and inefficient process systems made the job way more difficult than it needed to be. They offered work from home but that meant you would have to compress the work you do in office on 3 monitors down to one small laptop. The work from home is only part time or minimal at best, still requiring to go in office majority of the work week. 
I noticed a lot of encouragement to promote new ideas of making things better but no follow through whatsoever. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Decent pay and good benefits. I enjoy the team i work on and have good health insurance, however you have to have an HSA because there are only high deductible plans offered.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Outside of the immediate team I work on, no one talks to you. They are very unfriendly and closed off. If push it, and you do talk to people, you can’t trust anyone. They will twist things and use it against you to advance themselves. Trust no one.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
They tout the company culture, but it’s all BS. Trust no one! Just show up do your job and enjoy the pay

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
You are pressured to join different groups or councils, but you won’t have the time. So don’t bother.

Sammons Financial Group is the best-kept secret in the financial services industry. An industry leader in product innovation and life and annuity sales. What stands out about SFG is the smart leadership, and an inclusive, supportive work environment. The culture is top-notch, and I have worked for many companies in my 30-year career. This is hands down the best place I have found. Privately held means we are all employee-owners. 

Middle management is lackadaisical and does their best to impede any ambitions of entry-level employees. Harassment from middle management is just subtle enough to fly under the radar. If you're not a part of the social clubs, you will never advance in this company. You can have most of the best analytics in your field and still get told you're bad or average at best. Management will tell you that being belittled and harassed by customers/clients is expected of you. The pageantries during meetings are uplifting just enough to string you along until you are vested, which is the only genuine benefit, to which then you upgrade your career elsewhere.

With early out Fridays year round, financials set on a long earnings game, and great people, Sammons is a great work environment.  All employees are treated fairly and there are plenty of opportunities for advancement. 

The hardest part of the job is playing catchup with some of our peer companies technically, but with the customer service focus, the tech is coming along.

The most enjoyable part is the friendly people.  The culture is warm and inviting for new folks and they work hard to continue those overtures.

I like the company the ESOP program is wonderful. My only issue and it is a big one is balancing life outside of work. They aren't flexible when it comes to unscheduled time off. You are required to give 48 hrs notice. This would be fine if you don't get sick or don't have kids. You get 4 occurrences a year. An occurrences is when you call in and don't schedule with in 48 hours in advance, even if you have PTO available. If you get 4 in a year you can be terminated. This causes a lot of stress on working families. People come to work sick all the time just so they can save these for when their kids get sick.

I was an intern at Sammons Financial. I got experience working in a variety of departments in the actuarial department. They were very organized and kept me very busy. I learned a lot!

Everyone I worked with was quite young at high up jobs. Advancement opportunities were very noticable. A group of my coworkers invited me to play cards every day at lunch with them which was really fun! Sammons is a great place to work! 

The culture at Sammons is also great. I had a senior lunch at an intern with managers at Sammons Financial about once a week.
