Worked PRN for this company in a rural town in an old, falling apart, and embarrassing facility. There were never any supplies and the supplies that were available were the cheapest available. Basic items like foley bags were never available. I could list a whole list of problems such as these, from run down and broken equipment to the place reeking of urine. Very high turnover of staff. This company pays all nurses the bare minimum, it doesnt matter if you have been a nurse for 2 days or 20 years, the pay is a ridiculous insult. Nurses who have no choice but to accept the low wages because of financial situations only do so until they secure employment elsewhere. This company seems to have the same problems across the board in every facility. This facility provides skilled nursing services, but I cringed everytime a resident was placed on IV therapy and/or IV antibiotics. Residents that are admitted or readmitted with PICC lines made me nervous because of the surrounding terrible conditions and lack of knowledgable staff to properly care for these residents. When these issues were brought up to the inexperienced DON with very little time spent as an RN, she would become angry and you didnt know if you were fixing to get fired, most of the answers were 'I know but what can i do about it?' There was no administrator except for an interim that stayed only a short time. This company is in need of an immediate and serious overhaul. It seems many of the reviews reflect the same problems, and until this company corrects its many serious problems, I would not recommend anybody in the nursing field to work here. I really wouldnt recommemd anybody working here at all. Unfortunately, pleas for better conditions and better pay continue to fall on deaf ears.

As a Director of Rehab, I am paid to get and keep patients on caseload and generate rehab driven revenue. Nothing unusual in that, but additional challenges include trying to balance the work and personal needs of my therapy co-workers as well as trying to keep my facility administrator and MDS nurse deliriously happy as well. SLP's profit driven expectations effect everyone in this hierarchy and whether one can tolerate the stress levels that often result under this scenario depends almost entirely on the personalities involved. If your crew is dysfunctional and demanding, then you can expect to be miserable as well. If your administrator is a high maintenance pain in the rear, then your co-workers can expect to see a trickle down effect as well. SLP is not unusual in this regard and I can honestly say that they are no better or worse than any other nursing home company I've had to work with in my 30 years as a clinician and rehab director.

Retention is low. You will not keep your job here, because you'll get let go if you don't quit first. As a marketer, I had zero connection with anyone in the company, and I was considered management. Couldn't keep an administrator in a building. Couldn't keep a DON, a business office manager, social worker, activities director, you name it because no one can continue to work in those environments. I marketed for seven facilities, and could never get through to anyone in management with questions or concerns. Never knew who my administrators were because there were new ones every month. Management in Fort Worth does not care about these facilities. They refuse to take action to renovate their facilities that are rundown and old. Even the vans are embarrassing when picking up and dropping off residents at the hospital/doctors appointments. If you want to work for a company that even cares an ounce about their employees and residents, I suggest going anywhere else but SLP.

This company bought our building and we transitioned from contract therapy to in-house. We were notified the day of when the new company took over. They are like many rehab companies, although have very poor organization and communication skills within the higher corporate employees, specifically Human Resources. They charged all employees twice for initial insurance premiums, they did not respond timely to calls and messages left regarding new insurance benefits questions, and they recently made an error with the end date of coverage for medical insurance, leaving me with a hefty medical bill. I even called corporate in Fort Worth, TX and was left with voicemails for assistance. I don’t have a lot of experience but I am very disappointed with this company and how poorly they care for their employees. 

This seemed like a last resort nursing home for residents. There were roaches crawling everywhere even on immobile residents. Most of the aides were not certified and seemed to be unsure of what or how to do things properly. It was constantly understaffed leading to residents being constantly soiled and dirty. They were even surprised if they got a shower on shower day. Good luck trying to find linens or even the residents clothes if they had one pair you would be lucky. The ADONs were ridiculous! One seemed to be on drugs while the other looked exhausted. HR never seemed to be around. Day shift was constantly trying to find someone to attend to a wound which never seemed to be addressed either. Oh & pay! If you were not contract, you get nothing! 10+ years and I made a little over $12. 


When I joined SLP I did so on blind faith. I left my home of 30 plus years and moved halfway across the country simply because I could see the dedication, commitment and truly caring spirit of the senior leadership. I knew this company was in need of TLC and it would be a huge challenge but I also believe we have the right folks in place to truly transform SLP and emerge as the company everyone wants to work for and the place customers choose to come to for all their healthcare needs. Though the work is hard, fast paced and ever changing, I have not regretted my decision for one second. I work at they one in Granbury and the entitlement is real out there in the building and anywhere you go for lunch

The work is easy. once again its an entitlement issue however the staff is very diverse and most of us are nice

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I come in and get my residents up and start showers. We work 12s so by 10am I am finished and chilling and charting on my lazy day but usually I find something that needs to be done to keep the time moving

Recently interviewed for a full time position and did not get a good impression from the moment I walked in the door. The first thing I noticed was the smell. Literally smelled like years of urine and for a place with no carpet that tells me that the residents are not being cleaned properly or housekeeping is not doing their job. You would think they would at least try to cover it with some kind of air freshener so that when you walk in that's not the first thing you notice. Secondly, the pay they were offering was way under the average for the area for nurses. Someone would have to be pretty desperate to accept what they were offering. If they want good quality nurses they are going to need to offer some kind incentives because their base pay and shift diff is a joke.

I love the staff it could be better organized and they don’t recognize that they have good dependable long term staff I’m talking about ladies that have been working here for twenty plus years and they come to work every day with a smile on their faces

The most stressful part is not having enough help and still trying to provide the best care possible under the circumstances

I Have Been Here Three years And It has had Its Ups And downs But Overall It Has been a fairly nice Place To work. And Our Bosses Are Awesome Ruth Don And Lisa Adon We Try Very Hard To make Sure Our Job s Are Done well so They Can See we Work Hard and Do our Jobs To tHe Best of our Ability. We Have Fun Accassionally, And I do things for Our Residents To Make Them Happy ,Make Flower Arrangements help decorate for many accassions.  WE Love Working at cross Country healthcare.I Have worked the Unit And Front Hall its Been about same where ever you weork the most importyant thing is to take care of our residents.
