• The management is terrible.  They do not communicate well with their employees.  They don’t return phones calls nor follow through on their basic job responsibilities when you reach out to them for help.  

• The nurses, especially the (LPNs = “Little Play Nurses”) are lazy, especially on third shift.  They ride the clock all night and spring into action about 4 a.m. when the shift is almost about to end so that it’ll appear as if  they’ve been working all night.  God forbid if you go into a resident’s room do a “necessary” change on them and the resident request to see the nurse for something. 

 Then, the nurse is resentful toward you because she had to get off her toosh and walk a few feet down the hall to see about her patient.   They won’t answer a call light when they know your assisting a resident because they’re afraid they might have to get their hands dirty by getting a blanket, a drink of water, adjusting the air conditioning for their patient, so they let it ring for 25 minuets until you’re done.  They ought not even be called nurses. 

• The work load is too much and unbalanced.  Some CNAs will be assigned to care for as many as 26-27 residents plus get-ups, and charting on all those people, while others will have as few as 9-11 depending on if you have favor with the scheduling coordinator.  I worked full time, and the rotation was you work three days and one day off, with one weekend per month off.  With this grueling schedule, I felt that I was never off.

• The salaries for CNAs is insulting, especially for the amount of work you’re expected to do.  You’ll have lots total care residents including: Alzheimer’s, beriactric, mental health issues, scabies, shingles, large runny stools, and a hosts of other challenging and difficult, labor intensive work.

• Also, the supplies were often scarce on third shift including towels, bed pads, and hygiene wipes, which by the way, were of poor quality.  I often found myself doing laundry and housecleaning chores in the middle of the night in addition to my direct patient care duties just so that I could have the supplies  I needed to make it through my shift.  

When I came to Signature, I had every intention to stay employed there fo a long term.  I came to work on time and I gave good quality care to the residents, but under these working conditions, I was burnt out in two months.  I hung in there for four months, and I tried to voice these concerns to management but, to no avail.

• Profits over Care.  Keep in mind that Signature Healthcare is a “for profit” corporation.  They’re in business to make money.   Since payroll is one of their biggest expenditures,  it would be in they best interest to keep wages as low as possible.  So, if they can pay one CNA 10-11 dollars an hour  with no shift differential ( assigned to 26 residents) to do the work of four CNAs,  the more money they can save and pocket for themselves.  

• Insuing Coflicts.  Because my workload was so heavy, sometimes it just wasn’t possible for me to get everything done in that eight hour shift.  And I mean after having worked from the minute I clocked in..  On several occasions,  I would clock out for my break, but use the time to do charting just to assure that it would get done. 

 When the first shift nurses and CNAs would arrive in the morning and complain about certain things not being done, I knew it was time to go.  When they came in the morning, the 26 residents that I was assigned to on the 3rd Shift would be split among a least 3 CNAs, giving them about 8 to 9 residents to care for opposed to my 26.  

They had no idea that I just spent 3 1/2 hours of my shift showering and cleaning up after one resident who trashed and soiled four rooms plus two bathrooms and a entire corridor with runny feces.  I did this clean up all by myself while the nurses and CNAs watched me from down the hallway, socializing with each other and offered offered no assistance even as the call lights in my other rooms were ringing.  

I include these details, so that you can understand what was going on there.

• I  know this review is long but, I hope it was helpful for anyone thinking about joining Signature Healthcare,  and hopefully this review can help Signature make improvements that will help them become better healthcare providers.  I have no axe to grind with them.   I’m just giving an honest review based on my experience there.

