A typical workday started with answering the emails in our Outlook email inbox received the previous night and in the morning. Replying e-mails has to be done, first priority because most of them were urgent. Then responding to voice mails and after that I started my scheduled work for the day. First was the preparation of monthly bank reconciliation for the bank statements that has arrived. Analysis is important for this and so it takes about an hour to do to complete this. I did about 30 bank reconciliations; payments of payables and replenishments of patents and trademarks funds to 6 branch offices. It was a hectic day everyday and a day of absence or leave would really cause a delay or backlog in the workload. Yet it was an enjoyable work since I've been doing accounting job for the past 35 years.

Never a dull moment at Sheppard. For those who are looking for a fast paced, never ending stream of work to engage in then Sheppard is your firm. However, don't plan on keeping a normal 9-5 schedule if you will be working as a Litigation Support Specialist. This is a position with little to no balance and you will be expected to support any and all request on your time regardless of whether it's late in the evening, early in the morning, or weekends. Great for someone who enjoys working under these conditions though I found it highly unsustainable  and they did have high turnover in this position.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Sheppard at Support managers.  They are the worst I have ever encountered in my 40 years of being in the legal field.  Very non-compassionate and non-supportive - no people skills.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The rest of the firm is fine.  Sheppard at Support group is not fine because of the managers.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
was very stressful but received great support from team members.  The managers, however, are destroying the department.

This was a great place to work and learn.  My typical days were more on an organizational level for the 4 attorneys I worked for.  I organized calendars and made appointments, red-lined documents, printed emails for filing, made copies, opened new client matters, etc.  My co-workers are still my friends, most of them extremely down-to-earth and likable.  The hardest part of the job was my long commute from Thousand Oaks to Century City.  And the most enjoyable part of this job was was seeing friends each day, they made the work environment pleasurable.

Successfully initiated redesigned Daily Cash Flow Statement (DCFS), streamlined and systematized DCFS distribution process resulting in increased statement comprehension and rapidly accelerating delivery throughout intrastate system (prior to the installation of a network e-mail system).
Redesigned and systematized annual contribution calculation resulting in reduction of time needed for auditing, and minimizing exposure to risk.
Successfully transitioned traditional record-keeping plan to daily record keeping.

What is the best part of working at the company?
This firm is very staff oriented!!

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
So far, none. It has a friendly work environment. Attorneys as well as staff are all nice.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Super friendly with a very few exceptions. The administrator has been with the firm for more than 30 years, which tells you how the firm manages it's people. Very low turnover. People retire here, not leave.

Very busy, from morning to the end of the day.  I learned so much of how we opened and process our matters so our billers can bill the clients.  Management was good.  My co-workers were a pleasure to work with. When I was a Receptionist and File Clerk.  The hardest part of the job was being the only file clerk for over 12+ offices and working diligently to open the matters in a timely matter.  I enjoyed the whole experience of doing my job and working with such wonderful people.

Sheppard Mullin is a good place to work. They have great benefits and its an overall great work environment. The only issue for me is that there is no option to advance at all. I have shown that I have more skills than required to perform my duties and it goes unnoticed. The management in the office could be a bit better as well.

I worked for Sheppard Mullin via Special Council and found the office staff and attorneys to be very professional.  Everyone I interacted was knowledge about subject matters and helpful when instructing on new projects or office equipment.  All of the computer systems were state of the art and up to date with the lasts software.  Sadly, it was only a temporary assignment.

During my tenure at the firm I had the opportunity to improve my drafting and negotiating skills by access to colleagues and forms that were state of the art for the legal industry.  I was provided with the tools that I required to succeed.
