I worked / Interned at the 1280 Main Street location and felt very welcomed by most employees who were eager to teach the students.  On my very first day, I was given an individual to work with who was dealing with many problems.  At first, I was thinking "OH NO!", but I was able to jump right in and handle everything dropped on me and was able to help and it left me with a great feeling of accomplishment.   I found it to be a very positive experience.  Even the individuals server were very welcoming and friendly for the most part.  If given the opportunity to go back and work here I would.  I would also urge other students/interns to take the learning opportunity if they are offered it.  It was difficult to create a good bond with an individual and see them doing so well to find out that they had a major relapse, but seeing them come back to treatment as well as seeing them and others graduate the program made it all worth it.  I personally am from a small town so going to Buffalo was a major eye opening experience.

This would be a wonderful agency to work for if it weren't for their misconceptions in the hiring and promoting process. I worked for a child who was promoted to office manaager. She had absolutely no idea about adjustment situations for the clients or staff. Her immaturity and lack of understanding of the many situations in life severely compromized the environment.

To top it all off, they then hired a manager over her who didn't have the ability to be a manager. There was no communication or care from this individual at all.

For being a mental health clinic, I give them thumbs down. They should have understood that I came back to work because I thought I was needed never thinking I would be reprimanded for not noticing a client come in and sit in the corner where I could not see him. Power, not empathy, went to this little girl's head.

I would not recommend this company. They are cheap and irresponsible in their hiring process.

The people you work with are friendly, however management is a different story. The managers micromanage to the point you are suffocated. You cannot do anything right. And if you’re asking questions/seeking help from your supervisor, forget it. It’s not worth the energy to try. They will belittle you and make you sound stupid for asking for help. There is no want to help the clients, spectrum is all about taking money. They will purposely tell their staff the can provide the clients needs, knowing they are not certified for that case just to have them pay for an appointment to refer elsewhere. Helping the clients is the last thing on spectrums mind. Do not work here. It is toxic with no morals of helping people.

This is a company that thrives on trickle down back stabbing and corruption from the top down. There is a culture of kill or be killed and "tattle tale" behavior is not only encouraged but expected. The clients are NOT the priority-- and while they are supposedly a non-profit organization, making money is CLEARLY Spectrum's priority. Clients needs are secondary to squeezing every possible dime out of their insurance companies, and too bad for you if you're not on Medicaid cuz it's gonna hurt! Any employee that DARE to advocate for Spectrum's clients is rapidly and thoroughly reprimanded. Do NOT work here if you actually care about people or have a desire to think for yourself or try to make a difference for the better. Intelligence and ideas are not welcome. Otherwise great pay and benefits.

-Zero job security.
-No raises or you'll be told at hire when you'll receive a raise or raises but you'll never get one.
-You will be paid the same salary as your co-worker who just started with the company.
- I watched so many clinicians encounter extreme burn out.
-Caseload of 100-130 clients at ALL times.
-Unethical.
-Documentation is "required" to be submitted within 24hrs. yet no staff is capable of doing this.
-Management has no care for the clients, just numbers and seeing as many as you can! If you want to make your supervisor happy see as many clients as you can and dont go a minute over in session(s). 
-Gossip is absolutely terrible, can't trust any one. 

A typical day at Spectrum Housing is locating housing for new clients and helping clients maintain housing.
I have not learned anything worth mentioning at this place.
Management is toxic, encourages immature behavior amongst  the workers. They participate in belittling of other employees. Not one person on the management team trust one another and attempt to take jabs at one another daily.
The most enjoyable part of the job is the clients seeing the joy they have with their new apartment.
The hardest part of the job is management constantly trying to set you up for failure.
The workplace culture is toxic and not understanding of other cultures or beliefs.  They have no respect for the people they serve in the community.

Spectrum is an agency that values money over all else. Management sets goals that are unobtainable in the work week causing forced overtime, write ups and burn out. Spectrum asks unethical practices of their clinicians and has MANY employees in positions they are NOT qualified for by finding loop holes to prevent people from reporting these behaviors. Clinical staff is under supported with little to no useful training. Favoritism runs deep, again placing people in positions they should not be in. All of this sadly leads to poor client care, resulting in high client turnover with few success cases. Overall, I caution you accepting any position with this agency. If you do, proceed with caution. 

Coworkers? Great. Work/life balance? Decent. Opportunities for advancement? Awful. Management? Terrible. 

This company will drain extra work out of you all the time and will refuse to compensate you fairly for it or give you opportunities for advancement. There are even times when you will have to train someone who is in a higher position than you. They will work you to the bone and become upset at the smallest things. They continuously complain that they do not have enough staff to meet client demand, but they do not respect their employees at all. They hire from the outside way too much and do not give their employees opportunities to advance within the company. 
Stay away. Stay very far away.

Keep in mind that the clients being served here are behavioral health and chemical dependency clients, so a lot of them are not there on their own accord but because they have to be. That being said, the clients that come in at times can be very unpleasant.
The co-workers there are great.  Everyone seems to have a sincere desire to help and make a difference, but the management is lacking.  They throw you in before you are really ready and it feels like a numbers game there.  Clinic and office staff are all very stressed.  It is not a company you go to if you are looking to advance because there really is no growth opportunity.  What you are hired to do is pretty much what you will always do.
