I have the pleasure of working at Sentinel Transportation, and I can confidently say it's an outstanding company. The people and management are truly exceptional, creating a positive and collaborative work environment.

I can't say I was not warned about the lack of work. I worked in Los Angeles terminal for 3 years. During that time I had multiple different managers and dispatchers. My first terminal manager was great, he was tough, but fair. There was only one dispatcher that knew what he was doing, and now I understand he is gone from there also. During my time there I watched the equipment go down hill. Mechanic was not motivated enough to do anything as far as preventative maintenance, and trucks were breaking down left and right. And the repairs that were done were sub par at best. When I started there the guy that trained me was very very good. He was tough but fair. But he gave up the training position, and things really started rolling down hill. As for the wages, well the first year I was there was ok, but after that things weren't as good. My wage dropped by $17,000 over the next two years, because THEY HAVE NO WORK IN LOS ANGELES. So I decided to go elsewhere. Also they have not had any wage increases at the Los Angeles terminal in the last 3 years. And now most all the other fuel carriers have caught up to, and some have even passed them up in the wage and benefit part. If you are looking to make more than $55,000 - $65,000 this is not a place to work.

Sentinel transportation is a great place to work for. A typical day can be from 8hrs to 12hrs of a day delivering gas to local 76 gas stations. I learned how to become a better and more responsible driver ever since i was hired.I try to remember what i see, hear, and learn at the safety meetings and put them to practice such as unloading and loading procedures, managing my speed and space cushions and etc...Management is organized,and helpful even when they're under the pressure of other things, they always try to help you out, and stay one step ahead to cover any unexpected issues at the terminal because it could be as unpredictable just like L.A traffic.Our co-workers are pretty much all ok except for a couple, but we mostly all greet each other and try to help each other. Like anything else this job can really stress you out and make forget that you are a professional driver and even when it gets complicated we have to keep it professional at all times.The most enjoyable part of the job is that it's all local work, your driving, and enjoying the view, and if theirs a burger joint close by, you can stop by and grab a bite.

This company should just let their HR department and safety managers completely take over and run the company.  Sentinel will fire you on the spot for drinking a soda, talking on the phone (including blue tooth devices), seatbelt violation, (including backing - coupling and uncoupling) and the list goes on and continues.  Be prepared for the auto shift Kenworth.  These trucks have zero power and you are a limited to 60mph.  For a company with so much safety they have more accidents than most.  A lot of drivers have said that they were so worried about making a mistake, that it caused them to have a accident.  Also all of this while in the cab is recorded via camera.  The company has also installed speed gauge on their trucks.  As you roll in to a town and possibly are above the posted speed limit, speed gauge will flag this and report it to the company.  A few of these will also get you fired.  There are many many many more issues with this company.  I didn't get in to their management much, but what a bunch of dishonest people.  They will not stand up for any driver.  They only do what Human Resources in Wilmington Deleware tells them they can do.  Human Resources, they know zero about driving trucks or hauling crude oil.

Camera in the truck watching everything you do.  They say it's a teaching tool, but it's an excuse to fire you if you step out of line in even the slightest bit.  Management sneaks around and watches you do your job from binoculars trying to catch you mess up, and then claim they do it for your own safety.  Absolutely no work life balance.  If your busy your expected to work every hour available, and if your area is slow they send you out of town (even if you dont want to go) or you get sent home with no pay.  No sick day pay unless your off for a minimum of 3 days and then you must also get a doctor's excuse on top of that.  Graded on how much money you make for the company. They put out a chart on safety meeting day and compare you to your fellow workers and workers from other terminals and point it out in front of everyone if your not meeting company minimums.  And if you follow all thier rules to a T, then there's no way you can meet thier ridiculous expectations.  
They should hire robots not people because that's how your expected to work here!!

My experience working at SENTINEL TRANSPORTATION they have industry leading safety polices and don't provide any tools to follow through on them and if something happens well thats your fault. It started out risky and stayed that way. The fake mngr wants you to be safe and don't give you the tools to do the job safely, then they'll fire for not having the tools they never gave not following the policies they have so its a set up : )

Typical mom and pop poorly run company. The lady that runs the place doesn't seem to understand without "drivers" there is no transportation company. Management has no understanding of the actual job yet "coach" drivers over petty things.
This company does not learn from its mistakes.
The training is terrible, the trainers use the trainees to get done faster and actually teach them things that they themselves should be reprimanded for doing.
No job security. Drivers are not treated with respect. Pay is based on the biggest scam in the driving industry, straight rate, no OT. That is a DOT loophole that is used by dishonest companies.
You will be accused of insubordination just for asking questions.
This job used to be considered prestigious amongst the driver industry but companies like this have ruined it over the years.

I worked for Sentinel over 2 years.they have the best benefits and retirement in the Country.we work 12 hour shifts 5 days on 2 days off then six days on and one day off.it alternated every week. did not have a weekend off for 2 years.management has a bad problem with the buddy system and favoritism.oh and did I mention the cameras they put in the trucks to watch you.that's right smile you're on candid camera.forget using your cell phone with Bluetooth or headset its not allowed.they watch you with the cameras To in force the rules.don't stop and get no coffee because you can't drink it while the trucks moving or in gear.1 guy I know got written up for changing the radio station why the truck was moving..people are leaving this company right and left

13  📷 cameras watching your every move, watch you working the oil, 3 watch you inside the cab, the driver turn over is  incredible. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
As mentioned before getting called in for any infraction from weeks ago cought on the 14 cameras

You are guilty first, same 2 infractions by different drivers, 1 gets verbal the next a write up 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
The equipment is well maintained,  new trucks, older trailers. If anything is written up, truck cant be moved, the electric logs are great, when they work
