Silver Oaks Behavioral Hospital

The job expectations for this position, are unmanageable/unrealiatic without the assistance of interns. 
Administration will state 'prioritize better', when you're expected to in a Typical Day:
- run 2 groups and completing ~25 individual notes (1hr to complete group + 30mins-1hr to complete notes)
- complete aftercare planning meetings that last anywhere from 15-30 mins (anywhere from having 1-3/day + the individual notes for each one + ~10-15 mins/each note)
- complete 1-2 psychosocials + collateral (this process can take anywhere from 50mins-1hr)
- complete their master treatment plan, after psychosocial, AND individual treatment plans (30 mins/each)
- discharge paperwork (1-2/day and takes roughly 10mins/each)
*does not include the times dealing with difficult families on the phone* 
*does not include training interns*
*does not include signing off on paperwork for interns*
*does not include responding to passive-aggressive, micromanaging text threads*
*does not include the time it takes to meet with patients who have psychosis, or a code is called on the unit, or when 5/12 patients want to meet with you to talk during the day*
On a non-typical day:
- all of the above
- plus treatment team that lasts for at most, 2 hours, minimum of 1.5 hours

Without interns, your day to day expectations are 10-12 hour work days, at least 3-4x/week. The expectation is to stay until the job is done. With interns, it's fairly manageable.

Administration/Management: and the social services department are both salary based, every other department is hourly. You will not find yourself compensated for overtime in this position.
If you want to take time off work, you have to request a month and a half in advance, for coverage to be found. If you put in the request anytime less than a month and a half notice, it's your responsibility to find someone to cover your shift. If you want to take a personal day, month and a half notice. Per the handbook, it states a minimum of 2 weeks notice, but it is known in the social services department to provide a month and a half notice.
It is also your responsibility to be sure you are provided with the allotted amount of personal/holiday time or administration will not go out of their way to correct it.
Bi-weekly social services meetings are mainly focused on what needs improvement and chart audits; seldomly does it ever focus on the good or feedback from the employees on what could be improved. If that opportunity arises, many do not go out of their way to share, as they are often disregarded.
Additionally, and unfortunately, this is a place that objectively does not allow room for growth. Many of the administrators are previous co-workers, of the other administrators, that are brought on board to join, rather than allowing the opportunity for someone within to grow.

Aside from the micromanaging, the workplace culture is undeniably helpful and often considerate. This job also provides a ton of learning experiences. The people whom you work with is going to be the reason it will be so hard for you to walk away. There are truly, some kind hearted people.

It is taught, being in a position such as this, that we too, have to take care of ourselves and be empathetic in nature. Administration objectively lacks this, as total of 14 therapist have left this position since the spring of 2020, and too many of them have been great therapists who put their heart into their work. It's unfortunate to have witnessed someone who, worked for the company since it opened in 2019, provide a months notice, and was not given so much as a thank you or a goodbye when she left.

This is one of the more organized mental health facilities that I've worked at, for the most part. The pay is better than other facilities in the area, and it is generally clean and well kept up. I feel supported by the coworkers I work the floor with but we are CONSTANTLY under scrutiny from management. They will watch you over the cameras constantly looking for someone to reprimand for doing something wrong. Almost every day we get shifthound notifications telling us all about what we are doing wrong. We had a small outbreak of COVID a couple of months ago where I was directly exposed. If I had not called my supervisor myself or heard the information from my other coworkers, I would've never been reached out to about being exposed. Hardly any updates were given to us regarding who had the virus, what was being done to avoid any future outbreaks, or compensation for actively working on a unit with COVID infected patients. Supervisors are almost never on the same page and we are constantly being told something different. This job is good for the pay, the experience, and the general cohesiveness of the staff. Management absolutely needs to be improved. 

