So, when I went to interview for this job my manager and director did not even show up and i was interviewed by a charge nurse. I nor any of the other new hires were told about LVN coverage when we were hired and I decided to quit so i wouldn't have to risk my nursing license. Management was not being up front about the workload and that made me question what else they would not be up front about. 



This is what LVN coverage is like: On my first day on the floor I was with my preceptor who was covering two LVNs. He said that it is not uncommon to cover two during your shift. This worries me because technically he is signing his name in the charts of 15 patients. Having 5 patients is already a full workload for an RN and when you're working on this floor you're expected to verify assessments/charting for 15 at times, while also giving all the IV medication for those patients. It's not just a simple task to hang an IV medication. There is needed verification of the last dose and correct indication for those drugs. I have been a nurse for 4 years and I know there are some days that are busier than others and maybe some where you will have time to verify assessments of 15 patients. However, this is not something I can promise every shift I work. It is not worth losing my license if one day I'm not able to check on my LVN patients, something goes wrong, and I am now liable. I was told by my preceptor that some days there are more LVNs than RNs on the floor which he said makes it way more difficult. 



That day I was working there was an LVN with a patient who had an IV med every hour. The nurses were upset about this and said "the charge nurses don't check before making the assignments." This was very discouraging. 

Because of this increased workload on the RNs, I would see nurses scanning medications with the patients stickers so they wouldn't be marked late, only to give them an hour or two hours later. This happened every single shift I worked. Multiple RNs and LVNs have advised me against working on this floor saying "this floor is really bad." 

I spoke with my manager and director about my concerns and I was met with a response like, "you're not putting your license on the line, all you're doing is giving a couple extra meds." When RNs are covering LVNs they have to chart and update the plan of care, chart on the patients acuity, and verify the LVNs assessments. I would feel uncomfortable charting these things when I have not done my own assessment on the patients. With a full patient load I cannot guarantee that every shift I will have time to perform assessments on another 5 LVN patients. It is extremely concerning that the management of this floor does not understand the roles of RNs and LVNs. 

On my final day working, in the morning I received report on 4 patients with my preceptor. I had just finished gathering all the morning medications for each of those patients when we were told we would be floating to another floor.  We then had to give report on these patients to other nurses. One of the nurses we gave report to already had 5 patients. Charge was aware and still gave her a 6th patient. The California medical/surgical nurse to patient ratio LAW is 1:5. 
I asked that nurse "isn't this against the law?" She said, "yes, but we don't have a choice." 

It has become very clear that a vast majority of the nurses working on this floor have come straight from nursing school and simply do not know any better about how much better the working conditions can be in other hospitals, or perhaps other floors.

I expressed that I wanted to work on a different floor and got the approval from HR and the other floor's director but was denied from my manager and director. My director refused to speak with me last week and then didn't meet on the day that she suggested and we agreed on. 

I do not recommend for anyone to work here unless you are chill about the LVN coverage and charting for 10-15 patients and giving their IV medications along with your own full workload. Or possibly work on a floor without LVN coverage.

I'd like to note that this hospital must not receive much funding so there were many things that made the job much harder. for example, not enough working computers (so people have to "save" computers or get there early to write their names on them -no joke-), not enough chairs to sit and chart??, not enough working scanners to scan medication so you have to share. Only two glucometers on the floor. I'm not joking. 


