Skilled Nursing Pharmacy

Worked in the Controls Dept. The learning environment is limited as you are to work in your assigned dept. only. If you want to expand your knowledge and immerse yourself into another dept., good luck (unless you're close to the pharmacy manager). You do the same thing every day: talk to nurses regarding their patient's narcotic orders and assess whether those orders need rapid emerg. verbal authorization from the prescriber or if they can wait for written authorization, obtain narcotic refills, answer the same questions every day as to why the patient's narcotics haven't arrived or been approved by the prescriber yet, and once in a blue moon you'll get clinical questions from prescribers or nurses that make you use your critical thinking skills and feel appreciated from said health professionals upon answering (be prepared for condescending attitudes from prescribers and nurses otherwise). No room for raises or promotions.  In every dept. you will find the few that do most of the work while the rest of the group are chatting, sleeping, or on their phones. You'll be happy to work here if you don't mind doing the same thing every day and don't care about expanding your skillset or becoming a well-rounded pharmacist. 

The pay is horrible, forget about raises, the owner/management could care less about what you do for the company and its employees worth to said company. It's an intro into the closed door world in pharmacy but beyond that, good luck. Security is there, there are no repercussions for being a horrible employee, so no worries there. The most you will get is an email or something. Don't you worry if you have no idea or don't care about doing an average job in the very least because they will depend on the underpaid and overworked staff they manage to keep around. And if someone complains against you, "haha" jokes on them because NOTHING will happen. Unfortunate because some of the ppl that work/worked there are actually great. Most pharmacists are easy going and don't have mega egos...most. Parking is a nightmare when it's fully staffed. Management is not oblivious to these issues, they just don't care to make a change because THEIR pockets are good. Kind of like a stubborn relative, where they could be great if they just listened & got their stuff together but their pride doesn't let them be great. 

This wasn't the worst job I had, but it was probable the most unorganized, disorderly company I've ever worked for. Almost everyone I worked with was in a constant state of agitation, overload and tension really to no fault of their own. It got to the point where some coworkers started showing physical signs of stress other than head and stomach aches. Upper management never stood up for these people, and instead of fixing internal issues, they'd blame their workers and companies they service. Lots of practices at this workplace would sometimes leave me with a heavy conscience thinking of their customers. If this company just worked with each other, they could solve a lot of their problems. And don't expect to have a parking space within a 5+ minute walk of the pharmacy if your shift or interview starts at 10-11am. From the fluorescent lights to the overwhelming odor of food being cooked just added to the stress level as well. HR was another issue; probably the most uncaring and passive aggressive HR I've worked for, which I've NEVER experienced with any HR worker in my life. It was definitely an experience.

Received phone orders day in and day out from nursing facilities, retirement homes, and hospitals from all over California. I learned to be responsible with our patients requests because not doing my job in time can mean difficult situations at the end of the day. I always did the job on hand and learned from other peoples mistakes. I also learned how to keep good communication with those of difficult manners, how to keep a level head when people give you a hard day. My co workers were always supportive and reliable when I faced a problem I never had before. The hardest part were always the nurses who were frustrated with not receiving the orders they requested. I learned from those experiences and worked them out and then the most enjoyable part of the job was when you receive the calls from the nurses that thank you for fixing their problem, getting my job done, and making the preparations needed to resolve an even bigger issue.

There isn't anything good about this company.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
One of the most mismanaged, disorganized, places I've ever worked at. Employees are not appreciated. The restrooms often would not have toilet paper or paper towels because it's "not in the budget." An absolute joke, and the company is kept on life support by the equally terrible LTC facilities they service.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It's a mess. Your input isn't valued. Get your measly paychecks and go home.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Come in, no supplies to do my job, go to the stock room to resupply my station, but it's like a hoarders garage back there. Inventory all over. A layer of dust on everything. You need to initial your name.on every RX you fill. Hope you brought your own pen for that.

Every day in the beginning I would have tasks to finish. I would be either filling up the refill prescriptions, or I would be doing unit dose packaging and pre package the medical blister cards. There would be a time where work would be slow, but that doesn't mean we should do nothing. The next department would give us tasks to do in case they were falling behind. Which they would give us blister cards and hand fill them.
I learned a lot on how to manage my time properly and to work fast and accurate if the refill orders they would be receiving would continue to pile up.
The co-workers were really friendly and helpful during my time working there. It was hard at first because I was to learn how exactly they do things around there. It was enjoyable because we would have our own area to work in while refilling the medications.

Shady place to work, terrible management. Worked hard and believed in this company.  Took over a department,  with 3 times as many employees compared to what I managed before. Wasn't offered a raise, didn't even ask for a raise because I just wanted to help. Demoted from this position after 2 years with no write-up but because doctors complained to pull business because they didn't want to be held accountable for not following the DEA laws pertaining to controlled prescriptions that the company was so willing to turn a blind eye to.

This pharmacy is a joke. Very unorganized, crowded but understaffed. Pharmacistist are rude, have favoritism and refuse to acknowledge their employees requests/complains. Salary was a joke, refuse to give difference when minimum goes up. DRAMA, EVERYWHERE. Working here is only good fresh out of school and to get experience. You’ll be stuck dealing with terrible management, coworkers and terrible pay for the next 15 years. Also the place is outdated, ceiling about to collapse from water damage and PARKING IS NON EXISTENT. Terrible place, by far the worst job I have ever had!

What is the best part of working at the company?
The supportive teams, vision a the leaders and accountability for their actions, lastly the way everyone cares for the residents they serve. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
I would not say it is just this company, but an industry as a whole, lots of moving parts and regulations.

A supportive environment with a foundation of learning from your mistakes.

It varies from day to day, with the number of prescriptions we process, fill, and deliver every day it is never a dull moment.

This is so far the worst place I have worked for. Poor management. Company is more quantity over quality. No raises. No bonus. No room for promotion. Theres no way you can move up in this company. People just don't care. Everyone does what ever they please. I'm surprised this company is still open. By the way it operates it should shut down soon. Some people really know what they are doing and are very good at their jobs, and then you have people who literally get paid to sleep all day long. No joke. Theres people that sleep at the job and no one says anything. No room for improvement. No Values at this company. No real goal. This company seriously is a joke.
