The pay is what really attracts everyone! There is such a high turnover over rate ! And it’s MOST definitely because of the favoritism!  Too many family and friends working together ! The work it’s self is fun and keeps you busy! It’s the people mostly management and 1st cooks make your life rough there if they have friends or family in their building ! They let them choose what they are doing for the day and the people who aren’t in the loops get the  jobs for the day that nobody wants to do ! Very unfair environment! Also they take advantage of your mental health disabilities and use them against you! You are not safe talking to anyone at this place ! They will keep you held back if you aren’t friends or family and they promote them and only them! Doesn’t matter how helpful you are or how good you do your job! Could be a great company if they got some people in there to fix these issues! Make people wanna stay! Stop letting these first cooks choose the fate of good workers!! They don’t even watch the cooks work they sit on their butt  all day and play on their phones and steal from the company! STAY AWAY IF YOU DEAL WITH ANY MENTAL HEALTH!  Mine declined so fast and as soon as I left I was happier than I could ever be ! HUGE weight off my shoulders!!!

Everyone was on edge because of management. I have seen multiple people get fired on the spot for NO reason and made my fellow co-workers cry because they lost their job without any warnings. The only reason why I stayed for a while was because of my awesome co-workers. But most of the time we were not allowed to even talk to each other in the kitchen. Lots and LOTS of unnecessary drama from the managers. You are a number here. Management will pull you aside and insult you when no one else is around. You are not allowed a day off, and they expect you to work 60 hour weeks during the UCF football season. They are understaffed because of the employee turnover. Management would never man up to their mistakes and always blames their employees. You are not allowed to have a life while at this job. This job is NOT GOOD FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE GOING TO COLLEGE. They don't care about your education or anything in your life. They only care about money.

The operation I worked at for Southern was enjoyable, but working for the company itself was not as enjoyable. There isn't a whole lot of support from those at the corporate office, especially when you have questions or request information, many of them make you feel like a burden. There was no support from the company during the Covid-19 pandemic. I think that showed some true colors of who Southern is as an employer. The company as a whole seemed unorganized a lot of the time. If you are looking for a place to make a paycheck, this is an adequate company to work for, but if you are looking to work for a company that truly invests in their employees and cares about them, I would suggest looking elsewhere.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The pay was good and the hours were not bad

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The hiring of people less than competent at their position to the point I felt more like a babysitter for a bunch of 30 and 40 year old people

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment is stressful and the company is learning about the prison environment which made it difficult to get things done. Overall, the company being privately owned makes it full of politics that make it tough to get along and get ahead

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I always wondered who would and wouldn't show up to work, who would have to leave, how I was going to get my work done between refereeing employee disputes and conflicts and manage my day with less help than other shifts but we always produced a quality product and had it ready in advance so we could serve the inmate population

This position is responsible for overseeing day to day operations for a corporate dining account, as well as, managing and a team of associates, managers and chefs. Responsible for managing client relations, along with ensuring that the food offered to the customers is of superior quality. Additional responsibilities include:

Oversee all P&L and budgeting as it pertains to the account.

Maintain excellent relationships with customers, guests and Client as well as other departments.

Work with the Chef and management team in creating menus and providing top quality food.

Roll out new culinary programs in conjunction with Southern Foodservice Management marketing and culinary team.
Working with catering manager and team to ensure each client’s overall satisfaction of every event including writing custom menus that are in line with the latest trends.

I have worked for this company since 2017. I was immediately impressed with the teamwork and energy from the corporate management. I was also blown away by how many managers and employees I met who had been with the company some 10, 20 and longer years. That alone says a lot about a workplace. There is always going to be challenges in this industry but overall this is an extremely positive company to work for. From Happy Birthday emails from the Vice President of the Company and yearly anniversary emails from the owner congratulating me on my success here at Southern, I really haven't ever worked for a company that tries to treat their employees so well. The pay is very competitive and I have not missed a yearly increase yet. Thank you for giving me a chance, Southern. You are appreciated.

Our so-called benefits really only benefit high ups. Mandatory health insurance is expensive and utterly useless. This is the only place I have ever worked where our wages go down. Had 3 pay decreases since working there. Project manager is verbally abusive, to the point of telling employees they are replaceable and if we aren't happy with being overworked and underpaid we need to leave. Cronically understaffed. Never provided with the necessary supplies to complete our duties. There is a clear divide between the favored and unfavored employees. Management will do whatever it takes to save a buck at the expense of their workers and aren't hiding that fact. Worse job ive ever had!

Strong, powerful, accepting,as well as sometimes overworked when short staffed

Manual labor, worth the pay and effort to get the job done, as long as your team is doing the best they can with the staff on hand to get the job done, the day will be a success no matter the situation or lack of staff, we pull together to ensure a successful clean and sanitized meal for the diner's as well as the staff utilizing the building.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Leaning how to use the equipment in my designated area for the day. Also, serving the military soldiers. Being able to fix their meals yo show appreciation to their hard work and dedication to serve and protect our country.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Some of the co-workers were being very difficult to work with. Everybody wanted to be your boss and it was very misleading.

The work environment was fun at times and enjoyable, but very stressful at times.

Very busy and on demand to make sure everything is prepared for lunch and dinner.