This company has a high turnover in nurses.Partly because They hire a lot of new grads who never stay. Due to the work environment that seemed to get worse overtime instead of better, not many nurses see themselves staying here long term.As soon as a new grad gets the one year of experience needed to qualify for employment at most Hospitals you can expect them to leave. The reputation of this hospital will never improve because the complaints will never stop as long as there are psychiatric patients being treated in the same unit as Medical-Surgical patients, and the food service company stays the same and they not renew their contract with a new company. Patients want and need a calm, comfortable, quiet environment to rest and get the care they need. It's not possible here!!! The rooms have 1 TV to share with 2 patients. The remote only works with one of the call lights so thats who controls it and that's only if the tv works at all!! The call lights dont always work(or get answered)and the phones are often missing. The psychiatric patients yell all day and night long and will often go to the front desk and argue with a nurse shouting profanity loud enough for all the surrounding patients to hear how upset they are. Problem is the patients in the rooms don't know the patients are arguing over something that has no bearing on their recovery(like they asked for 2 sodas and only got one)so only hear someone is not getting something their supposed to. And The nurses will argue back at the desk completely oblivious to the fact that its unprofessional and you would not see that happen at any another hospital. The problem with working on this unit as a nurse is the psychiatric patients demand your attention and find ways to get it regardless that it pays no toll towards their recovery so they take that time away that you should have been given your other patients that are still in the stages they need your extra attention. The other problem with psychiatric patients is they get put on holds so the CNAs get taken away to be sitters. And trust me that's all they do is sit for 12 hours while you're running around trying to take care of your all your patients every need when its not possible to do. So while one patient gets what he needs 10 patients go without getting the attention they need and are sure to complain about it.  The food service is the absolute worst I have ever seen, all the way around!!The patients complain constantly that they do not like their food( i have to agree with them) but it's almost impossible to get something else because they dont make extra hot trays. Also between meals the kitchen has basically nothing so offers a tiny plain sandwich. The patients constantly complain they are hungry and they want a snack but food service is not available and they only stock the floors with a few items a day which are usually gone before 1 shift is over. The floor is always out of utensils and cups and straws and coffee and creamer  because they supply the units with far less than the unit needs to keep the patients from complaining and not waste nurses time looking for applesauce to give medicine or a spoon. They won't even supplies the floor with mayonnaise or mustard for the dry sandwiches they expect the nurse to go down to the kitchen and get a package of mayonnaise every time a patient wants mayonnaise on their sandwich!!! The one good thing about this job was the pay was good.

The hospital in Hollywood is very disorganized and I was  overworked due to the hospital wanting me to do everything. I take a patient vitals , EKG, move them, clean the room, document, arrange transport, verify history and so much more. My lunch wasn’t properly manage, so I would sometime go 8 hours before taking a lunch. The urgent care department is more like an emergency room because of the patients we receive like homeless, addicts, psych, aggressive people, older folks from nursing home that aren't getting proper treatment and more. The turnover rate in our department is very high, from the new hires I was the only one left. The hospital use traveling nurses to help but I only see them for a couple of days then never again.  No one transfer into our department but I see people ask to be transfer out.

There no support from management, their sense of expectation and reality is not the same. They started micro managing my hours after they got brought out so they made sure no one does overtime. If I go over by 1 minute, they'll manually adjust it and then give an education even though I was busy with patients. They promise me a bonus on a letter once I completed the RN program but when I completed the program, they make it difficult for them to honor it and gives runaround until I stopped asking. I put in my notice after I was going to be blame for a doctor mistake and never getting the bonus. But my manager just told me to go home with no exit interview and my patients being past to another nurse. They didn’t care about me here which is why I was the last one from the hires at 8 months. I joined another hospital that is properly managed with taking lunch on time to avoid any mistakes,  high moral in a team and better support with management to make me feel appreciated. 

I was a person who worked alongside nurses,mental workers and security,and patient access. It was a interesting experience learning about psychiatric patients and how they act. I got to see patients with different forms of mental illness,drug abuse,homicidal or suicidal tendencies. I had a pleasure talking with a lot of the patients and hearing their stories and life. Now let's talk about the bad stuff. This place was understaffed at times which can be dangerous,also they kept on having very violent patients keep on coming back to the hospital even though they were supposedly banned,also that self defense stuff that they teach at the hospital is useless when you have patients act out violently and assault staff members. Management did not care one bit about some of the dangerous incidents at this hospital,it's all about the money. Also the workplace culture was a joke most of these nurses,patient access,mental health workers were people who would try to throw decent people under the bus,gossip about everyone else with there high school superiority complex,and look down upon others. I recall a couple of situations were nurses would make fun of patients,even insult some of them and these are people who have social anxiety and depression. No one one here was a team player. You even had a lot of staff members who would have extramarital affairs. If your a nurse,security guard,mental health worker,or patient access worker with good morals and good character,do yourself a favor and stay way from this place, out of all the jobs I have worker this has to be the worst one ever.

When I arrived for my shift as a new nurse I would find out what floor I was working on which was posted at the first floor at this time. From there I would clock in, get settled and obtain my patient load and report from the day shift nurse. We would do a thorough walk thru of the floor and the patients I would take over. This was extremely important because if you felt uncomfortable for any reason you can inform the charge nurse who would then make arrangements for another nurse to cover the patient. The patient load ranged from ill to extremely ill and you would learn a lot, there wasn’t  ever a dull moment. I learned the most from this hospital. Management was supportive and believed in educating their nurses to equip them with the knowledge and skills they needed to do their job effectively.. You had opportunity to work on ICU, Med Surg, Psych floor, urgent care, etc. Whenever I needed assistance someone was always there to support me! There was opportunity for overtime and work life balance. There was security on site with safety being a priority for staff and the community we served. There was great food in the cafeteria and a lot of pot lucks and festive activities with staff!

