From the outside and inside, SRMC attempts to portray their "Spotsy" attitude, which they will claim is exemplar to other facilities; however, don't judge a book by its cover. What a joke! Their census fluctuates so much- the hours aren't there, and getting cancelled in a career that's suppose to offer such stability...disappointing! The morale is just as bad as most other places because, as usual, the nurses are overworked and understaffed-yet, expected to take care of their "customers"--because that's what patients are nowadays! How can you be a nurse to someone and provide excellent care if you are constantly worried about stepping on someone's toes. It's not the Hylton people....and so our job is to help you get well-not increase the likelihood you will decide to extend your stay! Management is horrific and they are so busy trying to win other hospitals' patients over, they miss the whole idea of fantastic healthcare! Not to mention, many of the units haven't been designated with a speciality, so instead you have a pediatric/oncology/med-surg/etc floor...because that makes a lot of sense, right!? The upside, they are newer and just want patients who can afford to pay, so their equipment functions for the moment. Other than that, they won't last and be in the class of other disgraceful hospitals before too long! Don't go the extra mile down the highway for care, you are far better off at another facility! Bottom line....get over yourselves SRMC!!!!!

When I first started in Case Management on the BHU, I was excited.  My co-workers were great.  My direct manager was great.  People were passionate and wanting to help a population of folks underserved in this region.  I had an LPC supervisor whom HCA would reimburse for me to finish out my license.  Then, team members started to quit for better opportunities.  The manager left.  HCA wouldn’t pay my supervisor and she finally gave up and left.  HCA put me a year behind getting my license because of their shenanigans.  They lost good group therapists because they refused to pay a few dollars more an hour, an amount that still didn’t even match the average salary in the area.  I left to go to another local hospital and immediately got paid $10 more an hour. My manager wanted someone to network in the community, something I believe in as a case manger, and I did on my own time so I could better serve our patients.  HCA could care less about how hard you work to serve their patients.  All they care about is how much money the administration can make for themselves.

The staff nurses are great!

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Poor management-changed my schedule without my knowing and then held
me to a very challenging schedule. Manager verbalized she has the ability to schedule nurse up to 6-12 hour shifts in a row. No work-life balance due to this. Manager is unsupportive of RNs in a BSN program and stated her department comes first. Inflexible and authoritarian, not a good work environment. Management does not have your best interests at heart. Very poor staff retention, which does not surprise me. If I had to do it again, I would forgo this hospital. HCA HR does not assist with concerns to do with management. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
culture is good, management leaves much to be desired. The days  are gone
where you can belittle nurses and disregard all reason surrounding dealings with RNs, nurses have many options for other employment if they find themselves under poor management. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
very busy, patient nurse ratio is 1 to 10 if nurses call out sick

While there are many nice people, there is no leadership or communication. There is a lack of cohesive organization in this department that makes every shift feel like a dangerous chaotic mess. You will be expected to work all benches alone, sometimes without so much as a Lab Aide. With no inventory protocol, in addition to working all the benches,  you will spend a good deal of time calling sister hospitals hunting for reagents/cartridges for basic chemistry to be finished.  If you complain or make suggestions you will be sorry. A large portion of the staff are new to the clinical laboratory and not yet certified- but are left alone with no qualified supervision. There is no training program or adequate training because there aren't enough certified Technologists left to train all the new employees. While there is talk of improving the culture in the lab, there is little effort to do anything but get warm bodies to keep it running.

Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center is an incredible place to work!  The team at Spotsy is really what makes it so special - when you walk in the door, you can feel the sense of warmth and the shared passion of all employees of caring for their patients.  As a department, the pharmacy team is a group of caring, hard-working and talented people who work very closely with the other healthcare professionals in a collaborative environment.   

Administration is friendly, open, and always willing to hear new ideas.  As a Spotsylvania employee, I feel valued by the organization and I am excited to go to work every day!

Hands down the most unethical and toxic company I have ever worked for. It is like a nightmarish reliving of high school with elite cliques (*cough cough* members of the administrative team), scarily overworked staff, brownnosers, class pets and about the same wages that high school students receive. Despite their name Human Resources is neither human nor resourceful and will remind you of the impotent guidance counselors who always wanted to befriend you but were useless for development or growth. The focus here is on profits not patients, so you wind up disappointing everyone as you rush from person to person.
Should you ignore these warnings and apply anyway, watch your rear end (there's a harrassment problem and the company acceptance of this behavior is straight out of the 1960s) and be sure to program the ethics line phone number into your phone. You're going to need it.

Former psychiatric social worker/clinician at Spotsy. Loved my boss, coworkers, patients and the management at this hospital - the care was great. The facility is beautiful and there is very much a team approach to healthcare here. However, they have no opportunities for training or licensure supervision for my discipline, and after nearly three years of hard work for them, the corporation made some changes and booted me out the door because I'm not licensed. No warning, and they gave me no opportunity to get a license. HCA doesn't care about its employees one bit and this was just one instance I experienced in my time there. They're out to make money - period. Spotsy, however, has good people. So I managed not to leave too bitter after being kicked out on my behind. And I did manage to find another job. Bottom line: HCA as a company sucks. Watch out.

I recently left my full time position at another hospital and am working part time prn at Spotsy. I am hoping someday when there is a full time position available I will be able to fill it because I LOVE THIS PLACE! The culture is great, and all the staff genuinely cares and strives to be the best for our patients. When you need something it is provided. Management is truly exceptional from the CEO right down to the Manager of my department and the care should be considered gold standard. I am so looking forward to watching this place grow. We already have growing pains because you can tell patients in our community realize what a gem of a hospital this is. It is exciting to see. It is very telling when someone would give up security to focus on a job that does not have benefits yet. I am looking forward to growing and learning, and giving the best care possible to my patients :)

If you are a pediatric nurse this is NOT the place for you to work. The peds census is very low. They may get peds admissions 3-4 times a month. I guess parents choose to take their kids elsewhere and I don't blame them. When there are no kids staff is supposed to float within the womens and childrens unit, but instead you are made to float to the adult floors to do all the things that those nurses don't want  to do. Those nurses are indeed are indeed busy. One nurse will have 11 pts at one time. How is that safe? So when you get floated there you are giving meds that are 2-3 hours late. Management and the CNO completely SUCK at what they do. They do not care.

Patient to nurse and tech ratio is horrible. Nurses and PCTs are worked non-stop. They do not care for mental health of employees by making them take more than anyone should be able to handle. Employees are over worked and underpaid. Management does not care about being short staffed, they have done nothing to help or prevent it. They treat employees like they are expendable and they are not. They also fail to test patients correctly so staff is exposed to Covid, flu and other ailments because of poor care and precaution preventives.