The first red flag about this company was the hiring process. I was hired on the spot. I put my application in and boom I was called and hired within 3 days. They literally kept asking when do you want to work. I explained how I'm a nursing student and I'm only looking for PRN part-time. The base was 12.95 as a CNA. I have over 8 years in healthcare experience as a Phlebotomist, CNA, and Medical Assistant. I refill Prescriptions, do EKGs, triage, take vitals, give shots, medications , and whatever else is needed at my other job. They do not pay based on experience. She said oh we give a shift differential. 15.20 to babysit old people while they slept was ok with me. I accepted the offer. They had called me to say my background failed...Second red flag. I've never so much as been convicted of a parking ticket. Can't be right, well it wasn't right supposedly the front desk Receptionist submitted my background check information. She mixed up the last two digits on my social security number. Why would a receptionist be handling my social security number and hiring information? I heard excuse and at the point I didn't want to work there anymore. I needed the money to cover books so I proceed. I went for orientation. The person I interviewed with was extremely nice. She was a nursing student also. She made it clear you could go far in long-term healthcare. She also said I wouldn't recommend doing this job longer than 10 years. Complete contradictions is all I got from management in this place. The mangers say one thing then when they clock out they don't answer the phones. Back on topic I NEVER WAS DRUG TESTED!!!!!!! BIG RED FLAG!!!!!!!!!! I occasional use marijuana. I was ready for a drug test I never received. I received ONE day of orientation training!!! They say oh we won't force you out on your own. The CNAs are so cliquey if you want help using a lift from your fellow teammates then you better not make waves.
 P.S.A.:  Regardless you're on your own!!! there just isn't enough staff for proper care. No one use a second while operating the lift!!! I asked the DONs daughter she brought the lift into my residents room and closed the door. I guess her unsaid advice was don't get caught. They half document falls. They don't chart concurrently with giving care. Employees gossip, completely unprofessional, the only clean part in that facility is the parts guest might be able to see. They always run out of supplies you are worked multiple 12s in a row. The reward system is a joke. The pinnacle raise system says you get a raise of $2 after two years if you're a good back breaking puppet. The Nurses act like call lights and changing briefs are beneath them. Sorry but perianal care is essential. It prevents UTIs and all nurses SHOULD  know this. Everyone is always falling because there's no help. People show up when they want too. They leave when they want to. My typical day was spent going through hampers to find clean linen. That places needs new management, re training, an employee retention committee, and more. I worked there for two months before I handed my two week notice in...the DON calls me saying NO please don't leave we are buying a new facility it going to be beautiful. Well good of you to know your facility is dirty. I voiced my concerns he said ok we can work with your new schedule. We will get better leadership....the change he implemented was a group text....yes they do a binder and communicate through text. Everyone is incontinent!!!! They are so mean to the residents!!! They don't update the care plan sheets daily!!!! They keep preaching change but they really need to shut that place down clean up, re train every employee, give a test at the end!!! Fun fact they will give you the answers if you don't know they're that desperate. 

They couldn't pay me enough to return back!!! I quit twice and they kept calling me to come in!!! Even after a formal I quit in writing!!! I felt so bad for the residents. I was having to spend my own money on food because some CNAs wouldn't feed them as punishment. The food was horrible in there!!! They called me for a shift and I said I'm not coming back unless you up my pay...she said oh well I didn't know they terminated you. Wait what I quit and you kept calling me saying you had no one else! How juvenile.

No 401k matching, no sick leave, no cost of living increases, really easy to max hourly salary, do not accrue PTO in November or December, poor insurance. I came into this organization knowing that these were issues, but felt they were outweighed by the promise of working for an organization that would offer unparalleled opportunities to learn and network. Moreover, work/life balance was a stated core principal. 

My first three months saw that the promise delivered, but no organization is perfect. There were some growing pains, but I saw the organization honestly attempt to address issues. Then during a financial downturn, I saw the company quickly turn on its heels. Austerity was the new thing. Our manager who treated us all as humans was reassigned, replaced with a micromanager from a different department who insisted that they knew our department's job better than we did. This persisted even after faux pas during training sessions, being gentle told they were mistaken on several occasions, needed redirected during meetings, and so on. 

The new leadership was never interested in learning what we did, and even when we delivered while we were short handed, even when we blew out goals, we were still treated as if we were not giving enough to the cause. Our only thanks was empty lip service concerning work life balance, and more weekend hours, more stress, less support.

We were suddenly asked to work every holiday, 7 days a week, after we were promised that this would not be the case. Broken promises continued to pile up as morale continued to decline. Leadership sneered as many team members had to make the hard decision to leave after years of service. But the new leadership doubled down, and refused to offer sufficient training to new members, who asked to sink or swim. 

Our department is central to our organizations mission and revenue stream. But as other departments inquired about our increasing difficulties, our leadership decided to double down on changes, and continue to renege on promises, offering new hires flexible scheduling, only disclosing that there would be no flexibility and forcing people into working 12 straight days on once a month, without regard to previous agreements.