It is easy to get a job here. However, there are caveats. The hospital itself is filthy accompanying the general feeling of remorse from it's employees. They obviously do not want to be there and it is abundantly clear by their work. I witnessed blood on the ground in patient rooms and chicken bones (from someone's lunch) scattered around the entrance of the hospital ajar from a trash can. 

A terrible location with no staff parking. Street parking is limited as the neighborhoods are apartments which are already impacted not to mention the days where street cleaning prohibits certain streets for parking. 

Employees must park in the neighborhoods, oftentimes resulting in a 20 minute walk to work.  During those dreaded walks to work, I encountered several transients screaming at me, following me, etc. Often times transients would beg for money (directly outside of the hospital). 

Working in a clerical position. I interacted with other nursing units where some nurses would literally (I use this word in the correct way) curse at me and even at the patients (as I could hear them in the background).

Many review this place saying it is a good place to start if you are a new grad, but I would have to disagree. Stay away at all costs. You are better off holding out for a better hospital.

I started working at SCH Hollywood on February 3 2025 as an Executive Assistant. However, within my second week, I was told that the Vice President no longer needed me in that role. I was then moved to an Administrative Assistant position because the Associate Administrator needed one after the previous employee was not hired for the role.

Throughout my time there, I received no proper training. When I asked for guidance, I was simply told to “figure it out” because, according to the Associate Administrator, positions like this don’t come with structured training. The work environment was extremely unprofessional, with higher-ups constantly treating employees poorly and gossiping about them over trivial matters. There was a complete lack of support, respect, and professionalism from leadership, making it a toxic and stressful place to work.

If you are looking for a workplace that values employees, provides proper training, and fosters a professional environment, I would not recommend working here. The lack of structure, leadership, and basic professionalism makes it a difficult and unpleasant workplace.


Hospital is older and badly needs updating. Shared worn out rooms where faucets leak and outlets done work. LVNs doing primary care on the hospital floors which would be fine except they assign RNs who have their own patients to cosign their assessments hang their ivs and do their admissions despite the fact that we are at ratio with out own patients. Computers or scanners often don't work and charting has unnecessary pop up and extras i have never encountered elsewhere. A lot of little frustrations. 

Despite this administration and mgmt are kind and reasonable. Staffing is personable and helpful. House supervisors are competent and friendly. Experiences getting a hold of doctors and getting orders is sometimes difficult. Patient population- a lot of homeless and psych patients on medical floors. A lot of floating to other units esp if you're a traveler. 

Still ive grown to like this place and about 99% of the nurses work hard and really care about the patients. Only met one mean nurse the whole time ive worked there some of the CNAs are lazy some are awesome. There doesn't seem to be a middle ground there lol

What is the best part of working at the company?
I was able to work days and did not have to work nights.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Management, they care about their metrics but will not provide real resources to accomplish those task. For example they want all EKGs to be done in the first 15 mins,but they don't provide enough staff to be able to accomplish this. So it falls on the primary nurse, so I would see nurses marking that it was complete in the first 15 mins even if it was done an hour later.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The environment feels heavily focused on internal policing rather than growth. There is alot anxiety regarding peer-to-peer reporting, which unfortunately creates a culture of mistrust.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A day at the urgent care you were exposed to a lot of psych patients and with inproper security. The security are really just their to witness incidents not there to protect the staff.

I work at the Hollywood location....     opinion from a nurse with 4 years of experience in Med Surg/ICU 

Pros:
-My co workers are amazing!  I love my tight knit group. They have my back and I have theirs. 
-Most of the other nurses are friendly and helpful. 
-a good stepping stone for inexperienced nurses 
-more a chill job for experienced nurses,  this is a piece of cake compare to big hospitals not as physically hard on your body. 

Cons:
-low pay
-quotas and timed metrics to deliver patient care: NOT COOL!!  I had to discharge a patient back to their facility with their diapers full of feces/urine because we need to make room for more patients. my CN said, "dont worry about it, we have too many patients coming in. The patient has been there too long,  Let the facility change their diaper" 

- needs new equipment,  some of the machines we use are from  90s. outdated
-while my experience with my co workers have been positive, it varies with every person.  Some people say their unit can be toxic. 
-this is hospital for nursing home patients!  all the patients are from SNFs.
