On the surface and during the outset, it seems like a good place to work. Positive features that I found were: helping a needy population, good compensation compared to other rural areas, and less focus on productivity requirements. On the other hand, once I started working there, I found a management culture that created barriers vs built bridges. When legitimate problems/concerns were brought up by an employee, he/she was either targeted or the problem was ignored as if hoping it would go away. I saw the former happen (being targeted) to more than several people in my department, and they ALL left as a result. Even involving HR did not resolve the underlying issue, which was the attitude of management and their lack of ability to understand or know how to effectively respond to employees. This attitude also seemed pervasive throughout the organization. I took note that anyone who appeared outspoken about anything was labeled as unapproachable, which was management's way of putting the blame on the employee vs taking any responsibility. As a result, employees end up feeling unsupported, devalued, and replaceable. I found that this was the reputation the hospital had among other healthcare professionals in the community as well.

I was part of the Patient Accounts team where we posted patient payments, ran the daily deposits from other departments and ran daily reports. Majority of my day was spent researching and submitting refunds to insurance companies that overpaid Sky Lakes.
My major role was contacting insurance companies in order to retrieve funds that were not supposed to be recouped by insurance companies and working with the insurance billers to confirm proper refunding of funds. 
Outside of our immediate department I was able to communicate with other departments such as Financial Counseling, Accounting and several others. Everyone I encountered was professional, courteous and kind. 
Sky Lakes provides a 401k, option of an HSA through their insurance plan and a nice arrangement for vacation time. 
I am sad to be leaving Sky Lakes and I recommend them as an employer. 

sky lakes ER is a horrible place to work there management bullies you, threatens you and does everything to get you to quit if they don't like you. if they can't get you to quit they will find reasons to try to get you in trouble for stupid ridiculous things. They have charge nurses that shop on line and play on the computer all night and take  a ton of smoke breaks all night instead of working. techs and RN"s that sit and talk all night and play with there phones  instead of working. When you complain to management about it they thow it in your face and nothing is done about it. Management lets the staff they like do anything they like including not working. this could be the reason all night shift RNs are new RN,S and there is only 1 nurse at night that has been there more than 2 years. most of the ER is ran by travels because no one wants to work there. The ER is ran like a high school. you have to be part of the in crowd with management or they make your life miserable.

I am an RN, MSN. With such a negative, though beautiful  remodel. You get MD ,RN, LPN and ancillary staff to match, who wants this on their CV or Resume.
Severe shortage of care providers.You can sit on a list for over 2 years if lucky.
They have started a residency program to indenture MD's seeking a residency program to complete their training.
I had to assist the ER MD whose specialty was to be OB GYN to stitch up my husband's 6 inch head gash.
It needed irrigated and Saline was running everywhere.
2 nurses were sitting directly across from us talking.
I have run Mt Shasta Mercy Hospital, very rural....
I had never heard of a hospital so bad it was given a negative name.. Due to a care ptovider I spent 16 months with an untreated neck and t-spine fractures which healed deformed taking 12 hours to repair and straighten where they could have sent me immediately. 
RUN AWAY, WHETHER, PATIENT OR PRACTIONER.

I worked in the ER for a number of years. Initially the ER team was motivated and consistent with providing good care but the longer I worked there the less the nurses voices were heard by upper management.  Policies and procedures were not always followed. Several iindividuals were promoted that did not have seniority or observation of good wook ethics. 
     There was good rapport with other units and ancellary personel. The doctors treat the nurses well most of the time. 
    Upper managment needs to treat the nurses better. There can be problems with job security if you "make waves" i.e. question decisions made by managment. The hospital owns most of the off medical clinics in town so it's hard to find nursing jobs outside of the hospital.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The employees. They have some of the best people working for them. All the directors are amazing. All upper management truly cares about the employees.  

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
When you get a strange call and you don't know if you're able to give the information even to the patient themselves. Although it was easy enough finding someone to answer the question so not too much stress.  

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
For me, it was like family. Not the dysfunctional kind though. Everybody cares about each other. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
It was the best. I was lucky to work with some amazing people. We all worked very well together. I can't really say how a typical day was because my days were always so different. But they were honestly the best days ever.

unfortunately, they have an RN effectively in charge of administration who is vindictive and unable to respond constructively to criticism. They went to great cost and effort to recruit me, then because I made a complaint about the lack of a functioning flexible cystoscope in the clinic, they said I was not a "good fit" and the nurse administrator said my contract would not be renewed, despite the fact that they eventually went 2 years without a Urolgist in a critically-located hospital. Skylakes needs to be taken over by the state of Oregon, and decisions of physician hiring and firing should be off-limits to the locals unless it involves a crime or fraud.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Everyone there is very friendly. The environment and the working conditions are very accommodating.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The most stressful part about working is sometimes the hours can be long. It gets very busy in the pharmacy sometimes.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment is very conducive to a healthy space. The culture is a very positive one and everyone is very friendly and welcoming.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Sometimes I start early and work into the afternoon and sometimes I work open to close. A typical day consists of ebbs and flows of customers coming into the pharmacy to pick up their prescriptions.

I WAS A SELF STARTER AT 0500 EACH MORNING AN HOUR BEFORE ANYONE THERE,CHECKED SCHEDULE EACH MORNING TO DETERMINE WHAT CASE TO SET UP FOR,I SERVICED EACH MACHINE FOR DOCTORS USE AS WELL AS DRUG CARTS EACH DAY AND ASSISTED THE DOCTORS AS NEEDED.I LEARNED TO DEPENED ON MY OWN SELF TO GET THINGS DONE DUE TO MAN POWER SHORTAGE,THE MANAGEMENT WORKED WELL WITH CO-WORKERS AND ALWAYS TRIED TO FIND NEW WAYS TO IMPROVE MORALE,CO-WORKERS GOT ALONG WELL WITH EACH OTHER AND HAD TO DUE TO THE FAST PACED SETTING IN THE (OR) ,THE LOSS OF A PATIENT AND THE GRIEF OF THEIR LOVED ONES,CASES THAT SEAM TO HAVE NO HOPE WHEN WE START THE CASE AND SAVE THAT LIFE BY THE TIME THE SURGERY IS DONE.

  The Food and Nutrition Department at this facility faces significant challenges due to a number of long-term employees who contribute to a toxic and unproductive work environment. With many years of experience in the service industry, I can confidently say this is one of the most challenging environments I've encountered. The department also suffers from an unusually high turnover rate, even by food service standards. I believe it is important to caution other culinary professionals considering employment here. Additionally, the hospital as a whole has consistently poor ratings, which may reflect broader systemic issues.