I thoroughly respected my previous manager, and my team continues to strive to do work that we are proud of, working to the high standard that the previous manager set. My previous manager lead by example, and never asked more of us than they did of themselves. I am ashamed of who we have become, and how we have been restructured into a blind department, where one hand doesn't know what the other is doing, all while watching teammates drown in work and struggle to keep up with personal lives as the expectation of the work day is stretched far beyond 8 hours, and individuals are asked to sacrifice PTO, all while leadership pander and waste time, are unavailable, and leave early in the day or squirrel away time for themselves. Rules for thee and not for me. When questions are asked from higher ups, all of the problems are laid at the feet of team members. 

Signature Healthcare bought out Balanced Care Bloomsburg, Pa in Nov or Dec 2015.  Balanced Care was a wonderful place to work and everyone who worked there was like family.  Since Signature has taken over...it gets worse and worse daily.  Employees pay has not gone up although we were told it was "being looked at* by corporate. Yet everyone in every department has had their workload doubled.  There's not one employee there now who doesn't walk around stressed to the max...and that includes employees that have worked there 20+ years.  They have some of the greatest staff ever...and everyone is overwhelmed and miserable.  Signature prides itself of resident care.  What a joke!  They have cut the amount of CNA's that work the floor on every shift and it's lost it's reputation as the best nursing home in the area.  Reputation is now "Just as bad as any other nursing home around".  This is quite sad considering Balanced Care had the best reputation for many many years.  They are also the lowest paid facility in the area.  Balanced Care was too but since people enjoyed their job they didn't mind.  In the last month alone I can think of 10 employees from Nurses to CNA's to Office Staff and Kitchen Staff who have handed in their resignation due to the terrible atmosphere the place has become in 5 short months of Signature taking over.  I lost track of how many resigned in the previous months.  The company also has implemented a new attendance policy where if you are even one minute late for your shift...12 times in a year you are terminated.  Never mind the fact that you don't always get out on time when your shift ends...sometimes staying a half hour or more...being one minute late is against their policy and they are willing to fire staff who have worked there for several years over 1 minute of being tardy.  They have also thrown down the mandation card saying if they don't have enough staff for the next shift or if there is call offs then people have to stay.  I find this funny considering the old administrator always told us the only way they would mandate is for a state emergency or bad weather.  And they would pay you double time if you stayed.  Not Signature!  They don't care about their employees and especially don't care about having enough staff to cover the floors.  The extra time we used to have with Balanced Care to go the extra mile and do extras for the residents and actually have time to spend time and comfort them is gone.  It's rush rush rush...bust your butt day in and day out attempting to even accomplish half of what you are expected to do.  I could go on and on but it just makes me sad.  I will miss my residents and some awesome coworkers when I leave....but I am actively persuing other employment because my decision to dedicate my life to being a caregiver was to give the residents the best care that they so truely deserve.  Not to work like a slave at the lowest paid facility around because it's all about the $$$$ to this company and cutting staff and whatnot so the higher ups make their bonuses and whatever else.  And don't try to talk to any of the higher ups in the building or from corporate when they make their occasional visit because they do not listen to anyones concerns.  You know things are bad when people who have worked there a decade or more are jumping ship.

