These are my opinions and my experience working for this company. Do not leave a secure job to work for this place. I was personally invited to apply for my position, which I did. I left a good company where I was excelling, great people to work with, great benefits and owners who really cared and took care of their employees. But I took the risk to advance in my career. After I was hired, I found out their Healthcare was little to none, which was a huge difference than what I had or have had in the past. There is no life insurance, 401 or retirement. You have to do this on your own. They do provide you options to use on your own. I was lead to believe in the interview process they had good benefits. When I started I was left pretty much on my own with little to no training. I was penalized for asking questions. Everyone but 1 employee in the accounting office was new including the controller, senior accountant and head of the accounting department, which he quit approximately 2 weeks after he started. The position I took, the previous employee left it a mess with no direction on who was who, how and when payments were due. I was blamed for things that I was told to do, trained to do and for other things employees had done. When I would bring attention to management things that were due to be paid I was told to wait then the following week got blamed for it not being completed. Was told to pay certain things only to find out management never released payments. Which created unhappy customers, vendors and Project Managers. They didn't care that vendors were going to put liens on customers properties because of lack of payments. I was told one thing, even repeated to make sure we were on the same page, only to have it come back on me as told different then what was said. Once I started following up and documenting these issues via email or other ways, so it was in writing, I was let go. The day before I was let go I was told that I was doing a good job and they would be keeping me. It was unfair to be blamed for lack of training, training explained and walked through procedures that were incorrect and for things done prior to me even working there. Stay away from this company as you will only end up getting fired for things out of your control. Employees talk about other employees behind their backs and think it is funny how many people are hired and fired so quickly. You will be the escape goat for higher management. There has not been a job I have had in the past, that I had not excelled in. You will be hired to fail even before you begin working there. 

a typical day as an outside sales rep for TruGreen goes like this, 11am you get to the shop, you get your route and are on the road by 12pm, eat some lunch and by 1pm your knocking your first door, by 330 or 4 o'clock you're taking a break and if you finished your route and haven't made any sales you get to re-knock all those door of the people that weren't home and just got home from work to bug the S*** out of them while they're trying to relax and spend time with their families. oh and your day doesn't end until atleast 830pm or 9pm at night....but, the ServiceMaster corp. is a decent company to work for, the weekly base pay as a door to door sales rep of $500 was decent for TruGreen and $401.68 after taxes, the mileage compensation could have been a lot better then $.20 a mile and they could have given a little more effort forth into getting the mileage on your check each week... but to say the least at almost 60 hours a week and a $401.68 paycheck after taxes wasn't all that great... you're out in the hot sun, or walking in the rain (nothing to heavy, but if it's a light moderate shower you still get to knock) ... and after 3weeks of actual training you get to start doing it yourself, you get to shadow someone for a day and then you're on your own... they train you on how to be a pretty decent sales rep with their cheesy kind of lines of  " I just had to stop by and ask, what are you doing for your lawn this year" and " Is that what you did last year too?" pretty easy stuff you think in training, then once you're out there sweating your peanuts off in 90 degree heat all day long going door to door, being tracked down every second of every minute on an Iphone... it's not really worth it, I got let go from failure to advance (in making Sales) so if you go 1 week without a sale, you can just go ahead and start looking for another job... the exercise was nice tho, getting to walk around all day drinking tons of water and hoping you don't pass out from heat exhaustion is a sure winner in my book! and as far as management goes... I was told to call one person from another form of management, to call another person who is too busy to answer, and when you finally get ahold of someone it's atleast 1hour later.

You are expected to work constantly. If you request a small amount of time off, you could most likely be asked to go into the office during that time, even if you have an important engagement outside of work. Franchise owners curse and are inappropriate with the few employees within this group and shrug off warnings that this is not acceptable behavior. Professionalism is non-existent. The company will never be able to grow, so room for advancement is a mute point. Compensation agreements are a moving target and, although you may press the issue, you will not be able to obtain them in writing. Consequently, they will not be honored as promised initially. Your location is monitored at any time through the GPS in your company telephone, including hours when you are not working. No desire exists to exceed customer expectations regarding performance and product. The warehouse mitigation facility has never been created, despite the need to do so to meet corporate and insurance company needs. The daily operational attitude is to "punt" and react if group is placed in a difficult position, vs. planning ahead for such. As a result, chaos is common place and can be very disruptive. The result of the above information is a VERY low morale and strong desire from all of the employees to leave for greener pastures. The rate of attrition is extremely high.

I worked with some great people at ServiceMaster.  ServiceMaster used to have a great system of values and culture.  As management changed  several times in the last few years so did the culture.  Historically, the company put focus on caring about employees.  The employees, in turn, were willing to go the extra mile because they were invested in the company and its success, not just for money, but because everyone truly cared about each other and the customers.  There are still many of those people at ServiceMaster and they are some of the best people I have had the privilege of working with in my career.  ServiceMaster is now proudly a "performance culture".  However, that type of culture can have some very dire unintended consequences depending on how leadership implements it. Sometimes, if not properly implemented, "performance culture" can turn into succeeding at other's expense, or devolve into blaming and finger pointing because employees are punished for mistakes rather than encouraged to learn from them.  In such a culture, there is less risk taking and people become demoralized as it turns from "perform and be rewarded" to "perform or else...".  One of the ways performance cultures fail is through a lack of clear and frequent communication.  Also, you might find managers deciding to have what should be a private conversation, where there is opportunity for honest discussion, in public where it is more difficult to defend without offending and quickly demoralizes employees.  Good leaders, and there are some at ServiceMaster, understand how their behavior impacts employees and they do not put short term profit over proper treatment of employees, customers, and business partners.

