Pros:
- 90% of the staff I met was amazing and really cared about patients. Most I met are still my good friends after leaving
- Pay is almost done $40/hr even without experience
- Easy interview…they’re not going to say no
- Consistent schedule. They can accommodate to early leaves or schedule change depending on reason usually
- Lot of overtime hours available to pickup. A lot of nurses make $7-10k/monthly

Cons:
- Short staffed most times. You’ll be missing a CNA or two, or your partner charge nurse if you’re in a bigger unit. You might get moved to another unit last minute. There’s not enough eyes on the floor so lot of incidents like falls commonly happen
- High ratios. Average is 30-35 patients but sometimes more if someone calls off in your unit
- No formal training from management and they grill you for not doing things exactly by the book and facility protocol
- Management favors only RNs. They don’t bother getting to know LVNs or other staff
- You are expected to take on an unsafe ratio of patients if someone calls off
- Heavy work load with little support from management or RN unless you are close with RN. Good luck if you’re the only charge nurse in the unit. Tasks include med pass for at least 30 patients, charting, answering the phone, speaking with families, talking to drs, calling pharmacy, hospice care, post mortem care, etc. This is standard at any SNF but you will have no support at all

It got to the point where I hated coming to work and the amount of stress, lack of support, and frustration I had was not worth the pay. Since then I’ve worked at other facilities that have smaller ratios, and lot of support from other staff and management. Protect your license.

nurses are pushed to take on more responsibility and no increase in pay. not much advancement, the patient to nurse ratio is high and over time if frowned upon. the human resources lady will write you up for unjuries on the job if she can find away. don't get hurt here because company doctors will do anything they can to get you back to work and try to blame you for injury. the male assistant director is the only upper management that understands how difficult it is to provide good care and not get over time. he is all about patient care and taking care of the staff. he is the only caring person in upper management. the only good thing that Santa anita has done is hire him. He is the only upper management nurse that actually does nursing and helps with anything. health insurance benefits are a joke you can get cheaper buying private insurance.

I like my job routine. No issues at all. Interacting with workers and patients make me feel good.
Very bad attitude the administrator running the business. She is not a people's person. No good morning...no good for be the person in charge of the hospital. She needs to set the example. 
Benefits are very bad, health insurance super expensive with high deductibles. Pto accruing percentage is very low. No discounts for meals. No discounts for work shoes or uniform. No incentives toward the workers. Seems this hospital doesn't want to invest for better pay and better quality of benefits  to maintain motivation to the workers. Thats why the retain is super low. 
The hospital needs to be restructure for better quality of benefits and the workers will be more happy and stay.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Best part of working there is the bonds with the residents, and the few coworkers you will meet that are willing to help out and help make the shift smoother 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Stressful part of the company is the lack of support for the staff, admissions accepting any patient despite aggressive background, higher up staff sweeping incidents under the rug, disorganized staffing (shifts will get cancelled & your availability is basically a suggestion as they will ask you to come in every other day), extreme favoritism regarding charge nurses & unfair treatment. You will get penalized for attendance but higher ups (charge nurses, managers etc) receive no penalty when reported for being unethical

Worse place to work at! 
Administration was great before the pandemic, after that it went down hill and it keeps on going down. Administration doesn’t care about the employees. Worst administration in years. 
Corporate  really needs to look into why so many employees are leaving .
they are very short staffed, they rather lay you off or accept your resignation instead of trying to work things out with the staff. 
 Expect so much from an employee and give you no credit and the pay is so low it’s not even worth it. They rather be short staff rather than pay over time for their employees…
I learn a lot from this please but they will never give you the opportunity to grow, unless they have favored you….. 


Management/corporate do not care about staff or their opinions/concerns and will throw you under the bus when something goes wrong. They are are always under staffed no matter how many people they hire, someone always quits. Nurse to pt. Ratio is dangerous here. Work load is heavy. CNA staff always short. Full of empty promises. Overtime is a big deal, but co. consultants do not see staff burn out. Money is more important to them than patient care. Schedules  are disorganized and  inconsistent. Communication is vague. Orientation training between 3 to 5 days, surely not enough. I can type all day about what is wrong with this place

Fails state surveys on a regular basis with failed follow up visits..
Too many falls than a nursing facility should have.
Santa Anita Convalescent's management is all about money, does not care about it's workers. Just this week they laid of 11 employees and as of last week laid of 6. Many people are hired but are not willing to stay. Everyone you meet, the employees are very nice and friendly. This place will work you..

THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO PAY YOU OVERTIME, AND IF NEEDS TO WILL MAKE YOU STAY. ONCE STAYED AND WORKED FOR FREE FOR MORE THAN 4 HOURS. THEY WILL WATCH YOU CLOCK OUT.

Working here has given me the opportunity to work with a group of hard working, energetic, and diligent people. My coworkers are awesome and so supportive of each other. This facility has its pros and cons but the pros outweigh the cons. The facility is short staffed but we all pull through and work together to get things done. 

The truth is more and more facilities are becoming short staffed because nurses are finding it unbearable to work under certain conditions. But working here, you'll see and feel the difference. We may be short staffed but the employees here go out of their way to help you get your assignments done. 

This place is ran so poorly! They are so short staffed, that more often than not, you might find yourself doing a job outside of your scope. The training is short and not helpful at all. After training they just throw you on the floor with zero supervision and expect you to run a whole unit alone. As a new grad this was very overwhelming, so rightfully so, I complained. My concerns were quickly brushed off and ignored by management and was basically told there's nothing they can do. DO NOT recommend, especially if you're a new grad. The pay is great, but your mental health will be at risk. 

never knowing from day to day where you are going to be. It is a very large facility. Nurse to patient ratio is very dangerous. Not enough certified nursing aides. Each shift is informed with new rules and standards. Which makes it very confusing as to which new policies and procedures are the ones to follow. Management has changed 3 times in the year I have been at this job. What I have learned is that I am able to do my job even in the most stressful situations. The most enjoyable part of my job is the residents. I care about them and would go above and beyond to help them and make sure above all they are safe. .
