I feel a moral obligation to warn people of a few things about this company.  They have great things like a nice office, they bring food in from time to time, and have a soda machine.  However, there are some MAJOR RED FLAGS that would make it so I would STRONGLY caution anyone from joining this company, and if you do, please have a backup plan like I am creating.

The big thing is a lack of job security.  The company has very seasonal work load, with very seasonal cash flow.  They make all of their money during the summer and then they run out of cash by the end of the year and they are forced to do deep layoffs of their employees.  These are not seasonal employees, they are ones who have trusted their livelihood to the company, and seems to happen every year.

So the company will hire like crazy bringing in salaried professionals who are great employees and look to make a career at the company.  What they don’t tell you is that once the busy season passes each year they will have mass layoffs, and they do it with no warning, and give at most 1 week of severance.  They just keep doing it each year.  These are not bad performers, in fact weirdly they seem to tend to be the best performers.  You look at the employee of the month plaques that lists the past employees of the month, and it seems like most of them have now been laid off.  I am just so tired of seeing all my co-workers treated so poorly.  These are people of all levels of the company, analysts, management, and upper management.  No one is safe.

Essentially, they just use you, abuse you, and then toss you aside, even if you are a top performer.  So, an unfortunate side effect of all of this too is that everyone is extremely guarded with information and don’t work together.  If you can hoard responsibilities and not share knowledge, it gives you a perceived advantage to survive all of their layoffs.  

Also, you don’t want to volunteer to be a part of a special project or new group.  This is the biggest risk group.  They take their high performers, and have them join a special new group to try a new corporate strategy.  These often fail and those that were a part of the group are then left without a job.

If you can somehow make it to 2 years, you will get a cushy job where not much is expected.  It is funny, one guy in management always talks about how busy he is and that he is not able to help.  He says this like we don’t notice him hiding in his corner playing video games on his computer and the limited hours he works.

I guess I am just frustrated that because all of our customers are locked under a 5 year contract the owners feel they can get away with not supporting our customers (because they can’t leave) and the owners instead invest in helping out their buddies within the company.

So, it could work out for you, but be cautious leaving a good job for something where you have a good chance of being let go in 6 months because they just don’t have the money to make their business work.

I worked at AMP Smart for roughly 5 years. When I started, I began as a customer service representative. Quickly, my potential was seen and I was trained in tech support, scheduling, and many other skills as well. At the time, I struggled to see my self-worth, and I was constantly running away from what was supposed to be home. Instead, I set up home at AMP immediately drawn in by the fun coworkers and caring management, who also isn't afraid to push you when they see potential (spoiler alert, they're really good at it). Over time, I felt more and more comfortable here, and I felt welcomed, seen, and trusted. This wasn't something I was very familiar with. I was given many opportunities to learn, grow, and show what I was capable of as I continued during my time here. I was able to work my way into a back office supervisor position, and what at first glance seemed like a boring and complicated clerical job ended up being a lot of fun because I was trusted to bring my own creativity into it. I got to create and run incentive programs, all fit with games I built and prizes for agents. Eventually, I was placed into a training position that I had total freedom with (within reason of course). I got to utilize my degree is psychology to build lessons on cross-cultural communication, effect de-escalation, and even vocal training. I also was able to build additional  lessons to help further train our employees in areas they struggled, knowing I had struggled in the same areas as an agent. I got to write books and built interactive video games on powerpoint, lead deep discussion on communication style, experiences on the phone, use AI for funny class activities, and even film and edit a 3-part action film that taught tech support how to troubleshoot difficult equipment. During my time at AMP, I found safety, trust, confidence, empowerment, a strong voice to speak up, an outlet for creativity, and a whole lot of love, friendship, and laughter. During my time, I faced some horrific challenges in my personal life I never would have expected to face in my life. AMP collectively was there for me, helped me feel supported, listened to, and cared for beyond how I have ever felt before. Overall, it was an amazing, empowering, challenging, and eye-opening experience that has actually provided me the experience needed to get accepted to a top marriage and family therapy master's program. If you want a boring, useless job that you will never grow at, don't apply here. If you want to be challenged to grow, be shown kindness and support (and even pretty ice-cool nickname, have access to snacks, occasional catered meals, holiday celebrations), I hope you apply and get the opportunity to work for a company as sick as AMP. My time at AMP is a part of me I will never forget because, as dramatic as this sounds, actually changed my life, and I could not be more grateful. 

It's very hard nowadays to find a job where you actually feel like part of a team, but AMP, with some hiccups, fufills that promise. All of the management over customer service is friendly, all of them are understanding of faults, situations, and personal life. They do their best to keep everyone tight knit and working at their best. During my time, there was some issues and pressure coming from upper management, which we could sometimes feel regardless of our direct managers efforts to keep us in the loop but shielded, but from what I understand that was resolved after I left. It's not just any one manager that works well with you either, it feels like they went out of their way to make sure that they hire people who work well with others. There is very happily next to no drama. They do rely and grade you based on a statistic based formula, which does raise a fair amount of anxiety and stress, and due to the varied nature of calls that you would handle would not reflect your actual performance at times. And there was some issues on how they handle customer interactions, with input on a service level often not reaching the top, but again this may have been fixed since I left. And due to the nature of the job, it remained a high stress environment.