I would open the office at 7:45 every morning. Check messages on voicemail and make any changes to cleaners schedule.  I would check the computers to make sure Right Now and CIS (Customer Information Systems were working properly. I would get any linens out of the dryer and sort them out for ladies to put in their cleaning bags. The cleaners would begin to arrive around 8 a.m.  Offered explanations of any special instructions/directions to arrive the ladies safe and prompt arrival at customer's home at the time of arrival specified to customer.  Conducted 5 minute safety/daily meeting every morning.  Once ladies left office to begin their day then I would begin to put my appointments together, confirm my consultation appointments, and head out of the office. In between my consultations quality control checks and cleaner supervision was provided to assure positive customer retention. I managed office for 5 months until candidate for Branch Manager was chosen. Trained new manager on the daily operations and customer based information.


The hardest part of the day was making sure everything was done effectively since there were so many tasks, but I loved my customer's and had given them my word that I would take care of them/their homes.  I built a very strong customer rapport with my customer's, and although not with the company anymore: I still talk to the customer on a regular basis. They have become more than customers they are now considered as my extended family.

I worked from home so my day started early and ended late.I traveled quite a bit so when I was at home I spent the vast majority of my time on the phone working with franchises and following up on commitments  I had made or that  franchises  had made to me. When I was on the road I spent 10 to 12 hour a days working with franchise owners and that their staff on process improvement, financials and marketing and advertising.
I learned a great deal about the franchises business in general and  what it takes to be successful in the franchise business. Most importantly I found that I have a natural ability to build relationships with small business people and that without their trust you will never  successful.
I had a great relationship with my co-workers. All of them were dedicated to the company and to seeing that every franchise was successful. We often helped each other with issues involving a franchise and there was an atmosphere of whatever it takes  within the group which made it an enjoyable place to work.
The most difficult thing I had to deal with was telling a franchise that perhaps they were cut out to be an owner. While I never enjoyed this, I also felt that in those instances where it had to be done that it was the right thing to do. What I really enjoyed was seeing a franchise succeed and build a business or helping a franchise turn around a struggling business. dayThis was fantastic and it was the driving force in how approached each and every 

I am absolutely floored by these positive reviews! Servicemaster was tge absolutely worst company that I had ever worked for. I can't believe that I stayed as long as I did.

My employers were all related, so if you had an issue with one, you could be sure that it would not be handled in an unbiased manner.

Pay was low, workload was absolutely unreasonable, absolutely no benefits or incentives. For example, you were allowed 5 vacation days per year, no matter if you were there for 1 year or 20 years, all unpaid. Constant threats of termination over the most minute infractions, such as forgetting to clock in or not getting to work because of snow or ice storms.

I was always a dependable employee who always did my job well, but Servicemaster ground me down to the point that I absolutely not take another day of their threats and intimidating tactics.

Their turnover is so high that a lot of new hires work a matter of days before seeing the real score and then just stop showing up for work. Then the workload falls onto the rest of us while the management tries to lure in the next victim.

This is just a small example of what they are like.

My advice for anyone job hunting is to bypass this Co. and keep looking. You will never get anywhere with the backbreaking work, unreasonable demands, and low pay and no benefits.

A typical day in my last position as start-up specialist was to contact all of our new franchisees and establish their status in completing their training in operating a ServiceMaster franchise. I assisted them through their training until they had completed their Quality Vendor certification. First thing you learn is that there is no typical day. Your hours are from 8am -5pm, but you were available 24/7-365 days a year. You learn to manage your time and assist the franchisees in managing their time and still be able to meet all of our deadlines. The most enjoyable part of my job was to meet people from all over the United States and after helping them through the training process succeed in becoming full functioning franchises. It is wonderful to see people succeed! At ServiceMaster Clean you work in a team environment and I was lucky to work with 6 teams across the US of business development managers, product managers, and the training department. I worked with the best teams in the country. Everyone performed their jobs and worked with the other team members to meet our goals and deadlines. I have to say it was a true team effort in every case.

Service Master Restoration is a nationwide company that deals with house fires, house floods and also molds in homes. My day would consist of loading trucks for crew members for the job they are assigned and that would be loading customers content, machinery and stocking trucks with materials the crew will use throughout the day.I would document the materials I took out of the warehouse and put it in the computer, so my other co-workers and I know when to order more materials and chemicals. I also made files for each customer to keep track of each paper that is signed and I filed them and kept track as to where they went, and what paper went into the file and also made a second copy to the computer. I clean content throughout the day with two other co-workers, I also clean rugs wrap them up and send them back to the customer. My job is to keep contact with customers to keep them updated on their content and answer any questions the customer may have. I keep track of where each customers content goes in the warehouse everyday. I know when each item came into the warehouse and also exited the warehouse. I learned how to keep organize and how to manage to deal with multiple customers at a time. This job helped me become stronger with the lifting of boxes, and furniture I did. It helped me learn how to use computers more and other websites, I learned to answer phone calls properly and keep customers happy and stress free.

you would organize your linens, and begin going to your rooms to change the beds, if anything was on beds you moved it off but was sure to put it back on, picked up garbage in can and on floor, made sure everything is left neat and cans,ete picked up if empty, you would go on one side of bed your partner on other and work together to change the beds and then check room,we were oin first floor along with another crew as we were the fastest crew so when we got done we did the second floor and even though others did the next two floors we would go up to help so they could get done everyone got along and it was like one big family, our boss and his wiofe worked right along with us if needed, The hardest part of ther job was to really be sure that in the old sheet or pillow cases there was nothing like a ring or something valuable and if they had their own pillows and pillowcases not to get them mixed up with the other linen. The most enjoyable part of my job was gaining so many peoples confidence as everone got to where they would let me have the keys to unlock the doors and know if I went ahead and did up a room as sometimes we were short a girl and I would work alone on my side.I
