Administrative Assistant for Institutional Reviews (3rd Assignment)

Briefed the Director of Institutional Reviews with several reports concerning the Summary for the Key Operating Statistics from the Department of Education web site on a quarterly basis. Created and updated databases to reflect the following; Change in Location, Change in Name, Change in Ownership, and Closed Schools. 
Assisted the Manager of Institutional Review, with creating the Annual Financial Report (Income Statement and Balance Sheet) and Quarterly Financial Report documents in a Microsoft Excel format in order for easier reporting purposes. Assisted the Director of Accounting with inputting the revenue figures for all the schools and colleges accredited by ACICS into the IMIS database in a timely manner. Updated several databases to report the change in income balance for all institutions (612), and created different documents for billing purposes. Walked checks, to SunTrust bank and received deposit slips in the Accounting Manager absences.

Filed appeals for the Office of General Counsel in regards to complex requests, and denials; organized grants for a discloser for all records pertaining to Privacy Act Request, and initialed request for access to records under the Privacy Act.

The assignment that I am at is great but the true issue with select staffing is that they won't let you apply for a different position.  My assignment is long term temporary but offers no benefits as a temp and I would like to find someplace that offers a permanent position that has benefits but they always make excuses to why you can't try anything else. They say you can't apply for a new position unless you quit the one you are at and then their is no guarantee that they will send you to the new position. How can you take the chance of quitting your position without knowing you will have another job.  Their biggest thing is that they say you are not qualified for the position when you know that you are.  They won't give you a chance.  I have a college degree in the new field that I am trying to get into but they say I'm not qualified and the position remains open.  I think that the staff doesn't know how to hire for the positions that are available or they are using tactics to keep you where you are.  Every question they asked about the field I answered correctly but yet I'm not qualified they say.  I have talked to other people that have attempted to get jobs or change assignments through them also and they have had the same issues with them. I guess its like who you know not what you know. Like I said the assignment that I work at is ok but trying to work with the staff to get a position that you can advance in is like getting your teeth pulled, it hurts.  I guess the only way for me to advance my opportunity is on my own. Don't take a job here that doesn't have temp to perm possibility because they will lock you in and not help you advance.  If you want true help in finding a job that you can advance in and a group that will help you get there I don't believe this staff is the right one for you.

my day here would consist of starting at 7 AM checking off the list of what number forklift your on today, start unloading product off of the truck trailer, load onto pallet then hand wrap the product to the pallet, then put finished pallet under the correct numbered lane by sku number with forklift and continue until the the truck trailer is empty. You would do that until all truck trailers are empty. If those were all finished in a day then you would pick orders to load on trucks that are ready to be shipped out the following day. Some of the things i learned was how to use a different forklift, hand wrapping, how to pick orders by the sku number, and how to place product in the correct lane by sku number. The management was pretty clam and quite they didn't really ask to much except be on time, finish your truck, and help others if we were running late to finish an order. They didn't come onto the warehouse floor to much unless we messed up an order or were running late to make sure we finish on time. They gave us a lot of space on the floor due to many forklifts running all over the floor pulling and picking orders at fast pace. For the most part the job was as hard as you made it depending on how hard you worked. I liked the space they gave us on the floor and for the co-workers most of them didn't speak English but were very hard fast pace intelligent people that made my day easier. The hardest part of the job was the wrapping of pallets with your hands because of the cardboard on the inside of the wrap would burn your hands in no time its was something your hands had to get used too and sometimes because of how high the product was on the pallet.

Wasn't such a bad place to work in the beginning but the office/staff there was very unprofessional. When I went in to talk to them about something pertaining to my assignment or to drop off my timesheet for the week I observed the women that work in the office layed back in there chairs texting and talking on their personal cell phones. When the office phones would ring they would just tell the people who were calling asking if they had any jobs or openings available that quote "we don't have nothing right now, try calling back in a week or so". They acted as if answering the phones and doing their job was a chore and they got rid of phone calls as quick as possible so they could get back to their conversations. I wasn't paid on two seperate occasions and they tried to make jokes about this in an attempt to get me to lighten up. This was in my opinion the worst staffing agency I've ever been with or dealt with. I reported them to their corporate headquarters for the unprofessionalism and paycheck issues and the manager of the place made sure that 2 days before I was to be hired full time by the company I was doing the assignment for through them she ended my assignment with them. I could never prove it of course but it was very obvious this was done because I had reported them and their branch was fined for their ineptness with the payroll which was their fault not mine. Her actions cost me a chance at being hired as was her intentions.

I worked for Select Staffing a long time ago. I really enjoyed working for this company. I worked temporary assignments by choice. Often, I was provided with very good clerical positions. The flexibility was very good as well as the pay. Working temp assignments really balanced with my life as I had days off in between assignments to handle most of my needs. I, normally and preferred to work short-term assignments in order to create have time off as needed. I felt job security because I had no issues with being called for assignments; they kept me as busy as I was available.  

