Techs had 14 patients a piece, which is a lot and too much to handle. Some of the nurses are extremely lazy at times except for a few. This job is good for people who want to become a nurse, I feel like this is a excellent place to start because you get to see a little bit of everything. The hardest part of the job was feeling like you were useless. No one would help the techs, except for the other techs. You would appreciate the nurses who did help, even doing simple things like taking a patient some water or wheeling them out to be discharged made our day less hectic. Some of the nurses would ask us to bring their patient some ice water but would literally go back in the room, like why couldn't you just bring YOUR patient some ice water along with those pills you are giving them? The nutrition room and the med room are 2 steps away from each other. Stuff like that irritated me.. Or the "Are you busy right now?" Well clearly yes, I am I have 14 patients including yours, BUT what do you need?  The stuff that we could do for the nurses they would ask us to do for them. This job came off as degrading.. No one looked out for us, which is why I completely understand why everyone is leaving. The pay doesn't match up to what we have to do, or go through everyday. I have no problem with my manager, she was non-confrontational and easy to talk to, I love how she treats everyone with respect no matter what your position was. The most enjoyable part of the job was going home on your Friday and not coming back until the next week. This hospital is lacking teamwork for sure. When I become a nurse, I would never treat my techs like this, ever. 

You are expected to do a job and care for patients with broken down, lost, non-working, ancient or refurbished hospital equipment that is quite frankly, dangerous and embarrassing. Rooms are dirty. Basic office equipment and computers are often unusable. Hours are long and there is very little teamwork or support within the nursing units. Very clickish culture. Lazy employees who sit all day on their phones or online shopping are tolerated and those who are a clear liability are kept while the few caring hardworking nurses are not encouraged or compensated at all to stay. Pay is very low (like all AL healthcare) in most areas. Benefits aren't great. You never lay eyes on the CEO, whoever he is, or management as they stay tucked away making their huge money, totally clueless as to the sub-par condition of the hospital or the broken down equipment employees have to fight with every day to do their jobs. They don't care. Great appreciative patients are the upside of the job and why most employees keep plugging along in this place. You have to really be strong physically and mentally with a servants heart to stay here, because they will work you to death and the rewards are very very few. 

You would think with the number of older women working here that the drama would be minimal. However, it’s hard to say what's worse: dealing with conflicts involving a 70-year-old colleague or handling management's expectations. They seem to expect you to do all the work simply because they’ve been there longer and are older, which apparently gives them the right to sit back and do nothing.

I was initially very excited to work here and loved my job. I felt important, but my mental health declined rapidly working overnight. Sometimes, they even ask you to work without going home. The environment was toxic, with colleagues talking behind your back just to make someone else’s life as miserable as theirs.

I was close to quitting when they let me go during my 90-day probation period. It was all based on hearsay, and they didn’t even bother to hear my side of the story or check surveillance footage to see what really happened. They have their favorites, and if you’re not one of them, you won’t last long here.

-10/10 would never recommend. I hope those old ladies finally get a life and grow up.

I work here because it is the closest hospital to me. I could drive ANYWHERE else and get paid way more! The pay is laughable, especially when you see how understaffed the place is. Don't bother taking your issues to administration or to anyone else. It's all about money. "PMRs" don't allow for SAFE staffing for the nurses or the patients. Don't try to get overtime either! I'm not just a disgruntled employee either. My ultimate goal as a nurse is to provide safe and effective care for my patients and it's becoming impossible. Most nurses are leaving to go to the hospital 45min up the road for better pay and better, well, everything! Can't wait to see how we staff the new additions when they're complete considering we can't even currently safely staff a 112 bed facility! 

What is the best part of working at the company?
My actual job. The field I am in is very rewarding. The team I work with are amazing.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Every unit is understaffed. Management refuses to leave their offices to help on the floor. They would rather spend 5 hours on the phone trying to get you help rather than JUST HITTING THE FLOOR AND DOING THE JOB. The job they can tell you how to do so well but refuse to do the work!

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Unstaffed stressful management is blinded and wouldn’t see the truth if it slapped them in the face

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A lot of on call shifts. Low pay checks due to being on call all the time.

Our Hospital is full of go-getters.

You really don't know what is going to happen in a day at work. This keeps my job NEW, never the same thing. Alway new people, and new needs to that need to be met.

Being apart of this facility has helped me grow in so many ways it's hard to pinpoint just one thing.

Our management is of a team mind working hard to better care for and meet the needs of co-workers, patients, guest.

My co-workers are the greatest always professional, alway friendly, and aways willing to do what it takes and then some.

The part of my job I don't like is when we have done all that we know and are able to do for a patient and we losses.

I love seeing people we have helped on the street, shopping, at a ball game. Then they tell me what a blessing we were to them in a time of need.

More experience , learned how cruel co-workers can be, learned not to sweat the small stuff

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Pleasing patients, even though you do your best someone who is in pain, on cancer or pain meds or any med they might not like makes them angry and will complain or THINK they see something that is not even there!!!

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Environment was hostile! There was no culture!

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Collecting blood from patients throughout the hospital. Receive that blood in the lab and drop it off in appropriate departments

Do not bother to apply at South Baldwin,  unless you have a  spouse, sibling, lover or parent  working at that hospital!!  Favoritism and nepotism is the norm in all departments!  Upper management is without a doubt; the worst I have ever dealt with in my career!!  I accepted a full-time position in nursing (Crosby/Observation unit).  At the time of my numerous interviews with management, they failed to tell me that this unit was nothing more than a overflow unit for the hospital. I very seldom received my full-time hours during the week and if I did it was because I worked  in another department.
 Trust me, it did not take me very long to catch on to management at this hospital!

A typical workday involved trying to do your job while dealing with being surrounded by the incompetent and condescending. The culture was toxic, and management was a joke. The floor i worked you could be an urology, cardiology, pulmonary, pain management, and hospice RN at any given time, it wasn’t safe at all.  While some coworkers made this place somewhat tolerable, most of the senior staff were prickly, narcissistic, and toxic. Give any criticism and you may as well put a target on your back. If you value your sanity, run.

The best part of the job is your coworkers- that includes the doctors, kitchen staff, lab, transporters, radiology staff, etc. The job culture is 10/10! The managers are nice and try to be accommodating if you are honest and communicate with them. The day to day job is overwhelmingly difficult and exhausting physically, mentally, and emotionally.  I assume all bedside nursing jobs are like this, but I'm not sure, this hospital is the only one I've ever worked at. I stayed as long as I did for the wonderful friendships I made, and the teamwork I developed with my coworkers.