I have a passion for the elderly and as a nurse I thought I had  the perfect place to implement that. I could not have been more wrong. They claim to be a "Christian" company with morals and values. They do not support you or give proper training for that matter. I feel like this company failed me in so many ways. Cooperate leaders do come around often, however it is only to make negative statements to you. I have never before  woke up every day dreading going to work until I worked at Rockford Manor. This is not why I became a nurse. There is favoritism and everyone is not held to the same working standard. The receptionist is rude and acts like she hates all the staff. When you ask her a question she always has a bad attitude and pages you from down the hall and interrupts med pass or other patient care for calls she knows are not for you, I believe that she does this on purpose. The scheduler  picks and choses who she approves for vacation based on her like for you. Several complaints about her have been made to the administrator with no resolve. The company has a line that is designed to help called the care line, thats the biggest joke of all. If you call with a concern they send you an email 3 days later saying your concern has been closed but nothing happens. The activities director is never in the building and when she is she makes some excuse to go home leaving the assistant to do all the work. Some of the managers openly gossip about the Director of Nursing and a few the other managers and employees, which I consider to be disgusting behavior for managers. I'm disappointed and saddened with this experience. I was so excited to be apart of the signature family but that was far from what I experienced. When errors occur they do not own their mistakes, they instead look to see who they can blame the mistake on. They are always short staffed as well, which means you will be working extremely hard and the residents are the ones who suffer too. Your off days soon become your working days as well. The managers do come on the floor to help, but the pull the regular CNA off the hall they want to work because they think they are easier. They work in pairs when the regular CNAs have to work the same groups alone. The compensation is bad, and does not match the pay at other nursing home facilities. I never felt that my job was secure, and I chose to leave before something happened either to my job or to my license. Most of the management team are just clicky, following, back stabbing bullies who target those they do not like. The culture of this job is not great. Even the administrator falls into the petty behavior, allowing the other managers to be disrespectful and over step their boundries. There is a lot of attitude and arguing in this facility and not much is done about it. In summary, I do not recommend working here. The residents are great but the environment and some of the management are not. Again some the upper management are rude and not supportive. There are a few good ones, but the bad ones are destroying this company and ruining the hard work of others. I advise anyone looking for a job to simply scroll past this company and do not apply. 

I'm having a very hard time writing this review because I did make a lot of friends at Signature Health, there are still some wonderful people there at this time, My coworkers are awesome people who really cared about the patients and their job, as for management and human resources they had no clue what they were doing when it came to anything to do with the medical field, and  there are some supervisors  who really shouldn't be supervisors  because they can't even supervised themselves let alone supervise  somebody  underneath them , At one point in time this company did care for their patients but management made it to the point where the patients became just a number and just more about the money than the patient's well-being and health, healthcare workers for this company get zero breaks and 0 lunches everyone is working short and as for your PTO time or any extra time that you get or earn with this company just because you give them a 30 days notice or even a 2 weeks notice they will keep the money that you put in you do not get it back. I've watched this company try to force patients to see other doctors within his facility and the company would get mad if their patient kept refusing because they had those doctors in different places and we're not with signature. I knew it was time for me to leave when I started questioning supervisors and other management staff about the double billing procedures because they were in fact  double billing let's just say a patient could come in and have two pregnancy tests performed on the same day for two different doctors and they would still bill for that. I felt very uncomfortable with this because that is Medicaid and Medicare fraud and they just keep turning a blind eye to it I knew it was time for me to leave when a supervisor of my department had no clue about policies and procedures or the proper way to care for clean and maintain equipment. This company has a very high turnover rate, and a very high stress anxiety rate among staff this company does not want you to be friends with your co-workers they try to divide everybody they do not believe in everybody helping each other this company will make you second-guess any of your training your medical experience and we'll also make you hate being the person that you are my advice to any RN LPN Ma pharmacy technician or anybody in the medical field looking for a job is to stay away from this place. Hopefully one day this place will go back to caring about the patients and not the almighty dollar or what they can get for free. 

If you love stress and Ignorance this is the place for you to work.  Nobody works as a team. Nurses will not help you because they went to school so they wouldn't have to do cna work anymore. That's what I was told. Nurses are only worried about their smoke breaks and lunch that is it!  I have witnessed the cna's and Nurses treat the elderly like kids and do not care about the residents rights whatsoever!  They throw away papers in a regular trash can breaking the HIPPA act. I was fired because I turned people in for abuse and also let state know. I would not trust them to take care of my dog!!! This place is terrible! Most Nurses and cna's do not care about you or the residents! They are their only for a paycheck and that's not even decent enough to be there for that! The pay sucks! It sounds great at first but then you find you are taking care of at least 15 to 20 people on your own! No team work! People work harder trying to get out of work than they actually work. Most the cna's will leave residents soaked until last round. Nurses scream at the residents to shut up ! Residents are scared that if the nurse gets mad at them then they will not get their meds on time. It is a sad thing to hear the residents talk about how they are treated by the entire staff in the facility. You want to help them and go talk to management, but the residents beg you not to say anything because it would only make things worse. Keep your loved one out of that place unless they are there to get rehab. If they are in their right mind and need rehab/therapy for a short period of time then you have the right place. The rehab staff are awesome! The staff are less likely to miss treat a resident that are in their right mind because they can and will turn them in!!  You basically get paid $3 per person that you take care of, if you have 15 people how many are you going to get taken care of and cleaned up between 3 meals and 30 min charting on all residents , and the 4 or 5 showers you have to give. Staff leave this place daily crying! It is that serious and I wish someone would do something about it! Do something about the Nurses and cna's handing out their diet pills to other nurses and cna's.!!! The ADON is on tn.gov under a disciplinary action report from 2016 and her license were reprimanded. She has not legally changed her last name on her license. The report would make you sick... Pay is no good...The best thing about the facility is the residents that depend on you to care for them and trust you to respect their dignity and their rights. Do you?