As far as management, Select seemed to have been managing well based on the way they communicated with me. If I had any concerns, Select management was there for me and addressed any matters as needed.

The hardest part of working with a temp service is not knowing what location you will be assigned or what type of people you would be working with. During most of my time with Select, I had very nice assignments and employees were really nice. The most enjoyable part of the job is the way that Select clients showed me appreciation  for my work and that I was meeting or going beyond their expectations. Most of the clients would call Select and ask for me to come back on temp assignments; I even received permanent offers.

I worked here part-time on their Modus-Link Project (Here Technologies destination assist for vehicles) in a call center setting. The work itself was not too confusing, the instructors were ok. However, they let people go if their incoming call load diminishes and it does so seasonally. If they let people know that was a possibility it would be better, instead the propaganda is that they will work with people and that the rumors that they let people go when times are slow is a lie. Well, that propaganda was the real lie. One day I was pulled into a room and told to relinquish my employee card. No notice and the person doing the deed had no information about why. She speculated that part-timers and those that have worked there for a shorter time period normally were first to be cut when call volume slows down. I later on contacted my direct supervisor via facebook. They did this while he was out of town on vacation for Christmas. He said I was one of his most consistent and best sounding people on the phone and confirmed it would have had to had nothing to do with my quality of calls. Later on, he actually contacted me via facebook months later and lamented that he too had the same experience that I had with being let go. So, that's how they operate, it's not a matter of if it will happen to you, just when.

* Monday through Thursday traveled throughout New England and Eastern New York servicing franchise branches and clients.
* Friday's were office days to get caught up on all administrative duties and reporting from the field.
* Follow-up with branches and clients to let them know progress is being made on action items from visits and trainings.
* Potential monthly incentive bonus.
* Time management was key due to the fact that I made my own schedule to fit the needs of our branches and clients we served.
* Co-workers were a pleasure to work with and very helpful when I was first hired.
* Hardest part of the job was by far the constant travel and not knowing what time you might get home.  Finding out they had to make cuts within the company and being laid-off.
* Networking and being able to help out or give suggestion to mitigate any risk or potential risk. Also working with the franchises that I did while with Select.

The people there were terribly rude and racist. No one spoke english and if you didnt know how to speak spanish you were treated horrible or in some cases laid off . The management had no idea how to control thier emloyees and did not communicate any information properly .It was so hot and work conditions were terrible to where I got nausiated and dizzy and almost had a heat stroke . We begged to have a fan brought to us and it took 3 days to finaly have one brought to our work area. The women who worked in the pickpackaging department were constantly gossipping and lying to management to get people fired . I was constantly being yelled at like a 5 year old about things that were not communicated with me . No gloves or blades to open boxes and protect our hands. We were finaly provided with them about 3 weeks into the job. I learned nothing whatsoever from this job. There were a couple of co-workers who i worked with who were great people and if it wasnt for me knowing spanish and interpretting everything to them Im sure they wouldnt have been there very long . The last day I worked there I was accused of stealing and didnt even know it . The next day I was told there was no work and to not come back untill further notice . I would never go back even if they called me .

My typical day would start 5 am reviewing emails from home or posting journal entries in order to close the period, which was due to the time zone difference (3 hours). I would be in the office for 9-10 hours a day and work an average 60-70 hours a week. I would have an average of 100 emails a day, conference calls, meetings with staff, answering questions relating to the day-to-day work activities, and reviewing P&L's and balance sheet. 
As a manager, employee retention is important to me. I would provide specialty food items for the staff. We would meet after work such as bowling just to break from the long work hours to close the books. If staff has a personnel issue to take care of and they need to take a hour or two off, then I don't oppose. I believe in being fair and making it clear of the department's expectation to earn their loyalty and dedication from staff. 
The hardest part of the job is when you have multiple projects that have set deadlines with ongoing daily tasks, and mandatory meetings to be balanced within your own time management. 
The most enjoyable part of the job is performing different tasks and being engaged with process improvements to increase efficiencies.

yeah they put you to work but they lied to me about the wages on the first day only to find out 3 months down the road that it was a lie. they have not offered a raise, matter of fact said point blank that there will be no raise that as long as u work for them its this amount point blank. ten days or ten years does not matter its this amount. there is no room for advancement and obviously no chance of being hired on by the company. the supervisors have their buddies and as long as you are in their click its ok but if your not then they talk to you like an idiot and will not help you at all. i work 12 hour shifts and am supposed to get 2 breaks for 10 minutes and a 30 minute lunch. there is never anybody to break you out for your 2 ten minute breaks and rarely somebody for your lunch break. I am seriously considering calling OSHA over the break situations. the managers for select are complete liars and their supervisors are not able to supervise anything but themselves. one supervisor will leave on the weekends and disappear for 4 hours at a time. I would not refer my worst enemy to Select Staffing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