Pretty much what the title says. This was initially a great place to work, with staff and management that you could tell actually cared about their staff and the patients. It of course had some issues like every job does, but overall a majority of staff seemed pretty content. Echoing a lot of these reviews, new management came in and destroyed all of that. The work environment became very toxic as management brought in their own people. The current CEO is especially awful and has flat out told employees that have brought up concerns that they can “just leave if you don’t like it here.” Employee moral boosters such as shift bonuses and holiday parties have been done away with (unless you count lunch in the cafeteria for 2 hours in December as a “holiday party,” which they apparently do). Most of the staff that were there during the old administration are either gone or are just working registry now due to the new administration. Staff safety is now non-existent, severely acute and aggressive patients are now accepted and taken in despite not only a lack of staff but also awful staffing ratios. 

If you’re just doing PRN or registry it’s tolerable since you’re not really there all that much. Full time though at this point? Terrible idea at this point 

Sadly Put, Once New management took over about 2 months ago, not only have numerous professionals in administration resigned, many of the nursing staff, techs, and now therapists have transitioned to PRN if not leaving completely. There's no sense of patient care by the moving of patients from 2-3 units within their 7-10 day stay (meaning going through multiple teams and no consistency of care), multiple floors are understaffed (often leaving 1 tech with over 14 patients- some fall risk, alone to manage on their own), and absolutely no support from upper management other than advisement to give it time and just roll with the punches, while there are consistently no answers when asked about gaining any consistency and reports of families justifiably upset about the lack of care and communication as to why the units fail to provide adequate care. While the upper management continues to state they are there for any questions and concerns, staff continues to leave due to consistently sharing these concerns with no changes made for now months. This place feels much like a sinking ship with new management who if anything has made things profoundly worse. 

Sounds great walking in the door. Then, you meet the staff who are already burned out "sick of this place" ;tension between all facets and alot of blaming. It's literally a revolving door. One comes in smiling, another 2 leave out cussing. Administration only cares about numbers/$ but doesn't care that the real patient problems are not addressed. The only thing they are about is $$$ reimbursement for the patient. Unfortunately not so good insurance will get the minimum number of days allowed then pushed out of the door (with little to no improvement) to open a spot for the "top tier" insurance  holder. It's disheartening. I mentioned that a patient wasn't ready to be discharged only to be told to stay in my lane. I have a love/hate relationship here. I love it, until I absolutely hate it! I pray everyday for guidance on what to do or where to go. I want to leave but I want to stay. In the meantime I will do my best to provide care and advocate for my patients....1 shift at a time!

Silver Oaks started off as a great place to work. I began learning a lot and most people were very friendly. Management changed about 6 months after I started and that’s when some much dysfunction and bad leadership became a consistent problem for the next 6 months  Directors fighting with Doctors which put Social Workers in very stressful situations  day. 
If you believe in patient care don’t come here or bring your family here. They are have meetings about how to extend patient hospital stay. 
Your coworker are often angry or crying throughout the day. Negative 5 stars due up upper management/ directors. 

Overall
Please don’t apply here. This is the worst place to be employed. Management is so unprofessional towards their staff. They belittle you every chance they get. There is no training whatsoever related to the job and then when you make mistakes you get written up for it without any correction. Their expectations are so high and it’s all about the business and money and getting patients in. They don’t care about the patients. It’s all about the census and the money. There is such a high turnover you would think they would stop and question what is going on but they don’t, they just replace you and continue burning people out. Go work anywhere else. They don’t care about you or your growth.

Title says it all. Work never ends and those in admin roles disregard the amount of time it takes for individuals, family sessions and groups in addition to all the documentation required. Some of the psychs presented with “God-complexes”. I learned a lot about mental health, running groups, medications etc. which ended up being good for my career in the long run. Loved working with each and every patient, and made some friends among colleagues along the way. All in all it’s a learning experience type of job until you can’t handle the ridiculously high pressure to be a workhorse and negativity that comes from upper management. 

No support from management.
They pretend to care, appreciate and help, but they don’t. 
It’s a mean girls club in up management, their bullies, and do not care about your well-being, how long your at work, how long you’ve been with the company or what you’ve done for the patients. 
“Time management” is their response for any issue your having. 
They refuse to come and speak to the patients if theirs an issue, and continue to hire staff who don’t care about patients and make the hospital look bad as a whole. 
Only work here if you enjoy being taken advantage of, made fun of, and overworked.

Extremely busy, not a lot of down time. If you work there you will work the whole day. Very tiring