I worked at AMP Solar for two weeks as an independent contractor in sales and without pay learning the business  and unfortunately, my experience was very disappointing. The management, while young and energetic, seemed to prioritize control over fostering a productive environment. Without prior notice, i was given a strict 30-minute lunch break, and I was unexpectedly terminated for returning 15 minutes late, a decision that felt abrupt and unfair feeling more personal than anything.
With over eight years of sales experience, including five years in door-to-door sales, I’m confident I was well-qualified for the role. After observing the closing process three times and receiving minimal training on the company’s program, I was ready to start closing deals independently and contributing to the team’s success. In my previous sales roles, I’ve thrived in environments that allowed flexibility to find my rhythm and drive results, but AMP Solar’s rigid structure didn’t align with that approach.
It’s unclear why a commission-only employee, who could have been a valuable asset to the company, was let go so quickly. I believe both AMP Solar and I could have benefited from a longer opportunity to collaborate. While the company has potential, I’d caution others to be aware of the management style and lack of clear communication and for whatever reason thinks there are qualified to decide who would and would not be a good fit for the job. 



It was a super fun job when I first started. I LOVED all the people I worked for and with. I loved talking on the phones with customers and everything I got to do. Drama started within the company, and they started firing random QUALITY agents for any reason they could think of. They put on quite the show. They tell the mentors and agents to talk the company up and make it seem fun, until they start treating you like you’re nothing to them. They don’t care about their employees at all. They don’t offer incentives/bonus’/benefits to their employees, they continuously add more work on you so that they don’t have to have multiple departments and more employees to pay. They would over hire for the summer season and then fire people because they had too many. Then they put you through the CRAZY summer season and don’t recognize anything you’re doing for the company—and just add more work on top of that. Then they hire more people and fire whoever at random... some of their BEST agents. I truly hope they realize how downhill they are going from treating their employees this way. Everyone I know is planning on quitting ASAP. Toxic enviornment. Toxic upper management.

When you first get a job here, it's not too bad. But then you see the lack of management and the huge divide between teams.  

Sales teams and most managers are treated better than every other team. They get company sponsored trips to Hawaii and Puerto Rico while the installation team, the ones who worked right beside them and actually installed their accounts, do not get the privilege. Neither do those who work in the corporate office, having to deal with irate customers who were swindled into a 5 year contract with barely any way to get out. 

Management is laughable as you can't always get the answer you're looking for if you get a response at all.  Out of control employees might not get diciplined even if they act out violently (from experience). 

The owners and higher ups seem out of touch with any employee/workplace relationship. 

Pay is decent if they don't mess up on your pay check.


I think to summarize, I would say if you're going to work here, prepare to be unappreciated in your work.  Little if any recognition on accomplishments or goals.

They provide minimum wages for front line call center workers but expect top tier professionalism. Their middle management is stifled with having to run everything through the upper management have never worked in a call center in their lives and don't understand what it's like to be anything but upper middle class/wealthy (they come from money). They toss pennies and expect everyone to be grateful. No PTO offered, no sick days offered and they tell mid-level management to be aggressive and hold everyone to policy (customer and employee) then toss the managers under the bus when complaints are made and make it seem like it's all someone else's fault for the poor work environment they create. They just laid off a bunch of staff and outsourced jobs to the Philippines all the while lying about how no changes were going to be made by this move even when it's completely obvious what was going to happen.

From april- sept I've had to move to other states, company supplied housing, usually in a hotel or an apartment shared by several other technicians or sales reps. Work starts at 12pm, and I was on call till 8 or 9 every night. All jobs were sold and installed same day, some days they scheduled appointments at 10 or 11 at night. 

I've learned the industry through and through, I can install almost every type of standard home security system as well as smart home/automation devices. 


Direct management was fantastic, they've come to be some of my closest friends. Corporate just always fights techs and reps alike on pay.

Culture in the work place was always positive. 

Hardest part of the job is constant travel and getting paid what's owed.

Most enjoyable was meeting the customers, and over delivering on what they were expecting, making sure they were more than happy with everything.

I personally enjoyed being here a majority of the time. They would always love to help you improve at something, but its nearly impossible to ask for help when its summer season. Management was great. One thing I like about them is they do respect to work around your schedule as best as possible. The cons of the job are they will overwork you sometimes. If you are their best agent working on something. They will give you more work to do as like they didnt recognize the last work that you have done, because of this I felt like I was being taken advantage of. If you cant deal with angry customers sometimes, then it will be a drag on your mental health. I would come home everyday thinking I had to make a call to someone I didnt even know in person. If you are a professional at keeping your work like separate from your personal. I would say you would love this job. 

To start they consider you a 1099 contractor while treating you as an employee, obviously so they don’t have to pay taxes. Issues with the commission pay structure, including constant changes and “clawbacks” that sometimes leave people with paychecks close to nothing. 

The entire company is structured somewhat like a MLM with each employee being paid for recruits and even commissions on those sales. Obviously, there’s been sensitive to just get anybody in the door.

It’s fine if you’re looking for another chance in life, but if you are an actual professional sales skills or experience, I would look elsewhere.
