A typical day at work would be waking up early, starting the day at 6am, finishing around 2:30pm, very fast-paced. I learned a lot about time management and the importance of patient diets and patient necessity. Management is organized, the team leads always know what to say and do.  Most of the time everyone in the kitchen environment gets along, the hostess are always on the run, we help each other get patient orders for breakfast, lunch and dinner meals. Hardest part of the job is trying to collect patient trays after serving the floor and getting their lunch menus. A morning hostess typical day is serving Breakfast and Lunch, once patients finish their breakfast we give them about half hour until we start collecting our assigned floor as well as take their menus for lunch, after lunch we take the dinner menus for the PM hostesses and the breakfast menus for the next day. The most enjoyable part of the job would be coming in and knowing you don’t have too many patients or simply finishing getting patient orders for the day. 

I have worked in multiple locum tenen hospitals. However, this hospital is the MOST fair regarding payment. 

Other hospitals in the area refuse to pay locum physicians for overtime hours and expect them to essentially work for free if they are given higher than usual or more complex cases that exceed their 10- or 12-hour shift. At other hospitals, the administration berates the doctor for documenting one extra hour on their time sheet for patient care, then refuses to pay. However, I NEVER had issues with Southcoast and happily worked with them for several years.

Some days were difficult, with high census—however, I didn't mind knowing that I would be fairly compensated. This is a great hospital to work in as a locum physician. Other hospitals in Southern Massachusetts...not so much.

I may differentiate from others, but since I started at Southcoast a few years ago, I have grown so much in my career. I’m working in positions and doing things I never imagined, and loving it. Thanks to amazing coworkers for opening my doors and pushing me try bigger things, I now love my job. The stress of the workload and harshness from patients who would rather berate us then actually realize what is happening behind all those closed doors may take some serious tolls some days, but I truly work with such a supportive team (doctors, nursing, techs/aids/hucs, transport, EVS, imaging, lab, etc) that is there to pick you up when you fall down. I hope to continue to grow my career in this company. 

Severely underpays for what is expected. Given tasks and responsibilities intended for Supervisors, with a promise of promotion. Never compensated for extra work done, time cards “adjusted” to less than hours worked, and management “not allowed” to give higher then “satisfactory” yearly reviews in order to justify not giving fair raises (capped at 1.5% raise, if any raise at all).  10+ years with company and being paid roughly $0.75 more than new hires in same position (staff hired through temp agency had higher pay rate than long term employees). Required to work through breaks while clocked out.

Coworkers are great. Staff to pt ratios are unsafe. Frequently taking care of ICU level patients within the ER while having 3-4 other patients as well. Do not get help when needed for critically ill patients and may even be pressured to take on additional sick patients. Benefits are expensive though cover a lot if you use their hospitals and system

Having worked in two different RN positions in two different locations/roles within the system, I found it underwhelming. In the hospital, rushed orientation and lack of support. In the community, it felt as though profit was always before patient— tough to stomach when working at a nonprofit. Benefits were good, pay mediocre at best. 

Very busy most days due to the hospital being short staffed. However, teamwork is definitely present and co-workers help eachother as much as possible. If you're looking to work in any form of Healthcare, this is a great place to learn about any specialties you are interested in.

Pay is average. Will not allow overtime. Staff is very nice. Most of the work is done through a "pool" setting meaning everyone goes in and takes care of what is theirs. Downside is you have to pick up the slack of those that do not take care of their stuff in order to make sure everything gets handled.
