What is the best part of working at the company?
Team work and communication. There is a good communication level between workmates, supervisors and directors, also everyone in this organization gets all the necessary training to achieve a common goal, which is the safety and support of each individual as a client and as a person.


What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Funding. This is a non-profit organization and some times things can be improved but due to limited funding things have to stay the way they are until the necessary funds are obtained or donated.  This affects both clients and staff.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment is great, there is a lot of willingness to help each other among staff members. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Get to work, greet everyone, get ready for the daily routine. The most important goal every  day is to cover all the daily routines established by the company and to see all the clients happy. At the end of the day fill up all the required reports.

the environment is not supportive and one hand doesn't know what the other is doing in my opinion. No one can answer questions and the corporate office is very unresponsive regarding variety of issues such as payroll, budgets, growth, etc. It is a place that you can learn quickly the things you can and cannot do. The managers do not have authority as other companies allow. The direct support staff truly love their job. They work very hard and are a great team. The staff appreciated being able to grow when they could and become better staff. The direct support staff made it rewarding. Without these folks, managers would not last. The pay is horrible. Raises are not on the horizon due to their budget. 

You get the training certificates you need. If you're looking for a place to put on your resume and a starting point, this could be for you.

A typical work day for me is coming in about 15 minuets before my three o'clock shift. I assist my clients from her Day Program and prepare a nice healthy snack for them. While my clients eat their snack, I put away their shoes, coat and backpack from school. Throughout the day I reposition the clients if need be, to make sure they're comfortable as possible. Around four o'clock is when I start to prepare dinner of the clients choice. While dinner is cooking I assist the clients with taking a bath and changing into night clothes. During the day we usually relax by watching television, if its the weekend we take trips to the mall or amusement parks. My clients receive their daily medication then go to bed around eight.  My shift ends at ten so in between that time I would clean up, make sure all my daily documents are complete and check up on the clients.

It is a satisfying job that gives me joy helping those in need. My clients are like an extended family to me. I help them get dressed, go to bed, make them breakfast, give them their medication, and clean their homes. I have learned how to be more humble and patient when dealing with others. Management is sufficient. Good pay, mostly professional environment, and nice advisors. The coworkers are mediocre.They vary from professional to not caring. The hardest part of my job is working for myself and others. There are times when I have to do my coworker's part because they are avoiding it. The most enjoyable part of my job is the clients. They are so unique and full of charisma. They amaze me everyday with the things they do and say.

It's been all fan and homely.
Even family members of clients were very very friendly and supportive. They were very cooperative and understanding. 
When family members of clients shows maturity and a sense of belonging towards staffs, it creates enthusiasm and good atmosphere at the workplace. 
During my time with St. John's, it was a place we called our second home. Though we were four mixed race staffs in my house,  we saw ourselves like a family, doing everything as a team. This made the clients so happy.  

The day to day work with the individuals is explained really well. the office staff make you figure out the activities on your own with no suggestions or guidance. When you voice a concern on any topic especially the health of the individuals you are ignored. The only thing staff working in an office sees is dollar signs, they do not see the people they are serving. SJCS has a toxic work culture. Once you complete your training you are done. You never receive any reviews or feedback on your performance. The hardest part of working for SJCS is the mental fatigue DSP's live with daily. The best part was working with the individuals everyday.

This not for profit advocates for employment equality for people with disabilities, but it treats its own staff deplorable. Wages are extremely low, no raises in over 3 years and the work climate is unstable.

You must account for every 15 minutes that you work by calculating what is know as billable units. You must accrue a specific amount of billable units daily or be reprimanded. This office can be extremely unorganized and malicious retaliations may be enacted by supervisors on specialists. No lunch breaks- no union, encourages deceitful practices.

Some very petty workers with big egos and possible mental illness issues themselves.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Helping the clients with activities.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Not enough staff coverage and then there are lazy administrative staff that pick and choose where they will or will not work and voluntarily sign their name up to work a home and then conveniently change their mind at the last minute.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Not good or professional to work at.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day is stress walking through the door and stress walking out of the door.

I learned that no matter how good of a person you are.,my consistency,  work ethic and acceptance of accountability to complete my job, daily detailed notes, certification and continued education was for nothing. Then minute I applied,  my Rtl Mgr began targeting me after 10 yrs. I reported to upper management and was betrayed.  I felt the integrity in this environment was not there, and merely only about who you know. Instead of what us right or wrong.  

Working at SJCS allows an individual to gain insight of how a healthcare facility operates, from the types of clients to the collaborative effort required from each team member. A typical day at work will teach you patience and improve your observational and documentation skills. As most jobs has its pros and cons, this is no different. One of the hardest part of the job is understanding that not everyday is the same for the client; some days are easier than others. However, the pros outweigh the cons, with one of it being the difference the support given to the client makes in their lives.
