i started this company back in 2018 as a homeless outreach worker. to which i gained experience, especially with talking to people whom are mentally ill and drug/alcohol users. in 2019, i obtained my BA. to which i was compensated a salary increase (small, but it was a %). i also began looking at other jobs within the company to promote and gain further experience. to which i got a new position as a clinician where instead of homeless outreach i did more 1-1 with families and veterans. 

for me in both positions, i had two good supervisors. both of which were not only easy to talk to, but also answered any and all of questions i had which helped me learn and gain further insight. both positions i had weekly meetings with my supervisor.

the most enjoyable part about this company is the fact that your supervisors are there for you and are supportive. they are supportive if you want to change positions or if you want to leave the company. they encourage people. the most enjoyable part of both positions i have experienced is the clientele and getting to know people.

My day usually begins early, because those can be the most valuable hours of the day for me. I have a typical caseload of 75. I generally see 4 or 5 clients per day for individual therapy and case management sessions. I have two on-site supervisors I can count on daily for guidance if needed. I have supportive co-workers who are always available to consult with; putting our heads together often helps solve immediate questions in the moment; this is important in community mental health. A challenging but fun part of this work is documentation; I'm an organized person who keeps a clean desk. My administrative and teaching experience lends itself to this work, in which organization and timeliness is so important. Besides providing resources for linkage and referral, I especially enjoy the face-to-face time with my clients. This is the most enjoyable part of the job, because each day is about each individual; I am there to witness, guide, and strategize with. I believe I make a difference every day that I sit with a client.

I loved the colleagues I worked with and learned from them, management ignored concerns, took things personally, workplace was toxic due to micro management. The hardest part of the job was being unable to help clients because clinician case loads were incredibly high and staying on top of the workload as well as providing quality care was impossible. Yet the agency was continuously enrolling new clients adding more clients to the already over 100 client case loads. High turn over is another hard part of the job because it is more than losing a team member, it is losing a friend, and family member. As if that isn't hard enough remaining clinicians need to take on more roles and more responsibilities to compensate for lack of clinicians.

I start my day with responding to clinical staff emails regarding insurance , Copays, Deductible's and Coinsurance and also update patient's insurance that are sent via email. I answer calls through out the day from patients which can be the most challenging due to all of our patients are mental. It takes patients and understanding so the patients can understand what your telling them. I post money for a few hours and work on denials. I take time out and switch my schedule around to make sure claims are sent out on a regular and consistent basis. I've been in billing for 10years so there aren't any hard parts as far as work is concerned. So the hardest part would have to be dealing with the violent clients which I only have to deal with over the phone. I work with a nice group of people we all help each other out as necessary. I overall enjoy my job.

This position was an internship for my masters in clinical psychology from Seattle University.  I saw several clients regularly throughout my internship, clients with a range of diagnoses.  In addition, I had several supervision meetings a week as well as psych consultation meetings with the general staff.  From these opportunities and more, I learned a great deal.  The management was excellent and supportive of the interns' development as well as the clients' needs.  The fellow interns were also quite excellent, and I learned a great deal from them in my interactions with them and in group supervision.  The most difficult part of the job was engaging with the issues of clients and trying to figure out how best to address their lives for the better; this was also the most enjoyable part of the job.

My typical day starts by going into the office or arriving to the school early before the appointment. It helps me to gather my thoughts and make finishing preparations to see clients. I see clients when they are scheduled and let them out when the time is over or if the client needs to leave earlier. I make necessary phone calls to clients and other systems that are involved with my clients. I attend weekly team meetings where I learn new things and consult about cases. Before the end of the day, I try to document clinicial transactions and notes. The day typically ends with me, prepping for tomorrow. I print out all handouts and get things ready for the sessions. I plan what type of activities or lesson I will be focusing on. All client sensitive information are either put away, put in a folder that is left out, or place upside down.

I was a case manager intern, working 20-30 hrs. per week for my internship program with Argosy University. At the site, I worked with individuals with developmental challenges of various sorts, co-leading or leading groups (Anger Management, Socialization, and Art) as well as providing 1-1 counseling and case management. I also worked with 12 additional clients either weekly or monthly in their homes.

My struggle was leading the groups when there were no other staff available and issues emerged; I have led groups before, but this was a challenge that I felt uncomfortable with. My most enjoyable part was getting to meet and know the clients on an individual as well as group basis.

Sound is a place where great clinicians start their careers then move on, subpar clinicians stay. Thereby the staff is constantly underperforming and inadequately trained. Sound management trends towards incompetent. The majority of managers are upper middle-aged women who have unfulfilling personal lives. Habits of managers typically do not orient them to be good clinical supervisors.

The "Recovery Center", where clients could socialize, hang out, eat, drink, play games, etc., was a wonderful way to get to know our clients and learn about their lives, their struggles and their dreams.

Upper management cares more about their image than clinicians and clients. Recently, a massive amount of money was spent on rebranding, advertising and trainings that was mostly aimed at management. They invested zero in the clinicians or their compensation. Don’t be fooled by the sign on bonus. It is a way to get people in but they are doing nothing substantial to keep them, as evedenced by all the job openings. If you enjoy endless amount of redundant paperwork, stress that never ends, poor pay and delivering dismal mental health care to the people who need it most—Sound is the place for you.
