I encourage the Social Security Director to review and fully understand the rules and guidelines outlined in the partners’ and employees’ contracts before making any decisions. Employees deserve to be treated professionally, with clear communication and fair treatment, rather than facing sudden terminations without prior notice based on groundless reasoning. 

Additionally, assistants were often expected to perform case manager duties beyond the scope of their contracts, yet faced frustration from management when they expressed concerns. We’re here to assist case managers, not do their job for them.

A more supportive and trusting work environment would greatly improve morale and productivity.

Working at Shook & Stone was one of the worst experiences in my entire life. The work environment is hostile, and partners micromanage to an unbearable degree. There have been many instances of John Shook telling employees that they cannot go home until their work is done. Rudeness from management is a daily occurrence, creating an atmosphere of fear and discomfort. This toxic culture has led to an alarmingly high turnover rate, which is expected to exceed 100% by the end of the year. I would not recommend this firm to anyone seeking a respectful and supportive workplace. 

They lied their way into being a "Top Workplace" by telling employees that if they win, they will raffle off a 75" TV, that they never even raffled off after winning.

Stay away! The management and partners are horrible. They will make you travel and then tell you to work remotely to finish your work. They will not be happy until you are working 24/7. This counts in airports, airplanes, hotel rooms, and at your own home. 

The pay are horrendous based on their expectations. $65,000 was their starting offer, their health insurance sucks and was overpriced. Their vacation accrual doesn't start until after 90 days and you are not even eligible for a 401k until after a year. 

Between the job itself, salary, and "benefits," you will regret going to law school.

They hired a new manager who knew nothing she did not like me. After she became permanent after 30 Days. She lied on me and I was fired. Long story short, I beat them at getting my unemployment benefits after they tried to deny me. I found out later, she got fired for going what she lied and claimed I did. Needless to say, the partners didn’t speak with me about the what she claimed I did, they just let he fire me. I was the top performer, I bet they lost a lot of money once I left. Oh and they will hire anyone. Like literally, anyone. 

The overall work environment was stressful and overly monitored, I can say the management style often felt dismissive and unapproachable, which made it difficult to voice concerns or ask for help. There was a noticeable lack of trust in employees, with constant surveillance and little room for autonomy.  Expectations were high, but compensation did not reflect the workload or pressure.  Little to no recognition for hard work, which affected morale across the team.


It’s quite embarrassing that the partners say that they have been working for 20 years, and are still doing it so wrong. Every week something changed, and then one of the partners would forget and spaz out over a protocol he changed. You can get bombarded with work and they refuse to give you overtime. Yet they expect you to do all the work or they will be angry when the most minimal tab isn’t filled out. Good luck getting chewed out and belittled for an hour because you forgot a note or mislabeled a document. There is low employee morale. People either quit or get fired so much the majority of the people are new. 

If you would like to be verbally abused for $15/hour this is the place for you! The clients speak very rudely to you about issues outside of the firm’s control, but you likely get to take the brunt of it. The management in this department will stunt your growth. Not only due to their child-like, clique behavior, but for the fact that there is almost no growth within the company. Outside of the management, less than 5 employees have been there for a year. This job is good for entry level beginnings, but should likely be regarded as nothing more. 

Partners actually litigate their cases, so they are very involved.  Management is flexible and compassionate.  Supportive office culture and all hands on deck approach between the departments.  You don't have the typical micro-aggressions that seem to exist in high stress workplaces.  All in all, a very structured, supportive work environment.

There are concerns regarding sudden terminations without prior notice under the social security department, which can be unsettling and feel inconsistent with standard procedures. Additionally, employees may be asked to take on tasks beyond their job description. Declining these tasks can sometimes result in negative feedback or perceptions of incompetence. Greater transparency, clearer communication, and respect for role boundaries would contribute to a more positive and fair work environment.

The staff and attorneys are some of the nicest people I’ve worked for. They reward high quality work.  I looked forward to my job.

The competitions to get the most leads. It was stressful in a fun way.

Fair and comfortable. You’re judged on your work. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I had fun competing with the other workers when they’d have a bonus day where the winner would get an extra perk.
