Scope employees in the Charlotte area only make 10 dollars an hour! I was told its been like that for years!!! There was no raise last year. This leads to a very high turnover rate in the Charlotte area. Driving a 100 miles daily and dealing with high voltage ,angry customers and there dogs the pay should be more! The vehicles we where forced to use often broke down weekly, yes weekly!! A fellow employee has to get a jump every morning to use her Scope truck. Employees from Greensboro came down to help but they could not complete there shift in Charlotte because 4 of there vehicles broke down that day. My supervisor interviewed me with a hooded sweatshirt on because his fire rated shirt had huge holes in the elbows. My fellow employees all YES all have holes in there fire rated pants and shirts. Scope employees are NOT ALLOWED to have holes in there clothes BUT we only received maybe 1 shirt/pants a year maybe. Wearing a long sleeve thick shirt and thick jeans in the North Carolina summer was hot especially when the air in Scope truck barley worked if worked at all. The tough books laptops we are required to use hardly work. Most will not stay in network. Delivering shut off notices was not bad and very easy. We also had to change meters out (also easy). Out of 10 meter changes 8 of the meters most likely have already been changed multiple times. That is a Duke issues but we have to deal with the angry customers. "why are you on my property AGAIN" most of this is because the people live in a rural area and the meter would not communicate. The reason I stayed one month is my supervisor and fellow employees were really great. This supervisor was very relaxed because of the pay. He knew how low the pay and almost apologized daily for the pay. I left to take a easier job make over 3 dollars an hour more. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND because of the pay. Employees should making at least 12 an hour to start if not more.

Place is a joke. The manager of the warehouse is loud and shouts from his desk orders but won't get up. He calls in all the time. And speaks disrespectfully to all of us. He's a 20 something year old kid yelling at men double his age while he sits at his desk and texts. There were a lot of cool guys who worked there. We would all work hard but it was never enough he always had something to say. We all would hope he wouldnt show up to work so we could have a good day, his bad attitude brought down the morale of the whole shop. He did lay offs based on his personal relationship and If he liked you. Not based on how long you worked there or work ethic. I was layed off way before other people who didn't work hard and hadn't worked there as long. The manager was a hypocrit. Yell at me when I was 5 minutes late coming back from lunch when he's on salary and takes a 3 hour lunch. And couldn't go above his head (learned that the hard way) because his dad runs the entire project, my complaints were tossed. Glad I'm out of there. No one at the entire project likes or respects him. Uses language that isn't appropriate in the work environment to embarrass and harass employees.

Hard work pays off. Wear proper safety gear, check voltage, install meters. Nice company vehicles to drive on the job. Customer confrontations are a very real thing, gift of gab and a courteous attitude goes along way. Only downside is no matter how much management loves you, if you have any incident at all, kiss your job goodbye. No potential for advancement in rank. These field supervisors and project managers tend to frown upon anyone looking to join their ranks. You get paid to put meters in, and if you're good at it they will keep you putting meters in. It's a numbers game, get numbers....get paid. Have low numbers for daily installs and reprimand is your future. Best part about the job, even though the meters are the same, each home, each customer, each property is different. In my time there, I seen mountains, waterfalls, worked along lakeshores, seen million dollar homes.

I would install new electricity meters in a minimum of 45 homes or businesses per day in a company truck with little to no supervision. I would make my own hours by deciding what time I wanted to go to lunch and how I would take the day. I learned you don't have to be always serious to get your work done the right way by keeping a work ethic and keeping in mind what needed you attention like safety issues and guidelines. I would work directly with electricity and would have to follow numerous amount of safety rules like the hard hats daily checking of the equipment like gloves and electronics used. The hardest part of the job was to keep hydrated since it was a constantly moving around job that required lots of thick clothing and sun exposure. The best thing about the job was literally everything, I would get so much exercise to get my job done and would get lots of friendly compotation to get more and more installs in a day.

I went thru the training class which was easy and started the on job training.  After a few days I started listening to my other coworkers about all the problems they had with customers. They would get into fights with customers, or some have been threatened with a gun because you are going onto peoples property without them knowing what you are doing there. You would first knock on the door and if nobody answers (which was common) you would go to the meter and proceed to change it, sometimes as you were in the middle of changing the meter the customer would come out and wanted to know what you were doing. Some customers would let their dogs out on you and possibly come out with a gun and demand you off the property. It wasn't a plesent experience not knowing what would happen day to day when you were at work. Yes you would get people that were nice but not knowing how they were going to act is very concerning.

I have been working for this company for only a couple of months but just at one office alone 3 people have quit. Every morning starts with all FSRs getting scream at or threaten by managers. If you are in a car accident the likelihood of you keeping your job is very low, even if the accident was unpreventable or not your fault. Work load is extremely high. More than likely you will not be able to take your breaks and get everything done before it's time to leave. The pay is basically the same as McDonald's, but management will threaten to charge you penalties the company attains even if fault really is on dispatch or Duke. Also there is nothing more demeaning than being at an office where the Duke Energy Meter Technicians are making 3 times the amount you are making for doing the same job.

 you get to go out and do jobs on your own with less supervision that’s it

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
They lied to us strong us along told us that we would be getting raises after 90 days it never happened and it still hasn’t happened and the wait until your oak you’d to push two schedules because when I first started I was coming in 7 to 430 now It’s 7 to 430 and 9 to 6. No one wants to take the second shift so they force us to take the second shift. Whoever’s not fast at what you do out here in the field. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Its ok that is about the only thing is that everybody’s respectful of everybody

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Eight hours and if they like you, you may get overtime only when you’re out in the field  when you’re in training there is no overtime

They lie in the job description, before you're even hired(Just b/c they need ppl that bad & constantly). Unprofessionalism is wht they live for. Say 1 thing & do the opposite. They live for drama everyday, that has nothing to do with the job. Always talk about everything else, except the right thing. Try to treat/talk to grown adults as if they are their children. Everything is funny, smart, & sarcastic to "Management/Supervisor"! Their #1 priority is to make up/have an issue, with employees, when there's not 1. So ensure you have, your own personal proof of things. Do not go by what comes out their mouths. Go exactly by everything you see. Inconsistency should be the company logo/motto. They most definitely do not practice what they "preach" about. They're constantly too worried about what ppl have going on in their persnal lives.

Initially, the company provided a satisfactory working environment, offering competitive compensation and a sense of accomplishment. However, the recent changes implemented by the president have significantly impacted my motivation and productivity. The reduction in my working hours without a clear justification has created a tense atmosphere within the organization. Furthermore, there is a lack of accountability and transparency regarding the actions of the management team. The primary focus of the company now appears to be financial gain, disregarding the well-being and satisfaction of its employees. In light of these circumstances, I strongly advise against considering employment at this company unless you are in dire financial straits and have no other viable options.

Employees are severely underpaid, disrespected and threatened on a daily basis by a short, loudmouth project manager with a Napoleon complex who has little to no knowledge of the field. Employees are overworked and never allowed to take lunch breaks, though the breaks are deducted out of every paycheck.  There is absolutely no room for advancement with this "company".  Corporate is as equally unethical, disrespectful, and dishonest.  I wouldn't wish employment with this company on my worst enemy.  Be very careful and keep close tabs on your pay when dealing with this "company" and Utilities Outsource as well because they are the same company.
