I started  working at this hospital in November and because of this hospital, I found myself starting to question my career choice. I'm in nursing school now perusing my RN degree. Before meeting anyone there I was told they knew I was In nursing school and I was stupid for it. There weren't any conversations about who I am personally, there were only remarks such as "Why are you trying to be a nurse? Are you crazy?" and "Your school sucks. You need to find another school".  What a way to make someone feel welcomed! (Ps- I was told by my manager that the department was family oriented).  It was very disappointing when these people turned out to be the complete opposite of what I expected, what I was looking for as far as a work environment I needed.  So when I'm enlightened with comments such as: "This hospital is a joke". "It's too overwhelming here", and all the other comments that were made to me about being a nurse.  There I seen nurses yelling and talking down to extremely ill patients, each other, yelling at other nurses/techs and throwing around charts in front of everyone (including patients)--All this  after working a straight 14 hours on my feet with no kind of break. That hospital also made me physically and mentally ill.  I tried hard to communicate with my manager and house supervisor and NEVER got a proper response from anyone. I was told over and over in my interview and orientation "if you need me, call and or text anytime". Well I did and I was ignored! I AM sooooo glad I'm gone! I'm back to feeling excited about my journey to becoming a great nurse! You have to be enlightened, encouraged and positive to be able to share it with anyone else. I hope that things find their way to that hospital because I feel so bad for those patients that are being mistreated there! Patients were only taught to be a priority on orientation day, it wasn't practiced on the floor.

Santa Rosa Medical started off as a great job and slowly went downhill as the months went on. There is little to no team work. The nurses treat their techs very poorly. Half of the shifts the techs are left to do their job plus the job of the nurses. Nurses seem to just be there to hand out medications and then go back to their desk and depend on techs to do everything else. No one gets paid what they deserve, nurses nor techs. The directors/management for the floors care more about themselves then they do their employees. They get weekends off, get to leave by 4pm everyday, get holidays off, and so much more I feel is unfair to the everyday employees. The directors should be there to put in just as much work as the employees on their floor. The charge nurses do more then the directors and seem to do the directors job more then the actual director. Favorites are played to an extreme at this facility. If you don't jump on the brown nose train you basically have a target put on your back by "The favorites". The only thing I enjoyed at this facility was taking care of my patients.

In ICU the PCT is a new thing, which means I probably shouldn't complain. But I want to warn newbies. In ICU if there is LESS THAN FOUR PATIENTS YOU CANNOT WORK! They put you on call and you make maybe $3.00 an hour for being on call. Add in the fact that you will make less than $10 an hour it won't add up to the money you would be missing. I love my coworkers, and my boss. But the fact is the way they have everything set up makes it near impossible for the techs to work. Also they never have more than 3 nurses for 8 patients, which means if all nurses are busy and you are with a patient there is no one to answer the phones. YOU ACT AS UNIT SECRETARY WHILE YOU ARE THERE TOO! Make sure if all nurses are with patients you shut the doors if you are going to be in a patients room longer than 15 minutes because of you don't want unwanted visitors.

Every workplace has its challenges, and this one is no exception. However, it was a significantly better workplace than another hospital I've worked at. The environment was supportive, and I appreciated how approachable and understanding the management was whenever I faced issues. I also admired their strong commitment to patient-centered care.

That said, scheduling was a challenge for me—it wasn’t as flexible as I had expected or as I was initially told during the hiring process. Still, the rotations were typical of a hospital setting.

Overall, I gained valuable experience here, enough to feel confident in pursuing my next steps. If I ever decided to return to hospital work, I would gladly consider working here again.

Every other 3 day weekends off is the best.  Most enjoyable part of my work is working with the other staff members of the team.  Taking care of my patient's I also enjoy.  I have learned more about hospitals at this juncture since I have not been in a hospital for 10 years.  the nursing care is the same it is different approach on diagnosing such as sepsis now with Lactic Acids that I never used  10 years ago.  so new technology is being used.  I have enjoyed working here but the walking of the halls all day is the hardest part of my day.  We work at open communication with each other from the administrator to the staff members.

I started as a brand new RN working on the Med/Surg floor.  The manager was wonderful; always willing to teach me or offer support.
I loved working with my co-workers; we would often team up.  They never treated me as ignorant just because I was a new nurse.  The hardest part of the job was the 12-hour shifts, which every nurse knows is more like 13 or 14 hour shifts!  The most enjoyable part was that because it was such a small hospital, the opportunity to learn other areas of nursing such as the ER or the OR was encouraged!

I love the people that I work with but management constantly makes us work with unsafe ratios and understaffed with no consideration to acuity of the patients. Sometimes one nurse can end up with 6 totals or three critically Ill patients at the same time. When concerns are brought up to management, we are dismissed and continuously forced to take on unsafe patient loads. Most of the supervisors are very critical and not very helpful with the exception of a few. Overall, the nursing staff on the floor is amazing. But, management makes a huge difference and continues to let the hospital go down hill. We lose nurses and techs almost every week. 

This hospital is a hidden gem. Patients and their families tell me they come because they love the familiar and warm atmosphere of the hospital and the people working there. As an employee, I’m grateful for the benefits and pay opportunities. Staffing ratios are safe and manageable. The nurses I work with are genuinely caring and helpful. They often ask if I need help and the culture feels loving. They care about their patients. Management is always on the lookout for employees doing their job well and they regularly reward them. SRMC is a great place to work, and I am really thankful for my job here!

I worked in CCU/ICU for 15 yrs. I had developed good rapport with the physicians and co-workers. Everyone worked together. I worked in ED and Med/Surg on many of my off days. I enjoyed knowing most everyone in the hospital. Everyone was friendly. I was always learning something new everyday. We shipped out our more critical patients to bigger hospitals because they needed more/different facilities than we had. Overall it was a positive history of employment.

Nothing really you would just have to keep everything accessible to complete your tasks each day

Inputting filed transcribing physician orders, coordinating physician staffings just a variety of duties
