Working at the Cognitive Development Center under Seaside Healthcare has been a deeply rewarding experience that strengthened both my clinical skills and my understanding of community-based mental health services. As part of a mental health rehabilitation program, I worked directly with diverse clients across the lifespan who presented with emotional, behavioral, and functional challenges. My role involved providing psychosocial rehabilitation interventions, teaching coping and life skills, facilitating structured activities, and supporting clients in improving daily functioning, emotional regulation, communication, and independent living skills. I gained hands-on experience working alongside mental health specialists, support staff, and clinical supervisors while contributing to treatment planning, observing client progress, and promoting recovery-oriented care. This environment allowed me to apply evidence-based practices, develop strong therapeutic communication skills, and enhance my competency in working with clients from varied cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds within a real-world clinical setting.

What is the best part of working at the company?
My team and a few coworkers that was willing to work and not just be there. The ones that took their job serious and worked as a team. Also the opportunity to make overtime and pick up extra shifts if needed 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Working under staff daily mostly but the main issue is the new MHT supervisor. She is the worst person I have ever worked with in my 44 years of living. She does not know how to talk to her employees, very rude, micromanaging every one, talks to her staff as if she is better then everyone and constantly feel if it’s not her way it’s no way. The facility has lost slot of good people since she had started and it’s only getting worse

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The culture is pretty good, there’s really no bad vibes when it comes to the culture but as for the environment it can be stressful. Mainly the stress comes from coworkers not the patients

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I make my day good, I’m not the type to walk around with a frown on my face. I believe in turning a bad situation into a good one.

I was attracted to this company because of its focus on mental health. In fact, the described RN role requires psychiatric experience. I fell for it and became discouraged very quickly. The "psychiatric) RN role only involves taking vital signs, entering same in an antiquated and ultra complex computer program, enter same vital signs for the FNP to review during telemed.
The position only requires a 3 hr presence on Wednesday, ( taking VS and enter them in the ultra confusing computer program), and up to 5-6 hrs on Thursdays.
So, don't expect your mental health background and training to be utilized. . Social workers do 1:1, run groups and case managers see "clients" in the community. . Interminable teleconferences take place regularly and often after hours.
Any mental health trained RN should look elsewhere to be able to say, " I made a difference today". 

PFLC provides significant supervisory support to clinicians and case managers.  The work can often be exhausting with significant time spent traveling to see clients.  However, with the incredible support provided by supervisors and other staff members, combined with the progress you can support clients to achieve, this is a very rewarding position and company to work with.  Flexibility is a must with regards to willingness to work with families.  Often, work can begin early in the morning and go until late in the evening, depending on when families and other stakeholders are available to meet.  This does lead to some difficulty in managing a healthy and sustainable work/life balance.  The work you will do at PFLC will prepare you for anything you could want to do in social services through the connections you will make, the skills you will develop and nurture, and the experiences you will have.

A typical work day as an admit nurse for Seaside, I have the opportunity to utilize such skills as autonomy, best practice decision making skills and care coordination when accepting and assessing patients  for admission to this facility. I enjoy having the clinical knowledge and experience to support my decisions through evidence based practice. In that this is an older health facility, opportunity presents in such ways as effective leadership, standard of care and performance, reporting and technology investments. However, I am appreciative to this experience as I am able to provide my level of expertise to enhance the production of this organization. The hardest part about this job is not having standards of practice implemented in the culture of the organization as everyone does what their individual experiences guide in their performance. The most enjoyable thing is learning new skills, connecting with colleagues and sharing knowledge.

The atmosphere ..the techs and the patients 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The MHT supervisor..and Administrators.The DON came across as races,but of course there not they want wats best for there employee...The pay was ridiculous especially when your doing the nurses job for them..

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
HORRIBLE.The environment/work atmosphere is draining...Everyone is all over the place..Too many bosses and not enough workes.

Stressful..The MHT stands over you and she don't know half of what she want us to do..

Seaside struggles with upper management and communicating with staff. Decisions are hastily made from people who do not understand the work required. Seaside continues to "nickel and dime" you for every little thing. You do not get any paid holidays. You have to use you own PTO in order to get paid for the holiday. So for example, on Christmas Day, you have to use your own PTO in order to receive payment even thought the office is closed. Workplace culture is poor. Moral low and upper management continues to make promises for change but the only change that occurs is change to poorly effects the staff. 

A typical day was keeping the peace and joy in place with challenging mental personalities among adults.
What I learned about mental health is having patience with your client
Management was always open door policy.
Admitting some combatiive patients that didn't want to be there.
The enjoyable part of the job was always seeinghow you"ve help see a tremendous change with Adl's and medication giving and taking to see there true baseline of knowing there ready for discharge of attending daycare programs weekly of positiveness and educating them on continuing the everyday and night medications.

There was a lot of bullying there, which was surprising for a mental healthcare company. Managers led with fear and intimidation. It seemed they favored employees who were less competent, in fear of being out-shined. Everything seemed like a competition. What happened to just wanting to do a job well and being efficient and productive? An older female manager pitted many employees against one another and would blame others for her own mistakes. She seemed to be very unsure of what she was doing, was often confused & forgetful, and became hostile because of it. I actually had to start going to therapy while working there. Ironic

The colleagues here are amazing. They try their best to help with any situation that arises, never have to worry question your compensation. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
I feel like all dual diagnosis facilities will experience the same business stressors but that just comes with it. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very fair and don’t mind hearing different views or perspectives.

I’m in outreach so mine would look a little different.
