I have a love/hate relationship with working here. The management is very strict and unsupportive, there’s a lot of stories that go around of how people get fired over small things. A lot of the members are older, and very disrespectful, yet management will 10/10 take their side over yours. I even had someone lie about taking money out, and they believed him with little evidence. Very sales oreinted, and if you don’t make the goals as a team there’s no bonus that year. I’ve seen many tellers stuck in their position for years because they can’t catch a promotion because they tend to hire someone new than promote within. If the managers like you then you get the better windows and hours, if they don’t you get stuck in drive and the front windows every day. I absolutely love that they have Halloween contests every year, but unfortunately they are not open to many ideas, even though I suggested over 10 they kept saying they didn’t get any participation. The all staff meetings are absolutely pointless and provide little need to know information for most positions. They keep tellers at “part-time” even though you usually work 38-40 hours a week. If even one other teller has a day off your out of luck for getting the same day. They need more roving tellers and better sales training. I also signed many greivance cards, but when a close family member passed away I was not given one, which made me feel like they either didn’t believe me or didn’t care. I do like the dress code, some of the regulars, the computers, and the hours.

I learned that the way I view leadership qualities is not the same as the companies.  The culture is focused on their internal corporate values which focus on the employees you work around but are not focused on the members you serve.  The corporate values are centered around the employees and who you work with whereas the company mission statement is centered around the social and economic growth of the members.  This can be confusing on what the true intention for the company is.  The hardest part of my job was not dealing with our members but dealing with internal employees that would not be as concerned with helping our members as in helping themselves in assuring time off and such.  I had many times of enjoyment and those were in my helping others whether internal or external.  I enjoy to teach what I have learned over my years of working.

Amazing advancement opportunities that are provided internally first which allows for first picks. One of the VP's began as a teller, meaning with hard work and dedication this company provides you with all the opportunities you could possibly need for your career advancement. The management was just impressive in my opinion, they were great listeners and you always feel respected and valued here. During my time here I was under the supervision of about 10 different people and I have nothing bad to say about any of them. If you're looking for a place with great culture, leadership and real career opportunities then apply!

You spend most of the time handling lots of different transactions. I learned that I am not afraid to give people bad news. The management pretends to care about who you are but they are just saying that. I watched a lot of people get fired or quit in just a short time there. The hardest part of the job is handling rude people. The most enjoyable part was making connections with people. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
I’m not sure what the best part is. Scheduling and pay is okay.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The pressure put on you from managers to sell products and to take nonstop calls.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
You’re expected to drink and serve the koolaid .

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Busy! Lots of pressure to meet MANY expectations.

Worked in multiple areas of the credit union, the good managers tend to be more so in the back office/behind the scenes areas. The company pushes a great workplace environment and culture but I have seen some favoritism and cattiness between employees and management. A lot of room for advancement and movement, but I would like to see seniority stop being so much more important over quality of work and efficiency in important roles. 

I enjoyed working with the members and co-workers. I started as a teller in 1996. I worked in the Teller Department for four years.

I advanced to the Collections Department in 2000. I worked in collections for thirteen years. I worked the negative balances in the Credit Union. I also processed all the incoming garnishments and levies.

I enjoy working in a fast pace environment.

The training was thorough and you went through training for 2-3 weeks and shadow for a couple of more. This allowed us to not have to be immediately thrown on phone calls and allowed us to focus on our training. The managing staff and senior leadership are supportive and proactively engages with their staff on personal and professional levels. 

SELCO is great all around. You'll have management that genuinely cares about you as a person and your career goals. The company culture is laid back and fun. Helping members and living up to their mission statement are driving factors for the company. The work (dealing with the public, especially these days) can be challenging, but I loved working for the company!

Toxic work environment with very exclusive attitude. They either like you or they drive you out. Unfriendly and unreasonable managers. They will actively harass you to get you to leave. Operate on a very shady level. "Mean girls" at a professional level. Very little support for new hires. Cut throat. Overall bad environment.
