For the few years I worked here, there were a lot of staff turnovers. The common knowledge was that, they were let loose. I ran as fast as I could as I felt like I was next on the chopping block. I felt like I was targeted, like my ex-colleagues. And I just got out right in time. Another one was fired, months after I left. 

At staff meetings, suggestions by staff are rudely denied by manager. Meetings often focused on staff who made mistake, embarrassing them and when someone dares to defend the person being bullied, he himself is also criticized. 

When an issue is brought to the attention of the manager or even up to the higher ups, employee will be seen as trouble-maker and the administration will be watching your every move waiting for you to make a mistake, then threaten to or "hint on" firing you.

Even after a year of leaving, my colleagues, who are still working there are asking me to write a letter telling how I was harassed, to support them on their rally against the manager and are AGAIN filing a complaint to the higher ups.

Lots of Nepotism too, especially in the administration (bestfriends slash neighbors, cousins, daughter-in-laws to father-in-laws, mother-daughter), thus workplace unfair politics and favoritism.

You have been warned.

The hardest part was there is Not enough help, CNA’s disappear, couldn’t find them a lot of the time, most try to be helpful, however, if they don’t like you it will make it break your day. The charge nurses can’t help usually, they have their own patient load. The nurse to patient ratio and acuity was not safe at times, however I feel most of the staff is supportive, they will help if possible depending on their workload and who is charge nurse for the day.  The most enjoyable aspect was going home and having a stretch off once in a while, that way you can take a little vacation without using PTO. It takes a while to accumulate PTO.  For the most part management seems to be good. It is the same, if they do not like you, there will be problems and the nurse will know it. One ends up leaving due to it being miserable, I have known some nurses who quit because of management. It basically becomes an uncomfortable environment for them and they leave. I have known nurses who complain about others (nurses) and based on the complaints, the outcome can be biased. 

Typical work day:
7 am: clock in and start making phone calls to arrange transport around the hospital, start getting patients and transferring them from their hospital bed to a gurney or wheelchair, find their nurse (Good luck) to document form and disconnect IV/monitors, aid in trasnferring patient. Wait for nurse for average of 15 minutes, meanwhile getting phone calls that there are stat patients that need to be transported from ER or ICU right now, meanwhile more patients are requesting to be transported. Keep transporting usually with not rest or breaks, not even lunch until 7pm. 

What I learned:
SJRMC is a busy place. Staff seem overworked, my job especially. Staff are not very willing to help other staff. Don't work at a hospital unless you are a doctor or someone who does not directly have contact with patients such as administration. Go to school and get a good education to get a better job, otherwise you will end up pushing stretchers around a hospital for 12 hours with no breaks and living in a van down by the river!

Typical day at work would be pulling charts for the days procedures, ie, day surgery, radiology, while registering patients that came in for lab work and other clinical procedures, When a day surgery patient came in, I would pre-register them and collect any copays. When the flow would slow down, I would check my schedule and check which patients had which insurances, and verified insurances and also obtained prior authorizations if needed. All of this is done, while answering the phone too. We had a number of managers come in and out of our department so it was kind of hard to adjust to. The hardest part of my job was getting through to insurance companies. Some days, I wouldn't be able to reach them, or get an authorization, and the patient would show up for their procedure. The most enjoyable part of my job would be the different duties we were tained in and got to do. We were also trained in the ER also.

Specific to the radiology department:
The hiring process is poor, they are severely understaffed and everyone is overworked, they hardly give any raises (maybe every 5 years), the management in radiology is very poor, it is a learning institute for radiography students yet everyone but the clinical instructor seems to deal with the students, workplace bullying is often overlooked, there is no consistency. 
They put you wherever they need you and that depends heavily on the techs that refuse to work certain areas. Most of the time you do not know where you are working that day. 
Lunches are 30 minutes, except for a small few who leave for 1-2 hours at a time. Favoritism of employees is very obvious. 
Really poor turnover rate

My department was well maintained and managed. Everyone did their part and the manager did his best to keep us happy and protect us from the upper management. 

I've seen other departments in complete chaos with horrible management and high turnover. This made my department thankful and motivated us to make our department the best it can be.

Unfortunately this was not enough for executive management who only saw numbers (they gave themselves bonuses during the mist of COVID) and laid off or furloughed people. The current CEO J.B. is the type of person that is nice to your face then push you and your team under the bus for the sake of the All Mighty Dollar. 

If you do decide to apply, do some research on the department and if you know somebody that already works there, reach out to them for their opinion. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Patients. The managers and supervisors for the kitchen are not great. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Medical staff are wonderful but new manager and supervisors in the kitchen would rather sit in their office. Previous managers and supervisors always stopped and helped in the kitchen 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Coworkers are great. But Manager and Supervisor really don't care about everyday operations. They sit in their office 95% of the time. Previous Manager and supervisors always stopped and helped the kitchen 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Very busy.. lunch and breaks were frowned upon. Most days we worked 8-10 hours without lunch or 15 minute breaks

As one of the major employers in our area, I feel that San Juan Regional is a great place to work. I have learned a lot while working there.
Our department stays busy because the hospital always has projects in the works and a large facility to maintain.
I would say that the most difficult part of the job would be keeping up with the demands or needs of the hospital. It is not always easy to please every individual, but our team of technicians do their best.
At times, there can be office politics, but it is difficult to find a large company or facility these days that doesn't.
The most enjoyable are the challenges that can be presented almost on a daily basis and getting to know different ones at every level that excel at what they do and work hard to provide excellent customer service to the community.

The overall day of my position entails a lot of data entry and analysis. I do not learn much from management as it is a sink or swim lifestyle. You are valued on how well your boss likes you on a personal level not what your skill set is or how much you put into your work. The hardest part of the job is seeing people favored by management and not having recourse for actions that would otherwise get them reprimanded. The Controller of SJRMC is not liked by many and holds a better than thou attitude. She is the reason so many people leave and nothing is done about her lack of integrity, respect, and leadership skills. She loves to argue and give promotions to those she likes and not those who deserve it

A typical day would start at 6am three days a week and go til 6pm. I would get the report on each patient on Telemetry, approximately around 50 or 60 patients daily. Would call nurses for any problems that were monitored and interpreted by myself. I would inform Doctors how their patients were doing, and what changes i saw in their Cardiac rhythms. Interpret what rhythm they were in. I would also add each Doctor order they wrote for each patient on Cardiology floor. The hardest part of the job was learning cardiology anatomy, there would always be something you learned each day. Managment was great, willing to help with any questions i might have. Trying to push us as a team for the best care for our patients.