The company offers many fringe benefits that are out of the ordinary from other facilities I've worked for in the past. These include continued education programs that offer additional pay per hour, yearly scrub stipend, and discounts with many companies . Unfortunately the management at the Port Charlotte location is incredibly disorganized. There are far too many hands in the pot which make things confusing and frustrating. Many of the "director" positions are just CNAs who have been stuck in open job titles they have been poorly trained to accomplish and their lack of organization and communication are extremely apparent in scheduling and supply ordering. Many of the certified nursing assistants will throw a fit if not assigned to the unit they prefer to work and will simply leave for the shift if they don't immediately get their way. Management shows no signs of reprimanding said behavior as they are in desperate need for CNAs and will do nearly anything to keep the ones who are willing to stay with the company. Training is sorely lacking and nurses are expected to know procedures and policies they received no prior training to handle. Most of the staff live in a dog eat dog environment and many nurses have taken a stance of refusing to assist any of the CNAs with patient care as "that's not their job". This leaves many residents neglected due to extreme short staffing or multiple call offs by scheduled staff. Most new hires barely stay past the first month due to the hostile nature of current staff or feeling over worked by being saddled with far too many patients at once. The only part I'd ever recommend anyone sending their family members to would be the rehabilitation part of the facility. That seems to be the only area anyone in the entire establishment makes any genuine effort to truly care for the patients. 

A poor working environment where people are not held accountable for completing their job duties, with those who take pride in their work and try to do their best expected to take up the slack for those who don't perform their job duties.  Very high staff turnover with frequent changes in the Administrator and DON.  The agency operates primarily with agency staff, with many unfilled nursing and CNA positions. The pay and vacation/sick leave are significantly less that competing facilities; however, corporate management refuses to recognize this fact, instead employing agency staff at a much higher cost that it would take to make wages for hired staff competitive. Staff who have proven to be competent are consistently required to perform duties to either complete other staff members' responsibilities or perform audits to monitor the poor performance of duties.  The time spent on performing tasks other than their primary duties causes salaried staff to have to work overtime hours frequently to complete their primary duties.  There is no trust between staff members or between staff members and management, with a few exceptions where like minded people have banded together.  The atmosphere is one where people frequently blame others for their poor work performance.The patient care is poor with medications errors, resident complaints and even instances of abuse being swept under the rug.  Those who appropriately report such things are accused of having a bad attitude, being discriminatory or handling the situation inappropriately. It is not a place I would ever place a friend or family member for care. It is not a place I would ever recruit other health care professionals known to me to work, despite the fact that bonuses are offered for such referrals.

I worked as Night Shift Supervisor and arrived for my shift at 11 p.m.  I would begin by making assignments. Other duties included providing employee education as needed, following up on patient care provided by staff, assisting staff in provided care as needed, ensuring all work was completed within accordance of facility policies and procedures and the governing agencies. Checking on patients to ensure their safety and following up when necessary. Ensuring that all employee responsibilities were completed within a timely manner and as expected. Stocking units with necessary supplies.  Assisting nurses with transferring patients to the ER when warranted by their condition. Maintaining communication with the DON related to concerns and questions about expectations.  For the most part co-workers arrived on time, were hardworking, and completed their duties as expected.  The hardest part of my job came when I actually had to work a unit due to the assigned nurse calling in sick.  This made it difficult for me to fulfill my supervisor duties.  The most enjoyable part of the job was knowing the patients were safe and well cared for and that the families were pleased with the care provided because of the jobs I performed as well as those of the other staff.
